This is a long standing bug which I've forgotten to report until now.
Steps to reproduce:
Create a loop of powered rails so that minecarts keep running indifinitely.
Put a minecart or its any variant on the rail.
Crash the game while keeping the chunk with the running cart loaded.
Load the world again after it crashes.
What I expect to happen:
Minecarts should not despawn. Their momentum should also be saved in the file.
What actually happens:
Minecarts almost always despawn. For a normal minecart, whether a mob or a player is riding on it or not is not relevant to the result.
Note that this is not a rollback issue (MCPE-12347). Minecarts despawn even if there are newer changes to the chunk which are correctly auto-saved before crashing.
This also happens in a realm.

According to @unknown he cannot reproduce it in 0.16 beta so I assume this has been fixed.

This is still occurring in 0.16. I'm not sure how to re-open so am posting a comment to see if that does it. If not, I'll report a new one and link this to it.
Reopened and added 0.16.0 according to @unknown

Thanks Mega_Spud. I'll add here I'm using a 9.7" iPad Pro.
This possibly explains why I have certain hopper minecarts that regularly despawn on my survival map, on Windows 10 PC.

I've just seen this again in 1.03 on iPad Pro 9.7"
Hopper minecarts despawned after an unexplained crash on 1.1.0.55, Windows 10.

Also affects parrots on 1.2.1. All of my parrots despawned due to this bug.

Gosh, this has been open for a year. Please fix it. it's costing me a small fortune in iron. Every time I load the game, the minecarts are gone and I have to craft more.
I am on the xbox version of the game.
version 1.2.3
This is a very frustrating bug.

Not during a crash, but between saves, this is happening to stationary carts as well. I just had a Cart w/ Chest disappear off an unpowered power rail. Specifically, setup is:
Cobblestone block with button-> 2 cobblestone block with unpowered power rail-> rest of track (powered every 15)
I was building an extension on my rather extensive rail system, and went stone gathering, leaving a Cart w/ Chest filled with various rail supplies (~40 powered rail, ~300 rail, torches, redstone torches, glass, etc). Left unobserved through 5-6 login sessions (in a highly developed fenced area) as I gathered cobblestone less than 300m from where it rested. Returned and the Cart w/ Chest was gone. A separate normal cart on a different track ~7blocks away, also on unpowered power rail, was unmoved. Tried reloading with the most recent previous save (I back up on OneDrive), and they were gone there too.
I think I had a similar issue with a single Cart w/ Chest a few weeks/months ago, but figured I must have been mistaken. This time there is absolutely no doubt. Of note, I'm almost certain it's never happened to me for a normal empty minecart.
Windows 10 Edition, newest update (1.2.552.0)
Standard local Survival-Normal using Natural Texture Pack
Seems identical to issue posted at MC-12194 so likely a cross platform issue. If that adds anything.
Also, I have collected a few of the backups leading to this, if these will help you in some way...
Update: found a backup that had the Cart w/ Chest still there, about 2-3 saves before disappearing. Have 4 nearly sequential backups (one corrupted). If you want to investigate those further let me know, I'll zip and ship them.

still occurring as of 1.2.8. not sure if it's the world crashing that's causing it, sometimes the chunk simply being inactive for a short time will do it

Still occurs as 1.2.9

Still happens on 1.5.3 (Nintendo Switch). I lost over a dozen minecarts with hopper in my automatic farms - they just vanished. Seems to happen randomly when loading game, returning from the nether.
As per MCPE-21416, entities (including minecarts) can end up being lost if they happen to be positioned on the boundary between two chunks when the game crashes. One workaround for this is to position the entities away from chunk boundaries, which can be calculated using coordinates.

Though that is a useful tip, often it is impossible and mostly pointless to contain a minecart to a 16x16 square. However I find my carts/entities disappear on chunk loading (or perhaps unloading) seems the game currently handles the chunk loading badly. Even the order things are loaded, entities first then the blocks. Sort of makes hidden treasure chest pointless since all we have to do is quite the game and reload to see where the chest is before the blocks appear.

After several months of monitoring this issue. I have noticed that the hopper minecarts are turning into dropped items. (i.e. as in when a hopper minecart hits a cactus.) I have several farms that use stationary Hopper minecart sitting on a rail above a hopper collection system. After a game crash the hopper and the minecart items will be in the chest. I originally thought the carts were just disappearing until I found the items in the chest. I hope you guys can fix this issue with the bedrock code.

Confirmed in 1.9 mcpe

This (or something similar) just happened to me on xbox one. 3 days ago I built 2 tiny auto-farms near my house (only 30 on the Y and 80 on the Z away from my activity area) and had 2 continuously travelling minecarts going more or less fine while playing (the now despawned minecart would stop on rare occasion for some reason unknown to me, but if I gave it a nudge it would make its continuous rounds again without further issue; it would still be running as it should if I exited the game normally and returned later).
Today I was distracted away from the game for awhile, the xbox eventually timed out and shut off automatically. When I returned to the game, 1 minecart (and its chicken passenger) were gone. Placing a new minecart on the track resulted in a minecart which would stop every time after going around any corner, and so does not function as the depawned one did-- until a sheep jumped in, and now it goes all the way around back and forth again. I don't know what that's about, but in any case, my original minecart appears to have despawned, possibly due to the xbox turning off before I exited the game properly. Game auto-save is frequent but the game doesn't seem to have remembered the minecart where it was, nor did it remember the existence of the minecart from my last manual save+exit.

Still happening as of 1.12 on the Switch version. My hopper minecart underneath my automatic melon/pumpkin farm is disappearing every time I save and exit.

Yeah I can confirm the issue is still present. Been hopping to get my melon/pumpkin farm working for 2 years now!

This bug is hitting me on Nintendo switch it seems to happen every time it crashes...

This happens to me as well. Nintendo switch

Minecart with hopper despawn from small pumpkin farm after my game crashed playing on Windows 10 with another player that was on Nintendo Switch.

2 players both Windows 10, v1.14.105 - game doesn't even crash, we just both leave the chunk and return shortly and the hopper-minecart is gone.
@@unknown - Is that happening on a Realm, or a local world?

Isn't this just a special case, and thus a duplicate of, MCPE-21416?
MCPE-21416 is about entities despawning randomly.
This ticket is about minecarts always despawning when moving during a crash. Here "crash" would be equivalent to any method of shutting down the game without using "Save & Quit" to exit the world first.
There is another ticket, MCPE-51837, for entities that are ridden by the player despawning.

Im on mcpe.My hopper minecarts keep despawning, I've wasted a lot of iron trying to fix my rails. I'm in my own world, and my game doesn't have to crash, if I just leave th chunk it despawns

I’m on bedrock, PS4. Carts reliably disappears everytime the game is turned off.

I have two separate farms set up in exactly the same next to each other using hopper minecarts. The first farm for sugar cane has had the hopper minecart despawn multiple times, while the bamboo farm three blocks separate does not. When the minecart with hopper is replaced, it runs slightly faster than the other. All Redstone, observer, and rail positions are identical, and the farms are aligned on the x axis. The only difference is the water blocks for the sugar farm using 2 source blocks one on either end. The Redstone components are not connected.

@Amber Brimberry I believe the speed of the hopper minecart could be related to how full it is. Could you provide a picture, coordinates, or world save with your farms?
If anyone else could provide the same that might be helpful.

I can't provide a picture-I'm running bedrock on XBox one and xbox live is not allowing captures to be uploaded to the online accounts due to volume for the time being.
Set up: lever block-powered rail-10normal rails-powered rail sitting atop a hopper-lever block on top of barrel.
The minecart hoppers are both empty due to the hopper drop system, but are running at different speeds
Farms are set on the following coordinates measured from lever block on either end (edit they're aligned on z):
Sugar cane (experiencing issue)
(881,68,-212),(868,68,-212)-end with hopper setup
Bamboo farm (no issue)
(864,68,-212),(851,68,-212)-end with hopper setup.
I've noticed that the despawn is usually after I've left the chunk for more than 2+ consecutive game days, and only began since i removed the sugar cane farm from the bamboo farm's observer, giving the sugar cane farm its own. There is only 1 per farm set 5 blocks above the hopper drop.

This has to be fix. Minecart arent cheap ya know?

Im on 1.15.2 and I have a very similar issue. Large powered rail loop with hopperminecart for a sugar cane farm and cart always despawns if I move a certain distance away.

@@unknown 1.15.2 is not a current Bedrock Edition version. It sounds like you are playing Java Edition. This is a Bedrock Edition bug report. You can find the Java project here.

I'd like to provide a world save to you, but don't know the process. Please let me know the basic steps if you would still like one as this method might bypass Xbox live restrictions.

@@unknown Files <10 MB can be attached directly to the report here on the bug tracker. Files >10 MB can be uploaded to a file sharing site like OneDrive or GoogleDocs or several others. Unfortunately, I'm not familiar with the XBox console and how you might extract your world save. Windows 10 PC has an export option in the world settings that generates a .mcworld file. If you have access to the file system on XBox you might be able to find the folder for the affected world. If you can upload folder somewhere I can convert it to a .mcworld file. I'm not too familiar with the XBox Live app, though I have it on my phone and might be able to receive a file through it if that's possible.
Just to let you know, I have already built something like what you described previously in a test world. I've done some testing with it, but it takes a lot of time and trials with an issue like this. However, I suspect that in your case the despawning is related to the hopper-minecart crossing a chunk border from X = 879 to X = 880. If you could move the farm 1 block to the west or just cut the length by 1 block on the east end, your problem might go away. (That would also mean your issue is better covered by MCPE-21416, because this report is specific to crashes.)

Thanks for the link, i attributed it to a crash initially, but afterwards experienced it again without a crash so the other ticket might be more relevant. I'm going to move it and see if the issue stops

I'm playing on the 1.16 Beta and this issue is really getting on my nerves. I didn't know what was happening at first so I kept replacing my minecarts thinking that it was not a bug but a feature. Quite a lot of my farms use hopper minecarts. I really hope this issue is fixed ASAP.

This is happening on REALMS for a straight track system about 20 rails long. It is located possibly at the limit of the chunk loading from the bed in my main base, affecting an outlying system of automatic farms. Someone said trying a loop track might help, but I read elsewhere that this does not work. I've lost 3 minecarts with hoppers.
[media]
As a workaround you can put minecarts unloaders in your farm and activate it only when your farm produces something. Like when a piston breaking pumpkins fires or when you activate a flying machine or whatever. Just pick a signal with an observer and use that to turn the minecarts on and off

I have been having this issue as well with a zombie and skeleton farm. Both are being used in a Bedrock Realm that happen to be within ticking areas. After reading this I believe, but cannot be 100% sure, that the minecart hoppers have only disappeared after a crash that results in a rollback of 15-30 minutes (twice now). They don't get stuck or anything, they literally disappear. While not the worst thing ever, it is a bit of a pain of a bug.

Happened to me twice, I have 12 Minecarts in a Bamboo farm, all 12 have disappeared twice now... plus one i have in a sugar cane farm, Im on PS4 bedrock 1.16.1 singleplayer.

On XB1 with 1.16 update & I am suddenly seeing similar behaviour. I have several farms / smelters etc in a survival world created pre Nether update using hopper carts & the carts have started randomly disappearing since the update.
Difficult to pin down the circumstances as I have just noticed they're gone after a period of game time. I can say however that I don't experience crashes, and always close with save & close command. I just go off exploring & return to the minecart lottery.... which one's disappeared this time?!
It may well be a separate issue to the one posted, but I can't find an issue described exactly as I am experiencing it but feel it's very similar / possibly connected.

Minecarts kept in chests and barrels are not despawning. Not much of a workaround, but at least it doesn’t cost any more iron.

I have the same issue too, with hopper minecarts running on rails and powered rails. It spans multiple chunks and due to this issue I had removed the minecarts completely.

@Dreadful M most of our issues are with minecarts in farms/collection systems/etc that are running at all times lol

Same as @Matt Pook, left my XB1 at 1.16.1 running at my trident killer grinder, came back to my base, missing quite some things:
Hopper-minecart at my sugarcane farm disappeared
3 villagers disappeared (1 at my wheat farm, 2 "random" villagers I had for trading string and paper)
Horse in diamond armor disappeared
The game didn't crash, but unloaded after a few hours of inactivity.

Noticed my wool farm wasn’t working. The hopper Minecart had despawned. Incredibly expensive to replace each time the chunk is re-loaded.

Minecraft PE 1.16.10 minecart with hopper vanished (wool farm). I just built it yesterday too.

Bedrock ps4 hopper minecart despawned from sugarcane farm in spawn chunk the day after installation. Smh. No game crash either.

minecart with hopper in my sugarcane farm was stopping randomly when i would go to the nether/go far enough away that the chunk unloaded. got in a habit of checking it when i came home. today it is just gone. checked entire track it's just gone. this bug seems to have been reported 1st almost 4 YEARS AGO. COME ON MOJANG!
edit this is on mobile version of bedrock 1.16 latest update btw. irritation at the length of time this bug has persisted made me forget that could be useful info

I've also had this issue a bunch, and I think it may have just claimed my Dragon Egg, which I can never get back

Bedrock, Realms (Xblox & PC), v1.16+ to 1.16.2
I have a number of machines and mostly all the hopper mine carts stay where they are supposed to, I don't travel to the nether, no portal within 10000 blocks, one machine in particular is an auto smelter with to hopper carts feeding mats/fuel separately. One of these carts disappears routinely, its costing me alot of metal an wood to replace constantly (not to mention the maintenance of mining into the machine and restarting it) as I'm playing a minimal "no overground" survival.
The one that disappears is on the longer outer track however I'm sure I carefully chunk aligned the machine. I will have to replot the chunk borders (strict no cheat, survival realm but I can take a local copy) to check.
It seems to happen when I log out and the realm saves (no active users) or reloads from a saved state (I am the first user logging in), when I leave the game outside of the simulation distance.
It certainly feels chunk border and/or chunk load/unload related. I'll come back to you with confirmation of chunk boundaries and 1.16.4 observations

On xbox, version. 1.16.40 i have the same issue, the minecart disapear with full kelp inside 😱 no corner only straith rail, plz patch this

Affects 1.16.200.55 Beta.

I have a little further info. Of the 2 carts in my machine above the inner one is contained in a chunk however the outer one does cross a chunk boundary. Its this one that disappears.
I can compensate as if I exit the game close to both chunks it does not seem to despawn, I would posit that as long as I exit with both chunks in my sim distance (Xbox so stuck to 4) it won't despawn. Perhaps related in a minor way to MCPE-21416 or distinct as this one covers entities traveling in/out of sim distance during load/unload.
1.16.4 Bedrock Realms Server.

(This is not a confirmation of current bug, hoping to narrow down the result)
In the past I've had minecarts that appear to be gone, but have just fallen through the rail. 1 Block under, usually on uphill/downhill slope rail, it seems to glide into the block below, but content remain, and previously on powered rail only.
I'm wondering if you you could confirm disappearance?
"if, survival world" Create a copy of the world, turn cheats on the copy and enter world.
Go to Minecart rail and type the following command: /testfor @e [type=minecart]
"if, Found Minecart" is the return result, narrow the result down by adding a radius search to the command: /testfor @e [type=minecart, r=20]. Fly the rail track until you find it by narrowing down the r= selector, maybe start at 100..
"if, no target match selector " maybe fly further along the track, as the minecart may not be in a loaded chunk.
So if you find it dig the track location it possible to be under the rail 1 or 2 blocks. Then cords on, right down cords and return to survival world where your minecart possibly is and let us know your result.

Absolutely, in no way possible, is this resolved. This is still an issue today, in the 1.17 caves and cliffs update. Woke up this morning, logged on, and the minecarts in my sugar cane farm despawned for the second time now. Evidently this has been an issue since 2016 and is also affecting the despawns of NAMED mobs too.
This doesn't just happen when the game crashes. It can happen when logging off via the save and quit option and sleeping too far away from the chunk the minecart is on. Same with named mobs. It's been an off and on issue for 5 years now, and it NEEDS to be fixed. I just lost a named creeper that I spent forever trying to stuff into a display case in my house, and today it despawned despite being there fine for the last 2 weeks.

I was riding my horse when my internet/cable went out. The next day afternoon, I went back on and my horse was gone, no one had been on the realm since my internet kicked me off _ I just tamed it too..

Irritated Gamer: that's MCPE-51837, not this bug.

@GoldenHelmet Thanks, I have you know I spend like 30 minutes putting in all sorts of keywords to find the right ones, and fail anyway. Thank you for sending me to the right ones. 😅 I gone did it again.

I have been having the same issue for well over a year / two years now and did mention it in the past I believe. My Minecarts / Minecart Hoppers are always disappearing. I generally always log out of the game properly. I am in the game and notice they are gone although I don't always notice straight away. I am trying a technical build and the minecarts are essential. I have 3 - 4 different minecart hoppers that constantly disappear all in different locations, although nearby around 50 - 100 block radius. I have even tried naming them and that didn't work. I have lost two today and two in the same area over the last couple of days. I can't afford the iron and I want to make something that will spread quite far and involves many minecarts connecting different systems. Feeling like giving up. I can't work within a specific chunk which is hard on Bedrock survival no cheats anyway as the system will need to cross over 100's of blocks when finished. Steps to reproduce are, I have no idea why it happens. I log in and notice they are missing. Observed results are my Minecart Hoppers randomly and seemingly for no reason just vanish, all minecart hoppers I think. Expected results are the MH remains on its loop of track returning from point A - B with its load continuously. please help.

Affects 1.17.41

Not playing on BETA. Playing on xbox one thanksgiving week 2021, I have multiple hopper minecarts on rails looping to pick up various items, logged out properly, logged in later properly and both the moving carts with hopper and the stationary one above the chests were gone IN ADDITION TO ALL my villagers, horses and sheep, some had nametags, some did not. i have repaired everything, and the minecarts still are randomly vanishing. I am saddened to see that this has been going on for years it is so frustrating having to go back and redo everything if you want it to work!
Reply from @unknown: you experienced MCPE-144208, which is fixed in 1.18.0.
