Repeating Command Blocks set to Always Active stop working after updating them

After putting a command into a repeating command block set to always active, the command runs like it should. But, when updating the command, it stops working and does nothing. My solution is to ctrl-pick block the command block, break the original one, and place the new one back down. This only happens with always active command blocks as needs redstone ones work properly. If you change it while always active (it stops) and then you change it to needs redstone, then you power it, it runs the new command so when you change it back to always active it runs the new command but if you just flick it between always active and needs redstone, it's still broken. This also happened on the 1.21.30.23 preview.

Confirmed.

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Place a repeat command block

  2. Open the command block GUI and Enter a command in the text field: /particle minecraft:basic_flame_particle ~ ~1 ~

  3. Set the redstone to Always Active

  4. Close the GUI and open it again

  5. Close the GUI again without cancel

Expected Results:
The command keeps running

Observed Results:
The command stops running

Can confirm in 1.21.30! Affects all platforms

Can confirm, this issue is extremely annoying. The only way to make it work again is by turning it off and on again, but of course that's not intended behavior.

Two months later and this is still an issue. Absolutely unbelievable :flag_on:

I wanted to work on a project, so I had to resort to using /reload all, which made the process a bit less tedious, but it’s still really annoying to deal with. I’m hoping that the next update they have will fix this issue, or we’ll have to wait till December, since they’re only going to do 2 more updates this year. (at least from what I heard) /:
