Xbox: No response when pressing some or all buttons on the controller

Mojang Studios Note

Thank you for your patience while we continue to work on addressing the issue raised here. Please be assured we are actively looking into a solution and apologize for any inconvenience caused.

From the comments, it appears that it can occur when other devices are connected to your console; unplugging or disconnecting any devices and then restarting your controller might be a workaround.

Please remember that this is not a support forum. If you want to discuss this among yourselves, please use other sites, such as Discord or Reddit. If you want to discuss it with Mojang, you should contact the Community Management team on Discord or their Twitter accounts. Comments here should provide new information for the developers, and we also welcome sharing workarounds with each other, but excess chatter will be removed.

The game loads to the menu and all the buttons on the controller work except the A button so I can't select anything. Controller works on Xbox menu and other games. Tried other controller, same issues. Tried holding down power button to shut down and unplugging console for a few hours, same. Reinstalled the game (twice), same

As of Oct 10th 1:36pm this is still a problem on 2 of my xboxes

So one thing that is very aggravating but helpful. If you have another xbox or Playstation profile you can use that.only problem is is that all ur stuff and all ur worlds won't be there.

Seems like there was a patch or something that went out. When I tried loading it up yesterday I was able to play as normal.

On mine it will launch and play fine early in the morning for some reason but during the day and at night it will not.

hi i found to make mine work i had to unplug my usbs cause it was registering  my head set as player 1 for some reason and then i plugged my keyboard to my xbox and hit the enter button to close it out and then hit play game and when to home screen turned off controller and unplugged keyboard and when i opened it back up controller was working fine after that. so i hope my comment helps others as well might not solve the bug but help bypass it

I found that if you plug in a mouse to the Xbox and click on play in the menu and mes switch it a little you can just bypass not being able to press anything on your controller in the menu and play your world's

So i came up with a similar issue for this.

Im using a USB controller as the main controller and a wireless controller as copilot.

No issues with the xbox or other games but in minecraft it wont recognise it. If i unplug the USB remote the wirless works fine.

Weirdly enough, it allows me to connect as player 2 and then the controller work fine as that second player.

Having this issue on Windows 11 with a wired controller.

For those users still experiencing the issue, you may wish to check that you have installed the most recent firmware updates for your devices, such as headsets by Turtle Beach. Please let us know any details further to this issue if updating the firmware doesn't help, to help us reproduce and diagnose the problem.

Judging from MCPE-163023, sounds like this might still be an issue.
