I’m in the same situation. The problem is that Minecraft Launcher for Mac is an Intel build, and macOS is dropping support for Rosetta which allows Intel apps to run on Apple Silicon.
I’ve filed the following bug with more information, but essentially, Mojang needs to build either a Universal or Apple Silicon version of the Minecraft Launcher for Mac to continue supporting Mac users.
The problem with the Minecraft Launcher on macOS is that the launcher is an Intel build that’s running in Rosetta on macOS. macOS will lose Rosetta support (and the ability to run Intel app builds) in a coming release; you can learn more about it here: https://support.apple.com/en-us/102527?cid=mc-ols-rosetta-article_102527-macos_finder-52526201
Mojang — Please rebuild the macOS launcher with build targets for Apple silicon or Universal. If you need assistance with getting there, reach out to Apple Developer Technical Support (DTS), or someone in Apple Evangelism.
C’mon, Mojang. Build a version of the Minecraft app/launcher that’s built for Apple silicon.
Part of the reason why Minecraft Launcher is crashing on macOS is because it’s an Intel app build. If you open the Finder and select Minecraft.app, press Command-I to open the Info window for the app (see attached screenshot).
In the General section, you’ll see Kind: Application (Intel).
Mojang needs to create a non-Intel launcher for macOS that’s build for Apple silicon. Right now, the launcher is opening thanks to Rosetta, but Rosetta’s going away, so there will come a day when the launcher won’t open on macOS.
Thank you for confirming this issue.
Case in point. I don’t think Mojang’s engineering team quite understands what they need to do to build a forward-compatible version of Minecraft Launcher for macOS.
