I don't believe MCPE-158215 is resolved on 1.20.10. MCPE-158215 When this occurs, it is generating a crash or unrecoverable freeze. I've experienced this 3 times in a week on a shared server. It randomly occurs when teleporting from a Nether portal to the Overworld. It only happens when there are multiple users on the server. The Nether portal is located at Y11 connected to an Overworld Portal located at y-59. When entering the Nether Portal, the game hangs at the "Building Terrain" dialog. The game either crashes or I have to close it. When I re-log, I am at the Nether Portal coordinates in the overworld at Y11. No overworld portal is created. The first time I was teleported into solid rock and was suffocating. I've since cleared the area but a portal still does not generate. I can ask the server owner for a world export if needed but I have not been able to intentionally reproduce this.

I have had this several times, in recent weeks. Occasionally getting stuck on the building terrain screen and clearing being killed in the nether. If I die the game respawns at my bed and all my gear is lost. 1 in 5 in appear correctly in the nether. 3 in 5 I crash out and am at the wrong coordinates after reloading the game. The rest of the time I die in the process.

@growlingbrain It may help if you go to the coordinates in your destination dimension and clear an area. I was teleporting into solid rock and dying before I understood what was happening. I was teleporting from the bottom of the Nether to the Overworld when I would get stuck on Building Terrain. So, the failed teleport would put me very low in the Overworld in solid rock. I cleared out an area at my nether portal coordinates in the overworld and built a bubble elevator to the surface. I also left a chest with supplies to help with trip back to my base. It doesn't fix the problem but I don't lose my armor anymore.

@Mach
For clarity, this happens exclusively when going from the Overworld to the Nether. I cleared a spot in the the Nether where I show up after a crash, but most instances when I die it seems (based on sound effects) that I am being killed by skeletons and ghast.

Can you upload/share the world affected, so we can reproduce the issue?

Here's a couple of clips of it occurring during a live stream by another player, Skyfire.

I can provide a link to this world download but is there a way that I can send it to you without posting it here? BTW, it's 1GB.

Not that I know of, unfortunately. Thank you for videos though!

My issue is strangely the exact opposite of Mach's I attached a video of it happening.
World was to large to attach

I've almost recreated this bug, but I can't quite on Xbox. But from what I've found so is that it is an extension of MCPE-146959. Everyone that has experienced this bug on the couple servers in play on were on PC with render settings above 25 chunks. I'll post the video I have trying to recreate it with a 16 chunk render distance. I got the extremely long loading screen, and popped a totem like I had suffocated, then was immediately teleported back to the nether.

@growlingbrain: This bug doesn't only happen when going from the Overworld to the Nether; It can also happen when going from the Nether to the Overworld.
I was playing in a server and I built a portal in the Nether to go to a Trail Ruin (whose portal coordinate is 824,72,-1448 in the Overworld and 103,120,-181 in the Nether). After I went into the portal, the game froze at the "Building Terrain" screen. I waited for almost 5 minutes and had to close the game. When I joined in the server again, I found I had fallen into an ocean (at 103,40,-181), and was killed by a Drowned with its trident.
@unknown Could you upload the world to any file sharing site (e.g., OneDrive) and link it here?

Here's a link to the world. It's 1GB in size. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Z_sJJ0STFKsusYNx-bCKvKEEkWQECDhM/view?usp=sharing
Please post here when you have retrieved it.

in reference to drwise's comment the problem does seem to go away if I lower render distance to below 25 chunks.....

We're experiencing this issue frequently. Bedrock Dedicated Server 1.20.10.1 hosted by Shockbyte. For us, it happens when going from the Nether to Overworld. Using established portals; meaning the game is loading already generated chunks.

Bug happened again while another user was streaming. Clips attached. Server had 5-10 users actively playing. User complains about server lag shortly before bug occurs. User had not experienced this bug before. This was nether->overworld travel.

Hi
What's your procedure to update server? Does this issue occur with behavior pack disabled?

Falling in the nether after experiencing the portal bug.

This happens daily to multiple people on our server. Both going from nether to overworld and overworld to nether. When in nether and entering portal and game freezes, you are teleported to the nether using whatever coordinates the overworld portal is at. I was teleported to -3300, 1200 in the nether after the freeze, in a solid wall. I’ve been teleported the opposite way, and been falling from the sky at whatever coordinates the nether portal would be, only I’m in the overworld falling. I play on Xbox but people on the server play on all devices so this is a bedrock bug across all devices.

I'm experiencing this on Windows 11, not on a server. I have a 1000 block nether railway which i had been using without issue until the start of this week. Now one particular portal always results in the game getting stuck/crashing at "Building Terrain". I've tried many different ways of destroying and recreating the portal, both in the overworld and the nether, but nothing fixes it. I have only tested one other portal in my world, and it works without issue. After killing Minecraft and restarting it, i'm in the nether, but at my overworld co-ordinates, in the middle of some netherack. This sounds to me to be exactly the same problem everyone else is having.

Still experiencing this on my server with the most recent 1.20.32 update.

So I was experiencing this bug more frequently recently in both directions. I dialed my render distance back to 12 chunks. I haven't gotten the overworld to nether bug since making the change. I still occasionally get the nether to overworld bug.

I have experienced this bug on an iPad on a server.

I experienced this both before and after updating to 1.20.32, before the update I had only experienced the issue travelling to the overworld, and after that to save suffocation I cleared the blocks out in the overworld where I had been spawned after relogging. After 1.20.32, I entered a nether portal in the overworld and the game hung, after waiting a considerable time I restarted the game and was dumped at my overworld coordinates in the nether, I was falling and landed in a soul sand valley just blocks away from a drop in to lava, i was then immediately attacked by a relentless succession of ghasts and skeletons, only just managing to burrow into the terrain before dying!
Since then I have and will continue to avoid nether travel now until this bug is resolved!

Important information and workaround found!
This bug was present in the game over a year ago and was fixed until recently when it was brought back. This bug, along with the second portal bug that causes suffocation damage or straight-dropping people in lava lakes way underneath the portals https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-28765 that has to be reopened, is detrimental to the people on the server I own and play.
Through a lot of experience with this bug and with the help of spectator accounts, we figured:
While the player is stuck in the "generating terrain" screen, they have already teleported to the wrong location (same coordinates in OW or Nether as the portal they've entered). The player appears floating in the sky/inside of solid blocks until relog;
Way to save a person: if someone loads the area with the portal of the destination, the player who's stuck will be safely teleported where they were supposed to go in the first place! (they have to stay in the "generating terrain" screen and ask for help through other means of communication like Discord);
So, it appears that the game fails to load the area of the world in the other dimension, hence causing the loading issue.

I have experienced this same bug on my single-player world (Bedrock v 1.20.41). Occasionally I am teleported to a location other than the matched portal. At first I thought it was the eating while using a portal bug, but I definitely wasn;t eating the last few times. I'm not complaining, as the last time it put me near an undiscovered spawner.
I hadn't encountered this bug before the 1.20.41 update.

This has not been resolved & is still ongoing. Just yesterday (11/18/23) I experienced this bug. I was going through my home portal from the Nether side & I got stuck on the "Building Terrain" screen. I had to force close the game & when I logged back in I was in the middle of the Ocean. People are also experiencing the reverse version when trying to enter the Nether. This is a VERY annoying issue. Please Mojang resolve it for us! (Also to add a little further context, this is happening on a multiplayer server).

Just started happening this morning. Tried going from overworld to nether. It locked up and after I closed Minecraft and went back in, I was approximately 2000 blocks away from the portal.

This just happened to me on my Realm. (Current Version 1.20.50) Went into my Nether Portal at -13171, 64, -946 in the Overworld, got stuck at "Building Terrain" had to force quit.
Have used the portal safely many times. Only thing I noted as different, was eating when I went through.
When I loaded back in I was at those coordinates, but in the nether.
EDIT: Another Realm member confirmed this happened to them earlier this week. Not sure if they were also eating, but it was a different Nether Portal with the same result. Teleport to Overworld Coordinates, but in Nether Dimension.

I have just experienced this bug on my realm.
Game froze with the Building Terrain message while going from nether to overworld. I wasn't doing anything unusual as I went through the portal (wasn't eating or similar)
When I logged back in I was in the overworld, suffocating in stone at the same co-ords I had been in when exiting the nether. (same as OP) There were no other players online. Similarly - since the latest update we have also been experiencing suffocation damage when going through portals (nether to overworld) where we have been spawning a few blocks under the portal when arriving in the overworld.

This has been happening on the server I play on very frequently. The last straw for me was going through a portal from overworld to nether and winding up below the nether void (see attached picture). I was able to "fly" with elytra toward the spawn coordinates and eventually was able to die.

The same bug is happening on the realm I play on. Happened to me twice today going from Overworld to Nether and going from Nether to Overworld. I was the only one on the server.

This has been happening occasionally to me for months now from nether -> overworld, and for the first time this week from overworld -> nether, transporting me 15,000 blocks away in the nether from my intended destination. The frequency has increased drastically lately. It happens when I'm alone in the realm just as often as when other people are there. It has happened three times today alone. The game is unpleasant to play as long as this is a problem.

The past month or so both my friend and I have experienced getting stuck on the building terrain screen when exiting the nether, just to be dropped to our deaths at world spawn when we re launch the game.

This continues to happen and has caused a lot of issue for people - yesterday I ended up 5000 blocks away from my portal in the nether, suffocating in a wall. Many of our servermates are getting tired of it and it's causing play to really slow down. Players have lost gear, life and etc. unnecessarily.

I experienced this on a singleplayer world on both ends; I somehow escaped suffocating to death in the Nether despite not knowing what was happening. I died in the overworld but my stuff was close to an old base so nothing frustrating happened, but it was a big scare and I could of easily lost my progress had my coords been any different. Safe to say that going trough portals is not recommend until it's fixed, which really sucks because it locks out a lot of items.

Yesterday a member of a server I play on used a nether portal at bedrock in the overworld, with render distance at the server max (32 chunks) and the game froze. When she loaded back into the world, she was free falling, and had to be teleported by an admin. Pic for reference, notice the y level. This bug still seems to be aggravated by render distance, I advise a render distance of 20 or less, after the experimenting done on servers
