When max frame rate is set to something other that unlimited, switch cannot log in to Microsoft/Nintendo account

When launching Minecraft, the game does either one of a couple of things. Either it will take forever to log into my Nintendo account, not do it, then show error code 2306-0502 "A server communication error has occurred. Please try again later." If that doesn't happen and it does successfully log into my Nintendo account, then it will have trouble logging into my Microsoft account and the same error will appear after a couple minutes. If they both log in, then my skins won't load and realms and servers won't work either. The same error appears after a short while as well. No matter what happens, a server communication error occurs and nothing works.

Usually, Minecraft for Nintendo Switch takes forever to log into my Microsoft account and the skins take a bit to load as well so that's not out of the ordinary. What is odd though is that now it never loads and shows the error. This has happened before in past updates throughout the years but not like this, because even after closing and reopening the game, it doesn't seem to fix it.

When I click "More Info" after getting the error, it says "The server is operating normally. Please try again later." I've been trying for days now, ever since the 1.20.70 update. Today, the game updated to 1.20.71 and that still hasn't fixed the issue.

After clicking the error to go away, the button "Sign in with a Microsoft Account" appears and a default skin appears in place. When clicking the sign-in button, it does successfully sign in, but the Xbox account avatar doesn't appear and the skin doesn't load.

I'm unable to play realms or servers without this working.

I've tried using different WiFi signal bands (2.4GHz and 5GHz), I've tried downloading the game and checking for corrupt data, and my WiFi speed is fine with ~100 MBPS download and ~15 MBPS upload and a NAT type B, my Microsoft account works because I am able to play with my phone and I know I have Nintendo Switch Online active because I am able to play multiplayer on other games.

Interesting, I'm having the exact same problem with the error.

I moved the save data from the system memory to the SD card and it appears it has taken away those error codes. The game still lags and freezes, but it’s a lot better than before.

I'm having the same issue on 1.21.22. This is a pretty critical bug since i am playing on realms i need the accounts to authenticate properly.

Getting error 2306-0112

After HOURS of fiddling around with the game (including erasing my SIX YEAR OLD SAVE FILE (INCLUDING THE CLOUD SAVE)) I have found a POTENTIAL CAUSE of this bug, and a TEMPORARY SOLUTION that should fix the login issues until Mojang does something about this.

Basically, after playing around with the game and narrowing it down, this bug has something to do with the "Max Framerate (Experimental)" option in the video tab of the settings menu.

HOW TO FIX YOUR GAME IF YOU CAN NOT LOG IN TO NINTENDO'S SERVERS:

  1. Start Minecraft. Wait fifteen seconds for the game to attempt to log into Nintendo Network.

  2. Put your Nintendo Switch console into airplane mode by holding down the home button and toggling airplane mode from the quick menu. Close the quick menu.

  3. Back in Minecraft's title screen, open the settings menu. Navigate to the Video tab.

  4. Switch "Max Framerate (Experimental)" to the UNLIMITED option (all the way to the right)

  5. Back out to the main menu.

  6. Close the game. Turn airplane mode off.

  7. Restart the game. You may have to re-log into your Microsoft Account by going to aka.ms/remoteconnect.

  8. This SHOULD fix the problem. It did for me.

Yes, I can confirm the issue is related to the max framerate setting.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Set the maximum framerate setting to something other than unlimited

  2. Close the game

  3. Launch the game

  4. Wait a while and press anything in the menu

Expected Results:
Nothing unusual happens because you have successfully signed in

Observed Results:
You get an error

Note:
Even if the max frame rate is unlimited, an error may occurs when you're on multiplayer session. About this I still haven't no idea.

I couldn't reproduce the bug in 1.21.40
