Tamed dog online/offline

I tumbled upon a little annoying bug with the dogs. That if you play Singelplayer offline and tame a dog, it follows you by your name(right?) which in offline mode is Player. But if you then log in and then get your actual username, the dog wont follow you, even if you still got the same inventory. I suggest that you make a new point for the dog to identify the player.

Exactly. Found this out the hard when when playing MC on a new box without an internet connection. Also see MC-5482.

Reported this issue and it say that it was a copy of this. Thankfully I usually play while offline. Very annoying.

Has this not been fixed yet I guess? I had this issue in one of my games, but I just tested it after update and it wasn't an issue. But I am afraid to sit my dogs if this is still a bug.

No, Justin Torres. This is still an issue. Don't be scared to make your dogs/cats sit. For example, If you make them sit while online, they will only not stand back up if you are playing offline. Or if you make them sit while offline, they will only not stand back up if you are playing online.

This issue is still in the newest snapshot

That name identify thing should not preset in singleplayer.

This is still happening in 1.6.4. Also now that my cats have gotten up due to an attack on me, they will not sit down again. So all my dogs are permanently sitting, and all my cats are permanently not-sitting. I'm not sure which is the more annoying!

Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 14w08a? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

I just downloaded that dev snapshot and ran a test. The bug appears to be fixed.

I can successfully:

  • Create a world offline, spawn a wolf, tame it, color its collar, save/quit. Then reconnect to the internet, log in, play the same world, and sit/unsit the dog and it recognizes me as its owner.

  • Spawn a wolf while online, tame it, save/quit. Then disconnect from the internet, play offline, play the same world, and sit/unsit the dog, and it recognizes me as its owner.

I have not tested cats.

Tamed creatures in 14w11b haven't updated to use UUIDs yet. I would consider that a bug.
