Converted world spawners do not spawn anything.

Any spawners in worlds converted from Console Edition contain empty cages; therefore, nothing spawns.

Modded villagers that sell mob spawenrs (from modded worlds that are converted from xbox one edition) also make the game crash when going near them now. Cant even get into that modded villagers inventory, cant even get close enough to see him completely. Think the disappearing empty cages has something to do with it in the new version as the previous version on console had pigs inside by default. Now that the pigs arent in there anymore i think thats what makes the modded villager crash when getting near him.

Having this issue as well. This is in a converted xbox one world. This skeleton spawner was working prior to conversion and was used as an xp place. It worked for maybe the first day and then stopped working. We went into a new place in our world, outside of where we had ever been on xbox one version and found another spawner. This was a zombie spawner. I noticed it also now has nothing in it as well.

I was able to reconvert my old world and some spawners worked. The problem is that I did weeks worth of mining on the first conversion attempt as I waited for the fix. So either I continue to wait for a fix and continue to mine and build on the first conversion, OR I just scrap weeks and weeks worth of progress and start with a new conversion. I have a feeling that original conversions won’t be fixed for a very long time...if ever.

My skeleton spawner is not working either, tried everything. Tried another skeleton spawner and it was also empty. I am 126 hours in on this world on the bedrock edition, so by no means a recent conversion. Ibwould love to get it working again because me and my Friends have invested hundreds of hours in this world...

I have 5 spawners in my xbox one converted world that are not working. 400MB save game, almost 1000 hours in this world. They are all empty. Were working for quite a while. I decided to go ahead and develop the 3 that were close together - all are now empty.

Getting very tired of this - you guys broke this almost a year ago, finally fixed, now broken again in the bedrock version. Get some new programmers - or at least test your code before releasing. Sorry if this sounds rude - look at it from the point of consumers/customers.

Program Managers should be saying this - not me. If they are forcing you to release untested code, get some new Program Managers.

Playing on my free trial realm because local is too unstable.

I attached 3 files.
1) skeleton spawner - empty
2) cave spider spawner - empty
3) cave spawner - less than 100 blocks from 4 dead spawners - never developed and still has cave spider inside.

Most? of these worked yesterday before spending 12 hours on cleaning up sorting and esthetics

Please start testing your releases better.

Update:
Just went into my world and changed to creative mode and placed a skeleton egg into skeleton spawner and cave spider eggs into respective spawners. (this is a triple spawner I found under an ocean monument).
All spawners worked, so exited and changed back to survival mode. Upon entering world, both cave spider spawners were empty again within 10 minutes.

I too am having this issue (as well as a bunch of other major issues since bedrock).
I never had any spawner block problems on xbone edition. I've been patiently waiting for world conversion to be fixed and I'm having a look through the most successful conversion I've had. I have a few monster spawners and they all worked fine when the game starts, but after some time they stop working and just show an on fire cage with nothing inside, except for a single silver fish spawner (so far). changing the settings to peaceful and back, or quitting and restarting the game doesn't change anything.

I'm having the same issue and I tried all the solutions up above also enderman don't drop ender pearls so I cant advance in the game all I can do is build please fix these issues

Hi, I'm having the same issue. Two blaze, two skeleton, one cave spider, and FOUR zombie spawn blocks, all with farms built around them are dead in the water with nothing but flames inside. I've never been in creative with this world and I've done a lot of building I would like very much not to lose. I've followed the steps others have taken with the exception of switching to creative mode, and have not seen an improvement once. This has been occurring since the issue was first reported here, when the new version was released early. Please fix this soon, I'm losing my desire to continue trying based on my futile efforts to continue without these beloved perks.

Yet another person having this issue. Xbox world converted over after Better Together update. Converted it roughly on January 15. This world has hundreds of hours of prior gameplay on Xbox One Edition.

I had a barricaded blaze spawner saved up for a long time. Finally I decided to build on it. After numerous painstaking trips after dying countlessly, I finally constructed a blaze spawner farm. The farm worked once... dozens of blazes spawned. For some reason it stopped working. I read everywhere and covered all my bases. It's not a mob cap issue, but I get the impression it might still be related to that. Finally I realized the spawner was 1) not making a clicking sound (i.e. an attempt to spawn) and 2) no longer had a blaze inside it. The blaze spawner down the road was still functioning when I went up to it. I attempted to reset on peaceful and go back to normal, to no avail. The spawner is definitely empty.

Strangely, my world is absolutely flooded with mobs. When I was trying to see if this was a mob cap issue, I had 8 wither skeletons and 3 large magma cubes chasing me, with maybe 4 naturally spawned blazes shooting at me. In my main overworld base, areas that never used to spawn mobs are now getting chickens and llamas and cows everywhere. I walked by the river and there were 6 creepers hanging out in the water and a witch on the shore.

One small final note... back in the nether, ghast sounds don't seem to decrease in volume as I get further from the ghast. It seems that only when they de-render do they stop making noises.

This also happened to me. My survival world has been several years in the making. It's quite grand.

My skeleton spawner just stopped spawning skeletons. For awhile the skeleton model inside the block had turned into a pig model. After a couple of months I tried converting my farm to a pig farm but then the little model in the block disappeared all together.

Since then I've waited a couple of more months and figured I'd go hunting for a new spawner. I ended up finding a new skeleton spawner but after a day it too stopped working, no model in the block.

Found another skeleton spawner, same deal, after a day it stopped spawning and lost its model.

Found a zombie spawner, same deal, after a couple of days it stopped spawning and lost its model.

I appreciate that sometimes it's hard to find and fix bugs but from my point of view this one has been in the game for months and months now and appears to have broken all mob spawners for all long time players of the game.

I've tried switching difficulties to peaceful and back to hard. No help. I cannot switch to Creative mode as this world has been created entirely in Survival and I don't want to lose that prestige.

It has been six months and while dolphins and fish are cool it would be great if the basic mechanics of mob spawners would work again. I get the feeling they do not care about long time players and are content to leave spawners broken in converted worlds as long as they are making money on the back end with Mc coins and their servers. Very disappointed that this issue is not a priority and our concerns are are on hold indefinitely 😞

For those who are still having issues with spawners becoming empty in converted worlds, could you please verify when the world was converted over to Bedrock? (eg in which version was it converted)

Many of the conversion issues require the world to be converted using the latest version of the game, in order for the latest fixes to apply. If we have an idea of when your worlds were converted it might help pin down the issue.

Sorry about that. But it is extremely, extremely frustrating to have had to wait this long. Entirely too long to be unable to farm EXP or mob drops.

I don't remember what version of Bedrock I converted my world from the Xbox One into as it was some months ago. Late November; the first achievement I got in Bedrock was on November 21st. So whichever version that was. But it was a converted world. My zombie spawner farm worked for a short while, but then the mobs stopped coming and when I checked the spawner, it was an empty cage. It has not spawned anything since.

After the Christmas Update Screwup of 2016, when bad code in a console version update turned every active spawner into a pig spawner, 4J put out a bug fix that reset all the spawners. Can you guys please put one out for us to fix what got broken? And sometime soon? All my equipment is breaking but I have no way to get the EXP necessary to repair it. I have built so much in that world since converting it that to convert a new copy would lose me months and months of work. And Minecraft doesn't have the ability to transfer equipment/resources between worlds like Terraria does (which I think Minecraft should have).

I haven't found any spawners in the new chunks yet. My base is in the center of the world, an old 360-version world generated prior to TU31 (that added the new types of stone and dirt and changed how biomes generate) and the world around it is a large-size Xbox One version world. I have to travel more than 2,500 blocks just to reach new terrain, and despite having traveled nearly 28,000 blocks to find a woodland mansion I have yet to find a single spawner.

@Mega_Spud, I am experiencing virtually the same thing as Theresa to this point. I previously noted a runaway mob spawning in general (legions of mobs in the nether made venturing in there practically impossible). 

I am not entirely sure what the specific version name/number was when I converted, but what I can say is that I did the conversion in January of this year, 2018, with whatever the latest version for Xbox One was at the time. I have checked on the map post-other-updates, and the spawner is still empty. This is true for numerous spawners where I've built farms, but keep in mind it was not immediately true when I converted the map. I converted the map and the spawner was working fine, to a point where I worked three or more weeks on the map. At some point, things broke.

I can say that the spawner just down the way in the Nether (my first identified problem was a Nether blaze spanwer) does work. However, that isn't a 'new chunk' per say. I've likely rendered that several times before. I rendered it for the first time on my converted world well after this error, though.

I am confused. This issue is resolved if I convert my world using the newer version update. First thing I would like to say is if that is the case this is not good news. Everything I have fixed over the last six months (redstone mechanics and farming have changed in this version and are annoying to convert) was a waste of my time. Next on my mind is if this fix is out why does this post still say unresolved and no fix version?

I converted this world in January and would have to go back to a version before I converted all my redstone just to get mob spawners to work? In the past when spawners had bugs they were fixed by a patch and I didn’t have to start a new world or reload a previous save. I am  losing faith in bedrock edition and do not feel I should  lose half a year of progress when the fix should come instant from an update.

No matter how far I explore in my world mob spawners work when I find them and then they are empty after I save and quit. I have experienced this with three skeleton spawners two zombie spawners and two blaze spawners.

I feel like Minecraft may have had its golden age and now it is time to move on. This setback ,if it can not be resolved without loss of progress, is enough to discourage me from spending more money on this game no matter how much I used to love it. It has been a large inconvenience ever since the bedrock edition launched and an unresolved issue like this is enough to put me off.

More than an inconvenience. This is game-breaking. Enchanting gear for exploring, repairing gear, it all requires EXP. We built farms to collect EXP for repairing and enchanting. When I first started my current world I couldn't find a single chicken anywhere for feathers to make arrows and had to camp skeleton spawners when I found them for arrows. Now none of the spawners work and finding new ones would mean traveling huge distances, with no guarantee that those spawners won't break, too.

It would be different if this had been patched and the spawners reset just after it was discovered, back in September. But now it's been more than six months. Those worlds will have had months and months of work added to them, progress and resources we would lose if we have to convert a new copy of the world every time something goes wrong and fixes only apply to fresh converted worlds. Maybe if we had the ability to move those resources from one world to another it wouldn't be quite as bad, but we can't even do that.

 Your bad code is destroying our gaming experience, and we keep getting told that fixing it would mean rolling back and losing months of work. Figure out a better way to fix it, that won't mean losing everything we've built. Take a page from 4J's book and reset the spawners, with some code that will stop them from breaking again.

 You guys caused this problem. We've waited long enough. Fix it.

Would it be possible to obtain a copy of a world where spawners are becoming empty still?

One way to obtain a copy of the world save is to upload the world to a realm and then download to another device where the save can be exported (Windows 10 or Android, for example.)

EDIT: We now have a copy of a world with a broken spawner, but if you have a save you'd like us to look at feel free to share it, it might help to have a few examples.

Hello, 

I have the issue occurring on my realm with two different spawners.

Some notes on the issue:

  1. I am not sure whether this is a world that was upgraded.

  2. I started the realm after the better together update for cross platform play. I believe I first noticed the issue a couple of months ago. I had a break in playing and only now needed to grind xp

  3. Issue occurs regardless of device (Windows 10, Xbox One S, iOS 11.4). 

  4. When I first encountered the spawners, they were working.

    1. I do not know if they stopped working after a certain amount of time or if it was after x amount of time logging out. 

    2. I do know that for at least one of the spawners, I paused it using tourches. When I found the spawners, I made sure to dig out the surrounding rocks and mark it as a spawner. During that session, the spawner successfully restarted.  

    3. I have checked to make sure there aren't light level issues nor hidden areas were the mobs are spawning. 

  5. Symptoms include a naturally occurring spawner showing flames but no spinning mod inside the cage and no mobs spawning.

  6. I have tried the following troubleshooting steps with no success

    1. Stayed AFK within spawning distance of the spawner

    2. Changed difficulty between peaceful, easy, normal, and hard

    3. Tried changing difficulty, logging out, and logging back in again. 

    4. I have downloaded a copy of the realm and then played on that new non-realm game. The issue persisted. Cannot attach to Jira issue since it is 159 MB compressed. 

    5. If I changed the downloaded world to creative and use a skeleton spawn egg on the cage spawner, a skeleton starts spinning in the spawner and skellys successfully spawn. I assume this means that the spawner looses the attribute of what it's supposed to be spawning.

  7. I am trying to preserve earning achievements in this realm.

  8. I have attached screenshots taken from the downloaded copy that include the spawners and the relative coordinates

Does this bug also affect chunks that are undiscovered? IE. if I move into some far away place I haven't been will those new spawners also be broken?
I can live with my existing spawners being broken but not if it carries forward throughout the whole game world.

I checked on my realm and the spawners are still broken there.

I've attached 3 screenshots. 

  1. Menu screen to show that the version of hte app (and thus the realm) is v1.7.0

Neither have a mob in the spawner and waiting around does not result in any mobs spawning.

I was not able to test downloading the world. (Downloading it on iOS and then trying to play the level results in an error that a newer version of the game saved the world.)

Is the fix that you implemented expected to work on realms worlds?

[edit] Weird update: When i logged out near the spawner and log back in, I respawn in a different place. Able to regularly reproduce the issue.

Here is a quick recap:

  1. There was an issue were spawners ended up breaking and would be empty

  2. Some fix was implemented in 1.6. 

  3. Spawners are still empty on my realm after testing on v1.7.0

  4. After trying to test if the spawners were fixed, there is now an issue were if I exit the realm and log back in while near the spawner, I end up getting loaded in in a different place.
