The Bug:
Copper golems attempt to pathfind to chests outside of their reach.
Steps to Reproduce:
Place down a copper chest floating in the air.
Summon a copper golem on the ground below and watch it closely.
Observed Behavior:
Copper golems attempt to pathfind to chests outside of their reach.
Expected Behavior:
Copper golems would not attempt to pathfind to chests outside of their reach.

However, this issue is Working as Intended.
Please note, that mechanics of the game may change between updates.
Things such as graphics, sounds, world creation, biomes, redstone, villagers, and animals may not work the same in current versions.

It may work “as intended” however I do not believe this to be good behavior.
I personally find this frustrating. The current golem behavior is akin to “ohh look shiny! Lemme grab that”, this level of intelligence is fitting for the mob.
BUT unless Mojang intends the golem to be annoying to work with, I highly suggest that it excludes unreachable targets.

This really shouldn’t be it’s intended behavior, it does not behave this way in the bedrock preview and makes it unnecessarily harder to use.
This will need to be reopened now. It’s a parity issue with Bedrock Edition.
The Copper Golem will no longer interact with Chests and Copper Chests that it cannot see
