This is a picture of the alt-F3 menu showing the impact of placing and breaking wooden planks.
This picture is made in 1.17, on a server with the following Video Settings:
Graphics Fabulous!
Biome blend 5x5 (normal)
Max framerate: unlimited
Render distance: 10 chunks
Vsync: Off
Specs:
Windows 10 Pro N
CPU: Amd ryzen 2600
GPU: Geforce GTX 1050ti
16gb ram, 4gb allocated to minecraft
Server is running with 10gb ram
[media]I have an average of 220 FPS in version 1.16.5.
In version 1.17 I have an average of 110 FPS.
I am running Windows 10 pro.
CPU: Amd Ryzen 2600
GPU: Nvidia Geforce GTX 1050TI, driver version 466.77
Edit: With my normal minecraft settings in a flat world i have an avarage of 40 FPS with constant laggspikes to 0 FPS.
At this time multiplayer has more performance for me, and even there I have bad performance because of https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-123584.
The game in singleplayer has become unplayable for me at this moment. There needs to be done something!
I dont think its weird that people are getting around 100 fps with these settings. I think most people play in normal 1080x1920 resolution. In normal 1080 resolution the amount of FPS will be lower then the 1280x720 resolution.

Can confirm for 1.17
I dont know if it is helpful, but i can confirm this glitch.
I always see it when breaking and placing blocks. Such actions can lead to an fps drop with sometimes more then 15fps.
It is easy to see in the alt-f3 menu. It also seems to get worse every update. I hope the new rendering engine can help the devs fix these issues!
I can confirm this issue.
I have a minecraft server with 6gb ram and 3vcores. The world is more then 300mb, there is much built in it.
When i am online i always have massive fps drops when mining/placing drops.
I tested this out in singleplayer too, the laggspikes are present in singleplayer as well, but acceptable. In the server my whole game almost freezes as effect of the laggspikes.
My specs on my pc are:
GTX 1050ti
Ryzen 2600
16gb ram
Windows 10
I am happy to see the mojang priority to very important, as this issue is very important.
I hope this gets fixes very soon!

Can confirm for 1.16.4 and snapshot 20w45a
Can confirm for 1.16.4 and Snapshot 40w45a. Works when the fire is put on grass too, and works in survival mode.
Can confirm for Minecraft 1.16.3
Can confirm too
Bug is also active in first person.(normal fire animation seen when in blue fire). I would say the solution is just duplicating the fire animation but then with the blue colors.
I created a brand new world in the newest snapshot of 1.16.2 (pre-rekease 1).
The chicken didnt despawn, but still the name of the chicken is not shown. The nametag is given to the chicken (did the /data get command on the chicken). I waited 10 minutes standing in the chunk where the chicken jockey is spawned with the /summon command.
I leaved some screenshots of the data and the tests i did. Hopefully that helps. You can recreate this bug by spawning a chicken jockey with the /summon command, then giving the zombie and the chicken a name, you will not see the name of the chicken, but you will only see the name of the zombie.
I am not using optifine. The chicken just despawned, but i am sure tge name tag was given to the chicken. I am going to test in creative if i can recreate the problem.
Will this bug be fixed in the 1.16 update?
Did it, but didn't work
I tried it but it doesn't works. Not the nativelog only but also 3 maps named 'tmp' , 'runtime' and 'game' comed to the desktop. At the screenshot in the attachment you see the maps.

Minecraft is not freezing but the mouse movements are not flowing. For example, when i place a block 2 seconds later is the block really placed. So, I clicked to place the block and 2 seconds later the block is placed on my screen. When i touch F3+A minecraft is flowing good
Can confirm for 21w42a.
When going to spectator the rods remain cast, also when left clicking you can still see the swing animation in the wire of the rod.
Also the sound that you have a fish hanging on the rod can still play.
