Chickens lay eggs even when gamerule doMobLoot is false

The point of doMobLoot is that animals drop nothing, it doesn't matter if they are holding it in their inventory or anything else, mobs should drop nothing as long as this gamerule is true.

"The point of doMobLoot is that animals drop nothing".

While this is true, I think you're missing something.

doMobLoot is when animals drop nothing upon death. Not sure if this is intentional, though if its not, then we can't craft cake in survival with the gamerule on.

i don't really get ur point on the cake thing, you can't craft a lot of things with doMobLoot false, thats why its for mapmakers like most game rules, and i don't want eggs spamming my mini games/maps just cos i have a couple of chickens in it

and MC-28400 was confirmed to be true despite it not affecting mobs UPON DEATH as you say

I'd have to agree with the OP. Eggs should be group with mobLoot. On false, it would be better if eggs did not appear.

this is still requiring confirmation, we need to be clear on whether or not this is Works as Intended

Confirmed for 1.8.1 and 1.8.2-pre1.

Confirmed in 1.8.3. Definitely a bug, MC-28400 being fixed shows that doMobLoot is supposed to affect all items gotten from mobs, not just ones dropped on death.

You could just /kill the egg entities.

Grum, this resolution seems inconsistent. Why does the doMobLoot gamerule affect XP from breeding, but not eggs from chickens?

Most likely because eggs aren't considered "loot" from mobs.
