Thanks, i am currently using mcedit to replace all invalid ones with working ones, but is there a faster way?
I have seen this effect be very consistent in various redstone machines. If you have a solid block (ex wooden planks) with a redstone torch on top, and then use pistons to push that block away with a block of glass, the redstone torch will remain on the block of glass.
I have used this in many machines and have never had the redstone torch break.
Even though it is consistent, im pretty sure it is still a bug and the redstone torch is intended to break. I do hope they leave this 'bug' in though, or else i will have to redesign my machines.
Why was this marked as resolved? Just because this bug has always been in minecraft doesnt make it any less of a bug! I highly doubt that mojang intentionally programmed their world generator to create random walls of still water. Furthermore I dont think this would be that hard to fix, all they would have to do is send block updates to the water-source blocks that are along the edge of a body of water. In fact, the updates probably only have to go to the bodies of water that are adjacent to sand/gravel blocks.
oh, just upgraded to 1.4.4pre, and the bug where items cannot be picked up seems to be a lot more common
the piston to push the items up has no delay, the only way to push the items up faster would be to slow the items down. but regardless of whether or not the machine works, items did get stuck in a transparent block, and their behavior was quite unusual. Ive been playing around with the machine and notice that if there is a small spike of lag as an item is moving up through my machine, it will appear to continue moving up, but when the game updates the items sort of teleport off in a random direction. I am very curious if this is reproducible for other people. So i encourage you to try and use the item elevator while a lag machine is turned on (a row of clocked pistons pushing glowstone should do the trick)
In 1.4.2, I build a sheep tower farm that has 2-thick floors of grass. For me the mobs do not sink through the floor of this tower, but instead sink sort of diagonally through the 1-thick wool walls. At any given time less than 1% of the were glitched. The lowest floor of this tower was built at water level over the ocean.
I upgraded to 1.4.3pre and started building another sheep tower to try and improve my design. The lowest level is a 1-thick floor of grass that is raised 5 blocks off the ground of a superflat world. Now at any given time about a third of the sheep on this level are either black inside of the grass blocks or ghosting 5 blocks down on the generated terrain of the world. Higher levels still have a 1-thick floor, but those sheep only do the somewhat diagonal sinking, and very few of these sheep are glitched at a time.
I think the glitch is caused by sheep being able to push other sheep through the walls or floor if they are very densely packed in an area. And a sheep, on its own, seems to be able to start sinking after getting stuck in a transparent block such as glass panes or fences/fencegates
no i dont get particles at all no smoke or hearts they dont run away upon punching or if i walk up to them (they still look at me when i hold fish)
