I've noticed since the latest snapshots that small animals, when they are pressed up against say, a cobblestone wall, they won't ever move away from it, as if they think they're stuck inside of it with nowhere to 'path out of the block', even if they aren't actually stuck inside said block.
I've noticed this happening in 12w49a as well as the version tagged above. (This could also have been happening in 1.4.5, but I wasn't paying much attention to it at that point)
The screenshot below is just showing the chickens all crowded up in the walls, and have been like that... for in game weeks.
Edit: It seems to happen most frequently around the corners of wall blocks and fences.

A better view, you can see the chickens stuck next to the corner blocks of the walls, and watching me, as if they're trying to get to the seeds, but can't. (The second picture)

I also have this problem in 1.4.7, chickens glitch into the cobblestone walls when they go between the wall and a chest.

Still occurring in snapshot 13w07a.

I'd just like to add that while in this state the player cannot interact with the mob, at least when stuck in the "corner" of a fenced area.
eg. If you try to feed a "stuck" chicken, you can't, and if you try to attack it, you will hit the wall instead of the mob.
It really seems like the mob is stuck inside the wall block from more than just a pathing perspective.

As a temporary solution, you can throw snowballs or eggs at the chickens just over the fences (Thier hitboxes are taller) to dislodge them

I believe it is due to the fact that the corner fences visual hitbox doesn't match up with its physical hitbox. The chickens can walk into the corner because the physical hitbox allows them to, then they don't move out because they are inside the visual hitbox. Note in the screenshot I just attached that I am not looking at the fence's physical hitbox but its visual hitbox is still visible. I presume this happened in 13W06A when the physical hitbox of the corner fence was revised.

This is still happening in 1.5.1. Chicken can be fed seed in the wall and produce eggs and chicks but they never move out of the corner even when enticed with seeds. They can be killed and will drop feathers and chicken.

It's not just corner walls they get stuck in, they can get stuck anywhere along the walls, but strangely not in fence gates.

I am having this problem as well. Only way to fix it is kill the mob or break the fence block and push them out. At least, that is the only way I have figured out so far.

You can test this yourself in the world attached. Fly above the chickens with seeds and watch them follow you, (or bug out and just stand in the walls). (if they're not in their pens, then that's another bug...)

this also works with creepers. if a creeper is against a cobblestone wall he will not chase you.

I have 1.6.2 and it's still happening. You can either push them to a gate and they get free or you can dig out the dirt from beneath them. Or kill them.

Okay, this issue affects the gameplay in 1.6.2 and the latest snapshot (13w37b) as well. (My spec: Asus N55SL, NVidia 635m (2 GB vram), 8GB ram, Java 1.7.0_15-b03, Win 7 64-bit (with latest updates) )

It happened to me in 1.6.4.

also in 1.7.2

It's possible to hit/interact with chickens when they're stuck like this, but it's hard to. F3+B reveals that there's a very specific angle from which you can aim at its hitbox without hitting that of the fence.
Please fix.

This issue seems fixed in 14w11b.

Surely not fixed in 14w28b: http://www.twitch.tv/ezerarch/b/546712944 (bug occurs after 1:00)
EDIT: http://redd.it/2af8m3

This can be clearly seen with the new NoAI tag from 14w32:

The intent of the NoAI tag is to stop all AI ticks from affecting that mob. That includes movement.

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.8.1 Prerelease 3 / Launcher version 1.5.3 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

This is still a concern in the latest version. They are still getting stuck in the corners of fences.

Reopened, thanks.

It is present in PlayStation 4 version.
Applies for at least adult chickens and cows.

I can no longer reproduce this issue in the latest version of PC minecraft (16w02a)
