I am able to confirm this behavior in 21w40a. Here are some extra details regarding this problem.

The Bug:

minecraft:bubble_pop particles are not produced at the top of bubble columns.

Steps to Reproduce:

• Build the setup as shown in the attachment below.

• Look closely at the top of the bubble column and take note as to whether or not minecraft:bubble_pop particles are produced.

Observed Behavior:

minecraft:bubble_pop particles are not produced at the top of bubble columns.

Expected Behavior:

minecraft:bubble_pop particles would be produced at the top of bubble columns.

Can someone tell me why they keep adding stuff to the game instead of fixing the already existing broken, unoptimized mess?

Because just fixing stuff will outrage a large portion of the community who simply doesn't care about fixes. If you want to rant, do so off tracker, as this is not the place.

On top of minecraft:bubble_pop particles not appearing at the top of bubble columns, the minecraft:block.bubble_column.bubble_pop sound event is never played here and as a result, is unused. Could this report be updated to include this information? I'm more than happy to take ownership of this ticket and update it accordingly to reflect this new information since the current reporter has been inactive for just under a year. If not, updating it would be all good. Thanks in advance. 🙂

I've refined and updated this ticket to mention that bubble pop sounds as well as bubble pop particles are also not produced at the top of bubble columns.
