i just did the identical tour on a single player copy of the same map in snapshot 13w36a starting with only half a hunger depleated and i didn't lose any more hunger points at all. i also noticed that in 13w37b my hunger depleats even while completly standing still witch makes afking now deadly.
i just did some more testing and found out that it is only on happening on a mulitplayer server, it seems that normal walking in multiplayer uses as many hunger as sprint/jumping in single
Can confirm this. Obviously it is difficult to prove, but on my multiplayer server we have a long tunnel which we typically sprint jump across. In 1.6.2 it was possible, after a piece of beef, to reach the other side without losing hunger. In the snapshots, it is guaranteed that we will need to eat once or even twice before we even reach the other side.
This is still an issue in 1.13.1 on a vanilla server with a vanilla client.
I can not understand how this can be marked as "working as intended". This is clearly a bug, since it only happens sometimes and not always.
The bug description clearly says "Hunger drains while standing still".
I can see many videos and people talking about draining your hunger when running, walking, standing close to mobs or whatever in the comments and that could be working as intended. But I repeat: the title of this post is: "Hunger drains while standing still". The standing still part is the main part here.
It has happened to me many times. Today for example I went away from my computer with full health and full HP standing in my base that is fully lit up with no entrance except for an iron door. Its no way that a mob could get in and there is no water or anything else pushing me around in there. When I came back like 20 min later I was dead and it said ".... starved to death" on the screen.
When I after that tried to reproduce it, my health wont drain at all, so it doesn't always happen. As I said before. Inconsistent behavior when doing NOTHING can not be "working as intended" unless its something totally unexplained going on like "You only lose health when its fullmoon on a tuesday" (clearly ironic here)Â

Worth noting is that death from starvation like this has happened on both normal and hard difficulty on the server (I have not tested easy).
Not seeing an issue in the video. The natural hunger is stacked with your running, draining the bar quicker. Have you tested this in 1.6.x?
