Windows: "Java(TM) Platform SE has stopped working" on game startup

Possible fixes

  1. Run the Launcher as Administrator (right click -> Run as administrator)

  2. Try a malware scan:

    1. ADWCleaner is an utility to clean a PC which is infested with malware. Download it here: https://toolslib.net/downloads/finish/1/

    2. Run a Scan, Clean anything it finds, restart the computer

  3. If that doesnt fix it, use the old launcher:

    1. Go to https://minecraft.net/en-us/download/alternative

    2. Download the second one

  4. If you have a nvidia GPU, try the fix in MC-112780

  5. If still crashes, go to community support with the crash log

  6. Close Discord, see MC-124460

  7. See MCL-6550 for other potential fixes

New launcher will not get my Minecraft to get passed MOJANG logo after pressing PLAY. Shows me that Minecraft is Not Responding, and close it out showing an error of Java Platform SE Binary is not responding. Reinstalled newest version of Java, uninstalled and reinstalled Minecraft, upgraded my laptop from Windows 8 to Windows 10 and I still cannot get passed the MOJANG logo still. I have no idea what else to do to resolve this issue other than going out and wasting a ton of money on a new laptop. In conclusion, new launcher has caused me to no longer play Minecraft on my laptop, as the old version worked perfectly fine before the 2.0.806 launcher update.

I'm having the same error. Sometimes I can load a server then it crashes.

This may be caused by broken Nvidia graphics drivers.
Please check if the hotfix of MC-112780 fixes that probkem.

This laptop does not have Nvidia graphics. Its an AMD based laptop. Colton, I cannot even access the main menu of Minecraft

Exact same problem I am experiencing.

Having similar issues, but I do not get the "Not responding", Minecraft just terminates itself. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ubqxBd10nqk

@unknown This is caused by broken Intel graphics drivers, see MC-32606

Honestly at this point I really wish I didn't buy this game.

The old launcher just makes single player too laggy to play, and I shouldn't have to play on the old launcher.

The new launcher worked for the first couple of days before that SE binary crap started to happen. Tried about six different ways to fix it. None of it work or I wouldn't be here.

Here my debug info. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1CfSJnBjuQ-NSWxPZuqnHW6Tvje70LKYJKzrCgVQhbAY/edit?usp=sharing

POSSIBLE FIX

Disclaimer ahead: I'm a computer science student. I have knowledge and experience in testing software. I was trying to fix the issue for multiple hours over the course of two days. I can pretty much exclude graphics card driver problems and Java Runtime Engine problems. As far as I can see it doesn't even really matter what Java version you have installed by yourself since the Minecraft launcher downloading a version of it on its own.

I had all the usual problems stated here:

  • Installing the Launcher to different directories (recommended and custom on two different drives)

  • Installing a version of the game to different directories (recommended and custom on two different drives)

  • Updating NVIDIA Graphis Driver for GTX 1060

  • Updating Intel Graphics Driver for Intel HD Graphics 530

  • Deleting everything (also .minecraft in %appdata%)

What surprisingly fixed the issue for me afterwards was launching the MinecraftLauncher.exe in administrator mode. I just got curious and I knew that in rare occasions this is a common fix for software problems. I launched it multiple times after finding this out in both administrator mode and non-administrator mode and every time I didn't the game crashed on launch.

I hope this is a valuable addition to this problem and not a duplicate. Nevertheless, please add this workaround to the above ticket so people can see it more easily.

EDIT:

Nevertheless, I would recommend everyone to update all drivers and reinstall the game completely including wiping the .minecraft folder. The problem may have something to do with it anyways.

The error this report is based on is too generic, and in most cases a technical support issue, which we do not handle on the bug tracker. Please use Community Support to help solve your issue.

If you can provide further information than the "Minecraft has stopped working" window, please create a new report, and don't forget to include your launcher_log.txt.

What I did to resolve the issue is by deleting the ".minecraft" folder. Credit to Fabian Fritzsche's advice!
