As an attempt to fix the extremely common partially flooded caves in 1.18 Experimental Snapshot 2, Partially flooded caves were made too rare in 1.18 Experimental Snapshot 3

As an attempt to address a problem with snapshot 2 where water caves were too common, they are now made too rare. Many players have rarely encountered one. All that's left now is aquifers.

Strangely, water filled caves are now most common around y=0

I have attached a picture from Henrik's cavegen prototype video that showcases what a partially flooded cave looks like.

why did you use the minecaft live 2020  image

because that is experimental footage made  just to show a preview

those did exist in early public snapshots but this image from minecraft live is a perfect example

It seems that they're reduced significantly compared to the early 1.17 snapshots before the update split, IMO. In 1.18 snapshots, I can't seem to find any large exposed aquifers (lake/ocean-like) where we could go boating in it especially in the -y levels. This seems to affect lava aquifers too. Also it's hard to make a comparison between the early 1.17 snapshots and the 1.18 snapshots since the worldgen/seed has been significantly changed in between them.

We do not accept bug reports for experimental snapshots.

Thommy, this is reporting something originating from them, but still existing in normal snapshots now.

This was misinterpreted because of the summary. This issue still occurs in 21w42a.

Bug does not have attached seeds. Feedback for world generation should go to the feedback site or the other channels our developers has setup.

This bug is a bit of a feature request and feedback instead of being directly a bug report. The amount of partially flooded caves is a design decision, and not inherently a bug. This would be a bug if absolutely no partially flooded caves happened, and could be shown through several seeds.
