Render Distance resets to max on Windows

Occasionally after closing and opening Minecraft Windows with a lower render distance set, you may find your render distance reset back to the max (96)

I believe this is the Nvidia App causing this issue since it updates the Minecraft preferences to what it believes they should be set to when you launch the game.

Happening in 1.21.72 hotfix, more frequently this time.

Happens for me on multiple computers. Screen animations toggle resets as well.

If you have a NVIDIA graphics card, check that the NVIDIA app is not set to “optimise” games or Minecraft. If it still persists, try to hide the game.

In the NVIDIA app, you have a list of games. Select Minecraft, then click the three dots on the right, and then click Hide Program. To find the game again, you have to go to "Hidden" in the filter in the list.
