Low performance with the Vulkan rendering backend on Intel Arc GPUs (especially on Linux)

The framerate when using the Vulkan renderer is significantly lower than OpenGL on Intel Arc GPUs.

This issue is much more severe under Linux system. I am getting single-digit FPS on Linux using an Intel Arc B580 at 1080p resolution with "Fabulous!" graphics settings.

I have confirmed that I am using the latest GPU drivers on both Windows and Linux.

intel arc runs fine for me, actually it runs way better than opengl, that always had stuttering problems. also joey, i hope you enjoy being spit in the mouth by nvidia or amd lol

I also use Linux with Intel graphics. When I select “Prefer OpenGL”, I get 40–70 FPS, but with “Prefer Vulkan” I only get 20–40 FPS on the same world with the same video settings.

Keep us updated, I almost got an Intel IGPU but needed raw performance for other games. The Arc B580 is a reasonably strong card, so drivers may be to blame.

I found I get higher FPS with my RX 7800XT when I turn off texture filtering. I used to have NVIDIA which straight up has broken Vsync so it would require me to turn off vsync then cap the max FPS to my monitor’s refresh rate of 240

Having the same issue on Fedora KDE Plasma using Wayland.

Seems like 26.3-snapshot-6 improve a lot.

But off V-Sync option still not work properly.

On KDE Wayland, the FPS is capped at the monitor's refresh rate in most time. Sometimes the frame rate can exceed the refresh rate when the window loses focus, which is really strange.

The issue seems resolved on windows now.

Idk about Linux.

Is this still an issue on Linux on 26.3 Snapshot-6?

Ergo, does the Vulkan backend still have lower FPS than OpenGL?

(You might wanna compare the Snapshot-6 Vulkan performance with Snapshot-5 OpenGL performance with since OpenGL got its own performance regression in this snapshot, MC-310568)

Also I suggest you report the VSync issue in another report as it’s completely unrelated to this report.

This also seems to be resolved on my Linux system (Arc B580)

snapshot 7 also performs well
