Clicking "Microsoft Login" causes launcher to force quit

You need the Xbox app to download a identifier then you can login

I also have the same problem.

I have the same issue.

I also had the gamebar, but the xbox app is a separate app. 

What solved it for me is install the Xbox app from the Windows store. Afterwards I had to install the "Xbox Identity Provider" from inside of the Xbox app.

Now I am able to login using my Microsoft account on the Minecraft Launcher.

Why is this not being checked when the Launcher is installed??????????????????

same problem here, i tried everthing. 

I am now able to login with the new Minecraft launcher after installing the Xbox App and Xbox Identity Provider from the microsoft store, as suggested.  Thank you for the comments explaining this.  It's too bad that the Minecraft launcher can't give a more helpful error message explaining what is missing instead of just saying "Something went wrong in the login process!".
