Ender dragon dies automatically by moving away a lot from the player

In Bedrock Edition on Xbox One, after respawing the Ender Dragon, while destroying the end crystals, the dragon will eventually despawn mid fight. Non destroyed end crystals stay active and the portal in the center opens so you can leave, but no achievement for killing ender dragon pops. This happened multiple attempts, regardless if the player fighting dies during the fight or not.

Yes the same here as well and when you reopen the world it disappears and you can't respawn him without cheats .. and I don't want to use cheats ..
P.S. : I'm in iPhone 6 1.2.16 ( Same Version with 1.2.13 )

Happened to me yesterday, was fighting the dragon, killed me a couple of times and when i came back he was frozen in the middle and the portal that appears when you kill him was there, i was on 1.2.13 on xbox one

Also confirmed happening on Windows 10 Pocket 'Bedrock' edition v1.2.13 (making it a platform independent bug?). Yesterday I had my first encounter with the dragon. After being 'kicked in the but' by enderman two times, I entered the arena with a new tactic, only to find the dragon flapping it's wings with no avail and the return fountain being opened. Credits roll and you return to the overworld but no XP, no egg, not any portal to cities and so no way to obtain shulker boxes (/eleytra) where this mission was all about 😞.

Update

After cranking up the simulated distance to 12 (and wearing a pumpkin against the more dangerous enderman), it was time for a second try using end crystals. Despite being killed once, this time the dragon kept his AI and I was finally able to finish him and one of the city-portals opened. Yes! It was clear that this dragon-defeating was NOT counted to be the first as it only dropped 20 XP and the dragon egg has still not appeared, but I'm happy enough I got my elytra.

When I enter the End, the ender dragon freezes in place and flaps his wings. His health bar disappears and the exit portal opens. I respawned him using the end crystals and the same thing happens. All this on survival. I went on creative on several other worlds and had the same outcome. I kind of feel sorry for him. Relegated to a lifeless abyss of stationary flying. Then I realized I can't get the 50 XP that comes with defeating him.

I have just tested this in 1.4 and can say there have been improvements but it is still not fixed. 

They have fixed it so now when this glitch occurs the Dragon Egg spawns. Thats new and very good. Thank you Mojang for that. Also the End Island Portal spawns now which is one of the best fixes in 1.4. Finally I can go to the End Islands without walking 1000 blocks on a very pecarious bridge.

Now obviously just fixing the Egg and the Island Portal isn’t gonna fix this issue. These are my steps to break the dragon. 1: Travel far away from the End Island, 2: Die, 3: Re-enter the End and see the dragon frozen with the portal open, a dragon egg on top, and an End Island Gateway opened. No XP can be seen.

I really hope this gets 100% fixed in the next update, I can tell there were steps made to fix it because as I was moving away the Ender Dragon remained spawned at all times. Never despawning no matter how far I went away. Previouly the Dragon would despawn after a few hundread blocks.

is not completely resolved as now it happens that when you die and return the portal opens and puts the egg and the dragon if it moves but you can not attack and sometimes the dragon is transferred to the overworld when you die

My "technique" to beat the dragon: 1) Move away from the main island (500 blocks should be ok). 2) Come back. 3) End Credits... 😞 Should be corrected!

tonight (in windows 10 version 1.4.2 in a friends realm) i was going in on a 'scouting mission' limited supplies just to pillar up and destroy the end crystals prior to the actual dragon fight. the dragon spawned and i was doing my thing pillar up explode the crystal and die... I did it this way for 6 times and each time the dragon was still there then on the 7th when I died and came back the Dragon was gone and the gateway to the over-world was open... no XP, no end island portal, no egg... nothing...

I think it has to do with natural mob despawning mechanics. I’ve noticed that if you can get to the dragon fast enough it won’t despawn. It will also despawn if you get too far away.

On an unrelated note, the gear you’re using in that picture is unreccomendable.

I had this happen to me just now on the Xbox One Bedrock 1.4.2 version.

I had died just outside outside the tower circle. I wasn't that far away. Came back and he was floating/hovering on the far side about a block above the ground.

I got to hit him once and then nothing.  I left using the now open portal and came back.  Then nothing. He disappeared and now I got an egg showing up.  I did not however get the little portal to go to the end city.   

I did not receive any achievements, exp or the chance to get dragons breath. 

I have just experienced the exact same issue as Henry reported. Same version, Xbox One. Frustrating! Is there no option to reset the End?

I found this to be the case, too.

to me happens to me now that the first time I enter and the portal is open the dragon moves and can attack me but I can not attack him and when I enter the portal and re-enter the dragon is no longer there ( 1.6)

Had the same bug too. Hope it gets fixed plus the lag in the end on switch bedrock is really bad!

Had this happen yesterday on Windows 10 Minecraft Bedrock 1.4.2.0:

I went to the End. I destroyed 1 End Crystal and was knocked off the ledge by the Ender Dragon and died. Upon returning to the End, I was able to reclaim all of my stuff but the Ender Dragon and it's health bar are gone. The portal home is open around the fountain, there is no egg or End City portal.

I tried using an editor to delete the End data, with the hopes of it being recreated, but all that did was recreate the End sans Dragon.

I did just what Kenneth Quade did too, and the bug happened.

Had this problem two days ago. It's a nightmare.

Same happens with me, If you don't get to the dragon immediately the bossbar dissapears and the portal is open to go back to the overworld. And you just see the enderdragon doing the flying animation and staying in one spot and that's it (like a hologram).

Maybe It's because of the Simulation/Render Distance?

If you respawn the Ender Dragon manually it doesn’t despawn. But it’s still better just to wait for a fix.

I suspect it will be when Update Aquatic Phase 2 comes out or sooner.

Anyone know of a way to reset the End on a Realm?  Other than farming a ton of materials to respawn the dragon and maybe have this happen again :*(

When I went to fight the dragon yesterday, I entered The End a second time and the dragon was gone. The exit portal was there but with no egg.

This issue also affects Minecraft for mobile devices. In addition, even though the exit portal appears, the portals to the end cities do not.

This also happens on Realms. We built a thousand blocks out to find end cities and the Dragon despawned.

I have experienced this issue on Minecraft for Windows 10. The dragon was there when we entered the end but after dying a couple of times when we entered back into the end the dragon was gone. The return portal is there and working but no egg, experience, ..nada.

this is a show stopper. i am surprised they are so relaxed about this problem. i spent a couple of weeks with my son getting ready for the final battle with the dragon.

if you are battling the dragon, then have to save and come back, the dragon disappears. we wasted our time. i am going to delete this game from my tab.

I had the same problem...

It got stuck in one place and couldn’t move. I couldn’t hit it, and the game seemed to think it was already dead. This is on iOS version 1.5.0

Has anyone had a situation occur where the Ender Dragon vanishes as described, but later when exploring the overworld, the Ender Dragon health bar appears on screen and you are attacked? My wife experienced this while traveling through an ocean area of our world. The health bar appeared and it was like she was being attacked from the water. Could a glitch be allowing the Ender Dragon to vanish and appear into the overworld when it appears to have died?

In version 1.6.0.8 when u death on the fight and re enter the portal sometime the ender dragon cannot hit or kill u need die and re enter portal again this bug is like a luck

it just happened to me as well.
Went to the end for the first time in this world with the goal to get some shulker shells.
I got a good whooping and died several times, after the 10th time or so i came back to fight since I just managed to destroy all the crystals. but there was no dragon, end return portal open but no portal to any end city or drop a dragon egg.
will have to open in creative and try to get to the end like this, which is quite disappointing.
no achievement to be gained anymore which is a bummer.

I used to farm the ender dragon / end city in 10-15 minutes and then reset the end.  Now that the Bedrock Edition is out I see that The End is now infinite.  I have spawned the dragon about 5 times.  It disappeared 4 out of 5 times but new portals appear each time.  It's like the game thinks the dragon died.  Sometimes it's health bar will appear while I fly far through The End though.  No more dragon egg even after managing to kill the one that stuck around.  Didn't get much XP from it either. Seems like there is an issue.

I just had this happen on my MCPE world (private so I know no one else killed the dragon). I died and came back and the dragon was gone with just an egg in its place. So now I have to go about making end crystals and try to respawn which I was going to do anyway after I killed the dragon but now I don’t have the Electra and I don’t know if it will drop again if I kill the respawned dragon so I might never get them and have to start all over which is really disappointing.
Please fix this issue Mojang!!

in survival, on bedrock realm, we have connected with multiple players. after entering the end and destroying some crystals, we were mining underground for end stone. suddenly it got quiet and then the health bar disappeard. exit portal was open, no egg. VERY disappointed, because we have worked several weeks without cheating to get there, and now the final fight cannot be done 😞

This problem is in 1.5.2 as well.

This problem is in 1.5.3 as well (IPad). The endragon disappears without killing him, no egg. When i have gone back to my spwanpiont (base), there was a sound of enderdragon and some of my base was destroyed.

On Nintendo Switch, I had a series of crashes (software was closed due to an error) starting shortly after going to the end.  I managed to stop it by going into a different world but when I came back to the end the dragon was gone. No portal no egg.  

Have to build a bridge then.

Playing on Windows 10 edition and Switch edition using a Realm.

Blamed my brother for this, then went through the hassle of respawning it, and it did it again when I played solo.

I have no way to teleport to the end islands

I found both of the dragons, and then made a copy of my world and got the coordinates via creative mode

Minecraft PE on Kindle Fire 1.5.3 (latest as of 8/26/2018).  Upon entering the End for the first time (survival mode, normal difficulty), the portal to return home (end credits etc.) is already open.  The Ender Dragon is there and appears normal, but it disappears if you save&exit after encountering it but before you kill it.  If you save&exit inside the End before the Ender Dragon health bar has appeared, then it will still appear when you re-enter the game.

I haven't killed the dragon yet, but am worried based on other bug reports that it won't drop the egg or open the portals to the outer islands.

PLEASE FIX THIS BUG OR EXPLAIN THE RULES OF END DRAGON SPAWNING/DISAPPEARING!

UPDATE:

While fighting the dragon, after destroying 2 of the crystals, the dragon just disappeared while I was underground.  No trace of it, no end portals, no egg, no experience drop, nothing.  I also confirmed that if I move far away from the dragon, by building a bridge out into the void, that the dragon will disappear this way too.

Also, after destroying 1 crystal I had sealed myself inside one of the obsidian towers and the dragon began flinging me up and down and hitting me- even though I was stuck inside a completely closed off area.  I managed to dig a hole 30 or so block straight down and it was still hitting me and picking me up and throwing me.  I couldn't see it or anything it was just magically killing me.

The End is very broken.  It is causing a lot of frustration for any folks that spend the rather large amount of time required to get this far in the game.  Can Mojang at least acknowledge the problem?  Is anyone even looking at this?

Thanks for your patience whilst we work on getting this issue sorted. We have a fix lined up that will resolve the issue with both the ender dragon disappearing when the player moves away, and that also prevents the dragon from travelling through portals. These fixes will be included in an upcoming update.
