Hello! I have the same problem, with the same device and same Android version.
The device is a Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930) running on the android 8.0.0 Oreo OS.
The error message in the description of this task is in Portuguese, same language here for me.
My Minecraft PE was running on my mobile until a week ago, when I restore to factory defaults. And now I can't login into my XBox Live Account. Occurs the same crash problem.

@Kinga Please see my comment in this ticket, which I believe links a lot of duplicated reports together: https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-98126?focusedCommentId=806862&page=com.atlassian.jira.plugin.system.issuetabpanels:comment-tabpanel#comment-806862

When trying to sign in, Minecraft just closes.
Not a new user - been playing for months.
Minecraft Version 1.16.40.02
The device is a Huawei P10 lite (Model: WAS-LX2) running on the Android 8.0.0.

Same issue. Android 8.0

I have same problem on Huawei M5 lite. When i click to log in it crashes MCPE completely

I'm getting the same crash with 1.16.40 on android 8.0 whenever trying to sign in, either from the home screen or profile settings.
I captured this from the adb logcat at the time:

same problem and crash experience with a fresh install of 1.1.6.40 specifically on an lg v20 (oreo 8.0.0), which was working on an older 1.16 release prior to a factory reset.
tried clearing cache and data, no joy.
tried fresh install, no joy.
i tried it with auto rotation on and off, but there's no obvious way to affect the rotation check that's seen in the previous person's adb log.
using the Microsoft launcher and edge (default) , neither of which have login issues. it's something specific to minecraft. maybe an interaction with chrome for the saml login prompt?

I am having same issue with Huawei T5 Mediapad Mincraft V1.16.40. Crashes to home screen when click on sign in to microsoft account bottom lrft of start up screen. How to fix please?

This is also happening with my son's Mediapad, we tried resetting everything, reinstalled the game and finally reset his tablet, just to have the same problem.

1.16.100.57 too

Same for me Huawei Y7, Version 1.16.40 please fix

A7 2017 can't login Mincraft V1.16.40. Crashes to home screen when click on sign in to microsoft account bottom lrft of start up screen. How to fix please?

{{I am having same issue with Huawei Mediapad T5 EMUI 8.0, }}crashes whenever I click on any login prompt.

Hopefully the problem will be solved soon.

This is not even just a problem on mobile. It at least affects Switch as well.
They clearly made changes to the account stuff after 1.14 that were not needed.
Before I could easily just switch to local and back and it would sign in immediately but now I'm lucky if the system doesn't freeze up just because I put it to sleep and if it doesn't it'll fail and fail and fail and require me to login again after restarting the software possibly multiple times.
And even if it does then I'll probably end up restarting a few more times since it'll get stuck on loading a realm.
It's like they actively don't want people to play. what is so hard about this? Dungeons does it just fine.

Same issue here almost a month that happen where same phone of my wife samsung s9 android 8.0.0

how long to fixed this?! Its almost a month dude what are you doing mojang!

The same thing happens to me. I recently got Minecraft for Android. When I clic on the Sign In button in order to log in with my Microsoft/Xbox Live account the Minecraft app just closes. I should be redirected to a page where I can log in but nothing pops up, minecraft just closes.
I contacted Microsoft and they told me my account was fine and that it has something to do with Minecraft. I contacted Minecraft and they told me to submit this as a bug. Another similar issues:

Same issue on a MediaPad M5 lite !

same for Huawei Y8 >;((

Whats the update for this problem?? I think we cannot enjoy the upcommimg halloween because of this problem to all mcpe user

Got the same issue on my samsung galaxy s7 version 8.0.0

O have the same problem un mi Motorola Moto Z Play with Minecraft 1.16.40

whats the status of this issue, still no updated

I got solution on this guys and all by my self just message me on fb

What's your fb

@Adonis Taruc, if you know a workaround please, share it. Many ppl suffer from this.

Soon as I try to log in it just crash to the mane scream then showing a box saying open app again or send feedback. 2 more times to log in it gives close app or send feedback. I even try to reinstall the game but no change to it. I'm using Samsung galaxy 7 edge.

The issue is still affecting 1.16.100.59.

my fb is the same as my name im wearing red polo shirt with black cap

hey guys i dont know if its work on beta mode, but mine is from google play store and if you are using android 8.0.0 version, you just need to update your phone into android 10.0 and one UI 2.0, i try all possible to fix the issue and i by my self found that phone below 10.0 android is cannot handle the version 16.4 or mc thats all guys if you have any question message me on my fb

I mean most phones can't just update themselves out of Oreo

if you are updated on minecraft news on july, they said that the old or low version or ram that below on 720mb something is gonna stop the support for updated mc, sad to say if you are not able to updated to oreo you cant play the latest version of mc

That's not the issue either, the base game works fine, and so does logging in the beta version (which is a future version btw), this is clearly an unnintended bug, or else this support ticked would be closed by now, and yet it's still being updated as an issue given the fact that duplicates are still being junctioned to it

Same problem here with my fully updated and freshly wiped Samsung S7 running Android 8.0.0 (most recent available for the S7).
Minecraft runs ok if not signed in. As soon as I try to sign in it crashes. Beta works fine, but obviously no good for multiplayer or realms play.
Reverting from Beta doesn't fix the bug. Installing Xbox before or after doesn't resolve the bug. Installing minecraft earth doesn't resolve the bug either (though minecraft earth sign in works just fine).
Especially frustrating as i just bought this phone second hand specifically so my kid would have a device that can run minecraft.

@angel cortez please translate that info to English, it's the most used language on this bug tracker.

Same problem here
The problem from what i have seen is that it only happens on phones with 8.0 as the software version
Meaning that it was probably an oversight by the team or something like that
Also, not every phone can update to android 10.0 adonis so that isn't helpful

Same here. It keeps crashing whenever try to login. Android 8.0.0 LG G5 (F700S30h) No root. Vanilla itself.

Virtually the same as Muhanned a few versions up. Bought kid a new phone to improve minecraft experience. It is Samsung Galaxy J3 Orbit, running Android 8.0. It appears to be an Android 8.0-specific issue, but later android versions aren't available for most phones. Also appears to be specific new installations of Minecraft, vs. upgrades: Can still log in with the old phone, but the screen was going and it didn't support all features – thus the reason for a new device.
Single-player/non-login works fine, just can't login to realms to join servers or friends.
Note: on a Samsung Galaxy J3 Luna Pro, running Android 6.0.1, it does work, supporting the theory this is an Android 8.0 issue. We grabbed an old phone to try.

I think I got something.
I recommand you check this out on your device. This is Developer Options.
Something keeps failing to start Webview, on the log above, so I assume that this be an Android security issue
[media]
[media]

I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the latest Android security update. I've been waiting a while to install the latest one but after updating logging in to Microsoft account stopped working. Running Oreo on an Huawei Mediapad 10 lite. Updated yesterday and now it's not working. Nothing else updated.

@Håkan, It's most likely an app issue as I see on Stack Overflow:
Though I may be wrong. The actual error is "Only fullscreen opaque activities can request orientation", which means, activity launching fails for other reasons, not because of WebView or related updates.
I wonder, what is the status of this issue? Many ppl experience it and yet no official answer that this will be fixed?

Well I'm no expert. Just know that it was working before latest Android security patch from Huawei. And not working afterwards.

And it doesnt crash immediately after launching. I can play the game not logged in. But app closes when trying to sign in to my Microsoft account.

Happens for me on two different Samsung Galaxy S7 (SM-G930F) with Android 8.0.0 and Minecraft 1.16.40. It used to work fine on these devices about two months ago. Local play does still work.
Playing on a server still works on my Samsung Galaxy Tab A with Android 8.1.0 though.

Definitely does feel like an Android 8.0.0 problem since my Moto Z Play is running Android 8.0.0 and Minecraft 1.16.40 and it's also crashing every time I try to log in.

And it's been a month... 😞

Somehow, it worked in prev versions of Minecraft? I do not think it's an Android version issue, therefore.
I have an option to upgrade my Asus to the beta Android 9 without any support only. And I'm almost sure many ppl cannot upgrade at all (upgrading the phone to another major Android version is always a big issue for many phone manufacturers).
So I beg you just fix this issue.

i bought the game on my galaxy s7 edge c android 8.0, i find myself in the same problem. Now it is to be expected that they will take appropriate action quickly, since many people are being harmed by what happened

As mentioned in an earlier comment there is a Java exception triggered when the application tries to set landscape orientation for a transparent activity window. From logcat:
E AndroidRuntime: java.lang.RuntimeException: Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{com.mojang.minecraftpe/com.microsoft.xal.b
rowser.WebView}: java.lang.IllegalStateException: Only fullscreen opaque activities can request orientation
According to:
this appears to be a problem specific to Android 8.0 - API level 26. It used to work with older Android versions and works again with more recent versions. Google fixed something for later Android versions:
https://issuetracker.google.com/issues/68454482
However, I don't have the impression that this will be fixed on OS level for the numerous Android 8.0 devices out there, so it would be good if a workaround could be implemented in the app.

Minecraft will stop working as soon as you try and login to your account. Please fix as I can't join my realm.

Same issue Android 8.0.0 but this is an issue with a new Huawei Tablet

I'm concerned that with less than 100 votes this will not get resolved quickly

Same issue. Samsung Galaxy S7, Android 8.0.

same issue at Huawei MediaPad T5

same issue at Asus Zenfone 3 (Z017D)

I just found a solution to this on a Microsoft support forum (link below). It worked for me and at least one other user.
The solution, in a nutshell, was to uninstall the current version, find an older version somewhere (I used the SAI app to copy it from another device of mine, but others have used the aptiod store) and install that. The older version will allow you to log in to Xbox live. Once successfully logged in, go to the Google app store and 'update' the Minecraft app, and it will continue to work.
Obviously this is a kludge, and I don't know what would happen if I tried to switch accounts once updated (my guess would be another crash) but this is working for now.
Tip: switch the world storage option from internal to external to ensure that worlds persist throughout uninstallations and réinstallations.
Good luck. I hope it's properly fixed soon.

It's really really hard to switch storage with preserving all the worlds. It made me nuts and guts until I found a solution to copy the world from internal storage to outside when I tried to reinstall, and I'm a developer - what to tell about regular users? You can root device, but it costs either money or time and effort nearly the same as just make a copy. And complete application backup with data does not work for Android 8, so most users are still trapped here unless they are easy with losing all the worlds during reinstalls.
Conclusion: all workarounds I know are really hard, nearly impossible for regular users. So this issue remains a blocker for many players.

That sounds like a feature request! The feature would be something like: on switching world storage, give the user the option to copy/export worlds from the previous storage to the newly selected one.

my son found a work around, he installed Minecraft toolbox, after this he was able to login to the MS account in the toolbox and and Minecraft game itself

my son found a work around, he installed Minecraft toolbox, after this he was able to login to the MS account in the toolbox and and Minecraft game itself

I can confirm this works but not ideal. Thank you. But this needs to be fixed.

This work around worked for me too.

They've already fixed this. If you enroll in the beta for Android in Google Play, you will get version 1.16.200.x where login to XBox Live works just fine. However, you obviously cannot join any servers using 1.16.40.x
I'm pretty sure I did this a few weeks ago and got 1.16.100.x which worked also, but cannot confirm this now.
I even have this issue on Windows 10, it's not just an Android problem. I also think the fix they rolled out to PS4 last month (1.16.61) may have been a fix for this exact same bug.

I confirme, they've already fixed this on 1.16.200.x , i have tested on android beta version program.

Same for me, I am on version v1.16.40.

I'm having the same issue.
Android 8.0.0
Moto Z Play
Minecraft 1.16.40.02 from Play Store
Tried reinstalling Minecraft, factory resetting phone, installing and logging in to Xbox before opening Minecraft, and nothing helped.
Using Toolbox for Minecraft: PE did allow me to log in, but it seems I have to always launch the game using it for it to remain logged in.

I'm having this issue too.
Moto Z2
Android 8.0.0
Minecraft 1.16.40
and when I manage to log in (for some reason he logs in alone), a message appears saying that my Microsoft account is disconnected, but I always log in to Microsoft and place my account.

Same as Micael Jarniac
Moto Z Play, Android 8.0.0

Has the same exception on two xiaomi mi5 with factory reset and updated firmware. I set them up for kids and am very disappointed with the result.

Same problem.
MCPE 1.16.40
Huawei Mediapad T3 10
Android version: 8.0.0
Installing toolbox does allow us to log into the MS account, but then we can only play when using toolbox.

Hello!
I am having the same problem. I have a Samsung Galaxy S7 edge SM-G935F on android 8.
The game crashes the second I press the sign in button.
I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game a few times, it didn't fix the problem.

Same issue here. Moto Z2 play, Android 8. It worked perfectly in the past but now it's always crashing when I click on connect.

Same problem.
MCPE 1.16.40
Huawei Mediapad T3 10
Android version: 8.0.0
Minecraft opens and I can play with no issues.
When I click sign in - the black box pops up with Microsoft account: connecting - then the App crashes out.
Downloaded Xbox app on same tablet and i can login to that fine.

Logged in OK on my son's Mediapad T3, never had any issues. But I've bought my daughter the same Mediapad T3 and have downloaded MCPE fine, but when I click log in it just crashes. Tried uninstalling, reinstalling, downloading the Xbox app etc.
It's her birthday Sunday, I'm really hoping this bug is fixed by then, or I will have a 'Happy Birthday, here's your gift... Only the main reason we bought it for you won't work, enjoy!' moment.
Thank you 😃

Please consider downloading the app "Toolbox for Minecraft: PE". It's a workaround for this issue. The only problem is that you have to launch Minecraft with Toolbox everytime you want to play on your account.

@Gemma Phillips- as is becoming apparent from the various hack and tips on this thread, the issue really seems to be with new installs of the app on an Android 8.0 device. Your experience with your children's mediapads seems to re-enforce this notion. So I think the solution that worked for me may be appropriate for you too.
As I have Minecraft installed on several devices in my house, I was able to copy a less recent version from another device (my Nvidia Shield TV - not officially supported, so not automatically updated via the Google Play store) using the Split APKs Installer (SAI) app (available in the Play store - rooting not required). SAI clones all the data related to the app, so perhaps it's not relevant that the version I copied was older - maybe the important thing is that it had been successfully logged in as some point, I don't know.
Regardless, I believe that if you copy the version on your daughter's tablet to your son's you will be able to log into your son's account, and then, if necessary, update the app while still remaining logged in.
I would love to know if you are successful.

@JuanCarlos Aguilera, please, read my comment. When you uninstall MC, all worlds are lost if storage was application internal. And, @AM71113363, when you switch to external, worlds do not copy and are still lost when you uninstall MC, and you cannot just copy them that easily. So, that approach with "Toolbox for Minecraft: PE" will work for new MC users only (or users who already set to store worlds externally, that is NOT default). For existing users that play for a long time reinstalling Minecraft (even to an older version) is not an option at all, so it's still a significant blocker issue for a large number of users.

TO use Realms, you need to sign in. And we cannot 🙂

"Minecraft Pocket Edition World Exporter" is exactly the way I did copy my worlds manually without a tool, just from the command line. Still troublesome, not all have Windows at hand (I did it from Mac OS).

Just a side note, once I started experiencing this issue, I did try searching around and couldn't find any useful information, so I ended up contacting Minecraft support about it, with the following message:
I've downloaded Minecraft on my Motorola Moto Z Play a few days ago, and when the game opened, there was a button to sign in with a Microsoft account. Clicking that would then show a loading screen, and the app would crash.
I've then tried downloading the Xbox app and logging in to it, then go to Minecraft to log in, and it still crashed.
Today I've just factory reset my phone, installed Minecraft, and it still crashed before allowing me to log in.
My phone is running stock Android 8.0.0, no pending updates.
The Minecraft app is version 1.16.40.02, no update available on Play Store.
I've tried reinstalling the app many times, tried logging in to the Xbox app, tried erasing cache and data, and nothing helped.
A couple of days later (6 days, to be more specific), they replied:
Hey there,
Sorry to hear you're having trouble with your game.
If you have device troubleshooting or billing questions for mobile editions of Minecraft, please contact your device's app store:
Google: https://support.google.com/googleplay
Best Regards,
NAME
In between me asking for support and they replying, I managed to find this issue thread, by myself, but it wasn't easy.
I'm sharing it here because I got quite disappointed at how dull and unhelpful the official support was in this case. I mean, I know there doesn't seem to be a fix for this bug as of now, but they could at least acknowledge it's indeed a bug, and maybe even link me to the official issue, so I could upvote it to hopefully bring more attention to it and have it fixed.
Instead, they went with what I believe was a copy-paste of a super generic answer, and kinda blamed the Google Play Store for the issue I was having.
I know current world-wide events probably played a role on this, but still, they could at least mention there exists a bug tracker, and that I could try searching or reporting this bug there.

This bug is also on android 9, same problems everyone else is listing

@Jarom Moore, I think you're the first one reporting it on Android 9. Could you share more info with us, like what's your device, the version of Minecraft you have installed, and so on? I think that could be valuable info, especially as everyone else seems to be having this issue on Android 8 only.

I have a dragon touch y88x pro, I think the version is the 16.40 hotfix, and I have the Xbox app and already have an account from a 5th gen fire tablet. I had also tried uninstalling and reinstalling minecraft and Xbox in a bunch of different orders but it still just crashes.

Same issue. Just bought the app from play store and installed on my kids Huawei T5 Mediapad tablet and it crashes as soon as you press sign in and comes out of the game. Model AGS2 W09. Build number 8.0.0.318

I was having this issue for a while, but i figured out that the app was being denied access to storage.... after allowing that permission, the app signed in normally.

Well that was a simple fix

Im currently having a issue similiar to this but also not quite the same. Yesterday I was playing on my account with no problems. I updated the game to the 1.16.4 version and after that i feel like my game just signed out my account. I noticed a while after that, and when i tried signing back in, my game "crashed" after i selected one of 2 options after "Sign in" button. Crashed is in quotes because my game just closes but without the pop-up. I tried the storage access thing, the issue still remains. Any solutions? My phone is Honor 7A, android.

I had this problem, and I tried and tried. I turned off developer options and then went to the app permissions for Minecraft and allowed them all. I also joined the beta for Minecraft. Then it worked like expected.

Hello,
For a few months now, I've not been able to login to minecraft on my tablet. For a long time prior to this, I was logged in without any issues, but one day it had logged me off. Now after this, when I click log on, it simply closes down the app. It will do so every single time. I've uninstalled/reinstalled the game several times and have even reset my tablet to factory settings.
I'm frustrated as I have bought stuff and I frequently play this game with my children, and not being logged in, results in not being able to play with them when they aren't home.
The storage fix doesn't help the issue.
Please help.
Huawei mediapad t5, android 8.0.0

This needs to be fixed. This bug lost me my 174 day loginstreak on my favourite server. I haven't been able to play for a month, and Mojang haven't done anything about this. It's almost as if they don't care. Fix. This. Bug. None of the solutions given by other members of this community have worked for me and many others, so start taking action Mojang. Mobile matters aswell.

Still no fix.

Exact same issue on Huawei Mediapad T5, just brought the game, tried everything suggested on various sites, still can't sign in to Microsoft Account, crashes and closes before the window to sign into Microsoft Account even appears.
