Just wanting to check: Are both of you connected to the same WiFi network?
If you're trying to play in a LAN session, you both need to be on the same WiFi network for it to work.
No, cellular data (3G, 4G, LTE, etc.) will not suffice.
Hopefully it's just that you're on different WiFi networks and it's a simple fix 🙂
Here, have a crash report:
[media]Just took a video of the amount of lag that is occurring. Note the system time in the bottom left keeps ticking and the cursor stops blinking between updates to the text field.

@violine1101 It was in the Environment field, but to make it easier, I moved it to the description
Btw, the version might seem to be out of date, but it is the latest version from mc-staging
(verified via package installer)
Since the bot keeps changing the version to one that is invalid for this issue, please refer to the note in the description.
Just letting you know, this isn't an issue with the Minecraft Launcher, it's an issue with the game itself.
You're most likely running 1.12-pre1 and accessing the crafting grid (and trying to craft) before accessing the crafting book. If you are running that version: possible dupe of MC-117211
Are you opening the crafting grid before accessing the crafting book? If so, possible dupe of MC-117211
New knew there was actually a watchdog in vanilla. TIL
Getting the same error on Vanilla 1.8.3 (not generating crash report since it doesn't fully crash).
OS: Ubuntu 14.10 (Linux 3.16.0-34-generic) AMD64
GFX Card: AMD Radeon R7-260X
RAM: 8GB DDR3
Processor: AMD FX-8150
Java: 1.8.0_40-internal
Render Disatance: 16
I've been playing since Alpha (Before the Nether) and this is the FIRST time that I'm unable to play the release version of the game without having any major problems. Being an owner and developer for a network doesn't make things any better.
I am a server owner running 1.7.7 and keep getting kicked from my server...
I have the same issue...
It says that it is modded, it is only Optifine_HU_U_C8...
Here is my crash report:

"Linux streaming is currently unsupported as the appropriate Java libraries have not been released by Twitch.tv at this time."
Well, There's my problem... X-P
Thank You
Having Same Issue, but getting "Reason: Unknown error" instead of null.
Confirmed, whoever is messing with the graphics code has royally messed something up with the linux support for LWJGL (OpenGL 1.1)
This Happens to me too every so often on my other systems that have less power than the one I'm on right now.

USB/Jailbroken iPod
This was submitted from my iPod, I did also mention that in the description.
(My PC/Laptop has no physical way of connecting to the Internet nor does it have the drivers for WiFi)
I did mention I have NO INTERNET, didn't I?
I have one question: How are you playing Java Edition on an Xbox?
If you're playing Minecraft on an Xbox, then you're playing the Bedrock edition, not Java.
The correct area to report bugs for Bedrock is https://bugs.mojang.com/projects/MCPE/summary
If you are indeed playing Java Edition, then you're on either Windows, Linux, or macOS, not an Xbox.
