Large redstone item sorter worked perfectly in 1.5.2 (getting 90FPS+). Now when running the same item sorter in 1.6.1 it causes massive FPS lag, dropping me down 20-30 FPS. It seems like there was major lag introduced with 1.6.1 when it comes to redstone devices. I tried to search for issues for this, but it is pretty difficult to search through the issues to find anything, so apologies if this is a duplicate
Attached is the schematic of the item sorter for drop in to the world. If you need anything else from me let me know.

It does not. If the device doesn't have items being sorted I don't experience any issues that I notice offhand that I can think of, though I will test more tomorrow. As mentioned though, as soon as the device is turned on my fps drops like a rock, which didn't happen in 1.5, just 2 days ago.
This issue is still happening and very very annoying. It is when the sorter is running and not when looking in its direction (unless it's running) it does seem to mainly be when running the item elevator with droppers, though it still lags while items are going from the top chest around the item sorter.
This is a major issue please that does deserve some time being looked into. A lot of people like th enew hoppers and droppers that came out in 1.5, but this has pretty much broken then because of the major FPS drop.

No Anon, it did not. I do not lag with the new patch at all "except" when I activate the droppers and hoppers.
Also, I tried out in the current version of the pre-release and it still isn't fixed. I hope this makes it into the pre-release as it is a huge issue for anyone using droppers, hoppers, and various other redstone devices.
Hmm... Now that I've gotten to MC-42373, I wonder if it's the entire cause of this issue, or if there are still other hopper/comparator performance issues. I initially tested the sorter within the spawn chunk radius, because I made a test world just to test it, and didn't have any reason to travel elsewhere. @unknown, was your sorter close to the world spawn point? I wonder if the location-dependence of this could explain why my other tests didn't produce any noticable lag.
The similarity between the "root.gameRenderer.level.updatechunks.sort" on the debug screen taking up so much time, and "Warning: Clientside chunk ticking took xxxx ms" reported in the development console on MC-42373 seems like it's worth looking into. I wonder if that same warning would appear in the console for the sorter here.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases. If this has been done, we can reopen the issue.
Keep in mind that the "Resolved"-Status on this ticket just means "Answered", and that we are waiting for further information on whether this issue still exists or not. We will reopen it as soon as the requested information has been deliviered.
