When you're holding a locator maps and then travel away from the center of the maps for around 320 blocks (Level 0), 703 blocks (Level 1), 1470 blocks (Level 2), 3004 blocks (level 3), or 6072 blocks (level 4), the pointers will no longer visible on the maps
Steps to reproduce:
Create a New World, enable Fly mode, then TP yourself to the center of the world:
/tp @s 0 140 0
Give yourself a Empty Locator Map, and then create it
Run one of these commands based on Zoom Level of the Locator Maps you're using:
Level 0:
/tp @s 320 ~ ~ 0 90
Level 1:
/tp @s 703 ~ ~ 0 90
Level 2:
/tp @s 1470 ~ ~ 0 90
Level 3:
/tp @s 3004 ~ ~ 0 90
Level 4:
/tp @s 6072 ~ ~ 0 90
Expected results:
The pointers is visible
Observed results:
The pointers no longer visible

The indicator is probably supposed to be a smaller dot when the player is farther away. The small dot has always existed on \vanilla\map_icons.png, so maybe the UV is incorrect.
I would like to point out that this behavior is the normal behavior for locator maps in Java Edition. This bug report along with MCPE-184843 means that the behavior of the player marker on locator maps is currently fully in parity with Java Edition. Additionally, this behavior does NOT affect explorer maps, only locator maps created by players.
I have noticed for several updates - possibly as long as 6 months that the maps have changed to be more like Java? I am not sure if this is an error or on purpose, but please put it back. I haven’t heard anything on the MC update channels about it.
Expected behaviour:
Maps regardless of locator or not, show the arrowed cursor in the corner of the map you are using. The cursor points to the position you are facing so you know where you are in relation to where you are heading on the map
- no matter where you are in the world be it 40k blocks away or more.
** Images show the original style, cursor changes direction with the player both on and off the map location.
[media][media][media]New behaviour:
Cursor is now a dot - so you have no idea which way you are facing.
Cursor vanishes when you are far away - making it impossible to use the map.
** Image shows no marker on the map because I am apparently too far away.
[media]This is a huge issue for me - I use maps all the time and now most of them are useless as they are too many blocks away. If this is being changed for parity, please match Bedrock’s version to Java and make their maps useful, instead of ours redundant.
Thank you
