This ticket describes 2 issues that happen exclusively on macOS:
1. Upon loading into a world for the first time in a given session, the game sometimes fails to capture the cursor, meaning it flies around the screen as the player looks around.
Workaround
Cmd-tab out and back in so that the window is properly focused.
2. Some users have reported that after launching the game, their first click does nothing. I personally can't reproduce this but it does still seem to be an issue in recent releases.

This bug existed since the 1.13 snapshots
Experiencing double-click behavior when in fullscreen in 1.14.0
macOS High Sierra 10.13.6
iMac 2010 (iMac10,3)
2.93 GHz i7
8GB RAM
Java 8 Update 191
Update: Seems to have resolved itself?
still is in the 1.14 update and it happens when I join the world any world online or online
Noticed this double click issue with the current version 1.14, confirmed Launcher and my Mac Mini OS is up to date, restarted my computer, tried switching back and forth between full screen and windowed, but the issue having to double click for any left-click action persists and makes the game almost unplayable.
Created an account to share my experience with this. With 1.14.4 , on a Macbook Pro 13" Late 2013 running newest MacOS as of last week - it has the same issue. You can temporarily solve this until you restart the game by CMD+Tabbing out and in to the game once or twice. This has atleast worked for us.
Solution:
When starting Minecraft, keep your launcher as your "first priority", as in have the launcher your main window open. Once Minecraft is on the actual home screen with the multi- and single player options visible completely, you can click on Minecraft.
This is still an issue in 19w40a.
Still a thing in 1.14.4 - I need multiple restarts of the whole environment (lauchner etc) to get it working with just one click. Eventually (1-5 restarts) it works. Issue occurs with or without Optifine installed
iMac (late 2013 27") on Mojave 10.14.6 (18G1012)
Can confirm. This happens literally all the time with me on my Macbook.
It's most likely caused by opening another window within the time the game is loading.
+1 on this, running the game a new MacBook Pro, macOS Catalina 10.15.2 (2.3Ghz 8-core i9), new install of Minecraft (1.15.2) experiences same issues as above. I however cannot get the application to ever load without these mouse glitches.
Just to confirm, all operations in the menu system (config screens) and the game (bashing blocks) once the client is launched require at minimum 2 clicks. Severely jarring for users of all ages 🙂
No other window is opening, system is quiet, even stopped all my local dbs and docker as I did wonder ...
Installed on a Macbook Pro 10.14.6
Mouse glitches over the MC window and everything needs to be clicked 2-3 times to activate. Draggin items is worse and the cursor experience some kind of parallax effect.
I tried turning on and off Touchscreen mode in Options, no improvement.
Scaling the GUI to 1:1 helped to reduce parallax cursor.
Turning on fullscreen fixed the cursor moving problem completely - while the clicks not beeing properly captured by the application persists.
How is it a major problem not solved within 10 months, game not playable like this.
Update:
I can confirm also the solution by Ryan Z worked, even if it sounds too simple. Start MC through the launcher and don't touch the mouse until MC is fully ready in the menu.
Can anyone confirm for latest snapshot? (20w07a)
I get this occasionally with 20w07a
@unknown-
I can confirm that this is reproducible with both 20w07a and 20w08a as well. Tested on 2 machines: Late 2018 Mac mini with a non-retina display on macOS GA + Dev and 2019 16-inch MacBook Pro.
This behavior also occurs if the game client is set to start in fullscreen, when a particular build works in that manner (I have intermittently seen MC-6665 return under Catalina, but not reproducible enough to open a new bug).
The workaround provided by @unknown earlier does still work as described when launching the game in windowed mode and then activating fullscreen afterward.
Please let me know if I can provide any additional information.

Issue persists with 20w09a.
Any interaction with the java window prior to the game menu UI loading in completely triggers the need to double left-click on objects when using a mouse (MacBook Pro + Mac mini) or built-in touchpad (MacBook Pro) to select/interact with them. This is immediately apparent on the main menu, as selecting Singleplayer, Multiplayer, et al requires multiple clicks in this condition.
Not interacting with the window during the Mojang logo/loading screen and waiting for the music to begin playback allows the game to function as expected with single left-clicks from mouse or touchpad.
Only tested under macOS 10.15.3 (19D76) on both of my aforementioned machines; have not confirmed issue remains under macOS 10.5.4 (19E242d).
I just downloaded the game again after 3 years untouched and I have this problem as well. It's unplayable like this! The mouse is all over the place and I have problem placing things in inventory and unable to use a crafting table. I have tried different mouses and uninstalling and installing again...
I am also having this issue MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2018, Four Thunderbolt 3 Ports) running macOS Catalina Version 10.15.4; having to double click menu options and cursor showing in game
Issue persists with latest snapshots - can confirm and reproduce for 20w19a and for the MacBook Pro 16" Late 2019, MacOS Catalina 10.15.4.
This is a huge problem that I am extremely annoyed with, so I am sticking with 1.8.9 now. Mojang please fix this soon as it has already been almost 2 years now!
How is that possible ? I'm not talking about the fact Minecraft is the most sale video game in the history with more that 176,000,000 copies sold but I'm talking about this bug and all the elapsing time without a fix.
It already took age to fix the command button stuck when doing command + tab who was an huge pain.
Do you care about Mac User ?
Issue persists with 20w20a & 20w20b! Still no fix in snapshots 😞
I experience the same problem, I have found with 1.14 the issue could be resolved by quitting and restarting the launcher. I have not been able to get 1.15 to work in this manner, however, I have found that I can resolve the issue by starting 1.14 first, and if single-click works, I can then quit and restart 1.15, and single click works as expected. This does not resolve the issue, but it is a work-around and perhaps it can help some of you who experience the same problem.
Same issue here. Don’t really know a work around for this quite yet. Really annoying. I can’t find the way to change software versions of the boot launcher.
I am running
Mac OS X Catilina 10.15.4 on 2017 MacBook Pro 13.3" with function key

The best workaround I know of is to restart Minecraft. It might take more than one try, but it usually works.
If you command-Tab out of Minecraft and back in, it should fix the problem partially...
Not to get too excited, because we're months away from the eventual release of macOS 11 Big Sur, but comparing current macOS (10.15.5), the forthcoming point fix (10.15.6 [beta 2]), and the next release of macOS, it does look like this this becomes a non-issue. I am unable to replicate the issue under macOS 11 whereas I can reliably replicate the issue 100% of the time under Catalina, GA or beta.
Now, that's not to say that it still doesn't need to be resolved in Mojave and Catalina, but pointer behavior between the two OSes and the client might be a good place to start comparisons to narrow the issue.

Affects 1.16.1 Catalina.
About 2/3 of the time I load Minecraft, I have to double-click the left-mouse button to affect gui buttons and actions.
Is fixed by repeatedly restarting Minecraft until it works as intended... one left click on buttons and actions.
I had to replace the SSD on my MacBook Pro, and I forgot to save the directory $HOME/Library/Application Support/minecraft
. (Fortunately I had a backup of my main world on another computer.)
So I had to reconfigure Minecraft, and log in again. However, after I have done that, my mouse-clicking problem has gone away.
I suggest that everyone having this problem make a backup of the saves
folder, then delete $HOME/Library/Application Support/minecraft
and reinstall from scratch. Then put back the saves
folder where it belongs.
Update to my solution:
The solution I provided earlier still works for me. Simply start up Minecraft, and keep a different tab or window open until the panorama background is visible. I don't know why it works, but it does.
Workaround: Cmd-tab out and back in so that the window is properly focused.
I was also able to reproduce this issue with Minecraft 1.16.2 and 1.16.3. I've tested on two new MacBooks Pro running OSX Catalina and one older MacBook.
During my investigation I've found that that these issues are caused by the LWJGL library (we could add lwjgl label to the ticket).
I've been having the same issue, not sure if its something causing it or just random, about 1 in 10 times when I launch the game for left click I have to double click everything and the mouse pointer is still there in game and not locked to the crosshair.
Experiencing this in Version 1.16.3 (and previous)
MacOS 10.15.7 (and previous)
First use of Minecraft Client (for the day, let's say...) is fine.
Close client... open it again where iMac has been working uninterrupted (i.e. no sleep, no restart) and mouse exhibits loss of focus and the need to double click (from inside client selecting world type, server etc) and in-game where I must double click to select anything and then right click to drop it (in inventory)
Because I experience the phenomenon in the client, all the "full screen/focus" workarounds are irrelevant. it occurs BEFORE the game window opens, and remains until something... resets or refreshes. it is unclear what that is. If there is a reading/setting/ that will help, I'm happy to provide.
This often happens if you are switching between desktops by swiping or by doing control + arrow keys.
it seems, when you move the mouse after clicking "Play"-Button in launcher this causes the issue. Don't move mouse til game is fully loaded than there is normal click.
I have the exact same thing to say as Ralf.
It's easier to notice when it happens because it doesn't say "Java" in the top left corner.
sadly i have a mac : ( so i understand there r a lot of roblems with macos
this has happened to me a million times just click on the desktop and then click on java
I have two solutions to this bug, as I have experienced it too.
Put the computer to sleep and log in again. The problem shouldn't happen.
Quit the game and open it again.
How do I create a link for user's names like Jared Schmit did with Greymagic's name with his comment including the launcher log?
Yeah this issue has happened to me so many times that me and my friends have started calling it "Double Click" and restarting the game sometimes upwards of 5 times to fix it.
If you don't click until the realms news icon appears, it does not happen.
At least for me
I've experienced the same problem- it appears to be random. 😞 However, I think right-clicking works.
Same problem, often happens randomly. I don't have solution to fix it. MC 1.16.5, macOS Catalina 10.15.7.
Happening to me on M1 Mac Mini running Big Sur 11.4. The game isn't playable due to this bug.
Glad I found this thread; requiring a double-click for a single click action is still happening in late June 2021 on Minecraft version 1.17. I'm on an Intel based MBP with Mac OS Big Sur 11.4.
We have this very annoying error with the left click of a mouse not registering on one of our five macs.
We need to reboot multiple times an check if it fixes the problem.
All other applications do accept the mouse so I think it has to be something to do with the Java Event Loop or the GUI framework you are using. Please tell us if we can provide you with more detailed data.
And please assign someone who looks into this bug.
Permanent workaround at https://github.com/GameParrot/minecraft-mac-window-fix
its a setting within macos mouse settings itself
i fixed this for the mac we have
@Dylan if so, why would you not explain how to set said setting? Please share.
Can confirm in 1.18 pre-1.
Hi, I made an account to add to this. I am playing 1.17.1 Minecraft on MacBook Pro M1 (late 2020) with operating system Big Sur 11.6. I only downloaded the game on my Mac for the first time yesterday, and it's been 3 years since I last played it on my old laptop. It worked fine yesterday playing with my trackpad, but today I plugged in my mouse and immediately had this problem. I also found that when I loaded into my world, moving my mouse did not turn the camera unless I was clicking a mouse button, and then my character would stop performing the action until I clicked that button a few more times. It was ridiculous and unplayable. I followed the advice on her, CMD+tab ing out and in several times, closing and reopening the game, restarting my Mac and making sure not to touch my mouse while the game loaded up, but to no avail. However I did find a work around of my own, I loaded up the game and it wasn't clicking properly, so I unplugged my mouse, clicked on a few things using the trackpad, and then plugged my mouse back in and it worked fine. I hope this helps some people, but seriously Mojang, get this sorted.
TL;DR: Load up the game, unplug your mouse, click a few times with the trackpad, then plug your mouse back in.
The suggested work-around of cmd-tab to refocus the window doesn't entirely work. It does allow for one-click use of the gui as intended... but try to "Singleplayer", select a world, and then try to "Edit" World Name. The text input malfunctions making renaming the world impossible difficult. The game window still isn't properly focused.
This has been intermittently happening to us since we started playing Minecraft a little over a year ago.
It occurs on both our macs, a 2015 MacBook Pro on Mojave and a 2020 M1-based MacBook Air on BigSur.
It happens more often on our newer M1-based mac.
We only play in windowed mode.
Hard to confirm, but it seems to occur less often if we wait 5-10 seconds before clicking "Play" in the launcher. Perhaps there's some sort of race condition?
I've been having this problem for months now, and now on 3 different Macs. When I launch MC, it will need double click to open the game, and then to do anything, in solo and realms. I have to back out and re-launch, sometimes multiple times. I'm not sure about the focus of the window issue, because I always re-launch when I have to double click. Everything is up to date on all the computers, and is happening to date.
Can some please check if this is fixed in 22w16b as this snapshot comes with the latest LWJGL version.
I have the same problem in 1.20.2 (but it's the same on older versions). I use a Macbook Air M1. I install macOS Sonoma now. I look what happen. But please fix it. The bug is soo old now.
Edit 1 day later: I installed macOS Sonoma and it is working now again perfectly fine.
Affects 24w14a. This happens to me quite inconsistently, and I've only noticed the failed mouse capture, not the double-click issue.

Hello. I am the Original poster of this issue. It was several years ago and was on Behalf of a friend. I am no longer currently involved in the Community and am going to remove myself as a watcher from this post. I am fine if someone else takes “owner ship” or responsibility for the issue. Thank you all for your dedication in the maintenance and continuous improvement to this game.
I’ve also been experiencing this issue for years. On my old 2015 i5 MBP and on my new 2024 M3 MBP.
A bit surprised to not see more people commenting here on this issue, since I’ve definitely heard other people complain about it ingame on public servers. Happened to me again today and decided to finally Google it, and found this bug report.
A temporary workaround: alt-tabbing out and back in while toggling fullscreen and mission control at the same time usually re-captures the cursor.
Can confirm. This usually happens to me after I exit Minecraft then come back to it. Buttons malfunction and the mouse appears and even slides across the screen as I look around in game.
