Possible Workaround
This issue might be fixed by ensuring you have installed the latest graphics driver.
When I open my Minecraft launcher, I get a blank grey screen. All the buttons and everything is still there (I can tell because my cursor changes shape) but I can not tell what I am pressing. I have tried:
reinstalling Minecraft,
using the compatibility option,
disabling it from all security features
restarting my computer.
I have a hp laptop, windows 7. Please help quickly
P.S. My computer is extremely old and is full viruses that we are trying to get rid of.

Can you try turning on windows xp service pack 2 compatability, loading up the launcher. Then go back into the menu and turn compatibility mode off.
This is hardly a fix or a workaround, just me trying to jig it into action 😛

I just lanched the launcher and here is the log i got ( i have same issue )

Unfortunately, my request MCL-16302 was closed. but in my case the compatibility mode works. But the current launcher also shows a black screen, too. You can find a log file in the ticket for analyzing the black screen

Just updated my amd graphics drivers and it fixed the problem

Me and one of my friends have had this on Windows 10, but never on macOS or Linux. A fix is to rename the .minecraft folder to .minecraftold (you will have to transfer your worlds and settings). This will cause the game to make a new .minecraft folder, so it is something to do with the game folder.

I closed and reopened the launcher and it worked for me :/
