Sometimes when I die in The End then re-enter The End, a new Ender Dragon will spawn, even if there was one already there.

This bug happens when dragons fly through end gateways, and there does not seem to be a max (have gotten 15+) Honestly a very easy bug to take advantage of, and seeing as how laggy and buggy dragons already are, this is an easy way to kill the end dimension.
Step-by-step process to reproduce this bug:
https://youtu.be/y312W9CTLbk
End gateways can't be the only way to cause it, because this happened to me before I had defeated the first dragon which would mean there were no gateways yet. I also didn't get the egg from killing the first dragon. I don't know if the second one broke the egg by landing on the pillar or what. I looked around the end everywhere I could and back at spawn as well. Nothing.
This has happened to me. Xbox bedrock version. The recent changes to the ender dragons attacks are making it near impossible to kill and now I have 3 dragons. Haven't been able to kill a single one. Switched to peaceful and they are still wrecking me. Finally got all the pillars out and haven't been able to kill them. Should have end reset option on bedrock or disable autosave.
I turned back to easy after disabling the pillars I know you can't kill it in peaceful
Recently found another way to dupe dragons, without gateways. If you bridge out to the outer end city islands, without killing the dragon, you will get another.
i was out in the cities for a while, and then a friend hopped into the end dimension to find 2 dragons, so its likely has to do with the main island being reloaded in some way.
Have had same issue playing via XBox One on Realms (Craftwerk); logged out/back in while within a hollowed pillar, may have had an effect? I have at least four at this point. Main thing was happened not only from death and re-entrance to the end.
happened to me as well, although i believe i caused it by exiting and re-entering the world
Still occuring for me in Minecraft bedrock 1.10 on Xbox1.
Have 4 Dragons spawned. Anyway to reset this?
I am seeing it on the same version for switch. I have two dragons in my case. I went in, died to the dragons several times. Then I saved and quit. I made a copy of the save and then loaded the original. The next time I went to the end there was only one dragon again. Not sure if that will help you but thought I’d share.
I finally beat my four by tunneling inside the pillars and taking them out via bow and arrow as they'd fly into or from the center pillar, fwiw.
I just got this bug too! Entered the end and got fairly quickly launched high up and died. Re-entered to retrieve my stuff and there were three dragons (at least that is how many bars I saw)so I've lost all my stuff. Was trying to get the achievements so can't use creative to kill the other ones.....I hope a patch removes them
This has happened to me as well in my first ender dragon fight on my realm forcing me to open a previouse save state before i entered the end. Making it all more of a hard pain by just trying to not die to avoid the bug issue with the ender dragon duplicating it self. Iv had to put my ender dragon fight on hold to re plan my tactics due to this bug
same problem, now i have 2 survival worlds with 3 dragons each.
i cant play mincraft in full. i need shulkers, i need elytra. pls help, i want to get achievements... 😞
Still unresolved issue as of 1.11.1 for Bedrock on X1. Haven't had any luck with copying game files or any of the recent updates.
Oh it's happened to me too, it's terrible, it's so unfair. Makes for a really bad experience
I had this problem too, it happened in the current version 1.11.4 I played on Windows 10.
still affects new pillage update.
any way to reset END please?
IT HAPPENS TO ALL NEW WORLDS, SAME SEED.
Depending on the third party tools available for your platform, some people have been able to reset the End dimension by deleting its chunks from the saved game files. However, Mojang does not recommend or advise how to do this. You may want to ask for advice on a technical support site such as Reddit or the Mojang Discord.
on windows 10 in current version and got this today on my latest world.
Had one spawn when I went to the end and when i died and went back there were 2, Needless to say I died lot and one time there were 3!!! but it seems to have settled on 2 each death I have now, I am playing in easy mode,
Assuming you do fix this, is it likely the fix will repair my end dragons so I just have 1 dragon to fight?
I have this issue as well on 1.11.4 for Android, it doesn't seem to spawn more than three, but then again, I got too annoyed and quit trying before it could even spawn more. It sounds like this has been around for a while, and I'm sure it's made a lot of people mad, is there even any word if this has been acknowledged? This seems like a bit issue to have gone on for so long.

The issue was reported to the developers a few days after it was created. That's all we know, and all we're going to know until it's fixed. In the meantime, the Community Managers can respond to your questions and concerns. You can contact them on the Minecraft Discord.
I hope this bug is getting the priority it deserves, this adversely affects new players and people who are fighting the dragon for the first time. Seeing as how thats "the end" of he game, this is a massive and super frustrating issue to have.
This bug coupled with other dragon issues, causes people to more often than not give up fighting the dragon(s), go to creative to deal with it, or just straight up delete their world :/
Silentwisperer I totally agree with your comment. I managed to kill the 2 dragons eventually but lost so much enchanted diamond gear its not funny, And with iron being in short supply too I lost enchanted gear there too over the void having one dragon virtually defending the other when at nesting point,,, and this was in easy mode. Add this to the fact it takes sooooo much paper to trade with librarians in bedrock as compared to java it has been crippling replacing that lost armour to get enchanted books.
I had even tried going into peaceful first time around to remove the endermen and still couldnt defeat the 2 dragons.
took me til 2 days ago to replace the armour ( i reported this on 25th when i had no armour left) and it took this long playing to replace Armour to go back. So I am back replacing armour at this stage again but fortunately the dragons are dead and i can get shulkers to make shulker boxes finally.
I felt like deleting my world tbh at the time and thought I would have to wait for a fix but realised probably a fix would still leave me with the 2 to fight since they were now spawned so bit the bullet and tried again. lost more diamond armour ( 2 sets) and finally finished them off in my spare enchanted iron armour,
Its a BAD bug and not everyone plays multiplayer for help and many are bad at combat, I was just so desparate for elytra and shulker chests I went back and managed to kill them this time but now am facing the mining for iron and diamonds again.
Kinda takes the fun and enjoyment out of playing in survival.
Mod Auldrick
I know there is nothing you can do personally only report bugs to the developers so I am not angry at you or the other mods who take the time to reply here
. I dont belong to discord, Have no desire to join. I do use twitter tho,
Why cant the developers reply in here the bug reporting place. Or even post updates on progress fixing bugs. I am an older person in my 60s who loves minecraft but find all the new stuff like twitter discord etc confusing. Why do we have to go to other places to speak to them?
Could you just pass on the message to them that not everyone belongs to discord or wants to join it or even twitter for that matter. Ok I am old so probably dont matter to the developers but I am an avid player of minecraft and it would be nice for them to give some replies here in the bug reporting place which is where people are looking for answers with bugs
Thanks
There's another avenue for contacting Mojang that you should find easier to use, since it's no more complicated than this one (probably less): the Feedback site.
I can't give you an official answer why you can't speak to the developers here, but as a former developer, maybe I can give you some insight. Consider what would happen if 10,000 bug tracker users had the ability to engage 30 developers (I'm guessing about that number) in dialogue. Everybody thinks their bug is the most important and urgent one, because to them it really is, and appeals to reason would just leave them frustrated, disappointed, and angry. There would be no end of resentments and arguments that such-and-such bug was fixed before theirs when it's so obvious that theirs should have been fixed first! They might understand that some bugs are harder and take longer to fix, but knowing that won't make them feel any less frustrated. Besides that, most developers are technical geeks, not known for having the best people skills. It would be a public relations disaster, and the developers wouldn't have time to fix any bugs!
Thanks Mod Auldrick for the feedback site link, will save the link in my minecraft link folder
Because I was reporting a bug I was looking for feedback about how it was progressing.
Is there a link to any progress reports on bugs they are working on and when updates are near to release. I know some people get this on twitter or something ( maybe they are on the update beta) so I can be more informed on bug progress etc 🙂 Currently I am relying on you tube where some people report stuff like that but it would be nice to know the proper place to get this info
There is no such web site to give you a link to. All information of that sort has to come from the Community Managers, who know how to translate the technical gobbledygook into what you want to know. Even the people you follow on YouTube have to get their information from the Community Managers, probably via Twitter.
Also, Mojang doesn't give out release dates, and any predictions the YouTubers make are their own speculation, sometimes accurate, sometimes not. It's not out of any need for secrecy, it's because Mojang themselves don't know that a release is ready to go until it passes the final tests, and after that, all they have left to do is make it available in the app stores. In the old days, they would still need time to manufacture and ship the product, but now it's all automated and delivered electronically so there's virtually no time between when they could make an announcement and when they actually deliver the release.
Went to fight the dragon for the first time on my survival single player world and the game crashed on entering the end. After reloading the world I was facing 7 dragons on an extremely bugged out end island. There was about a 30x30x30 chunk of end island missing centering on the portal, with nothing but void below. I am very glad I backed up my world beforehand, but there is no fix in game play for this. I ran a back up, and same thing happened. This is absolutely game breaking, and unacceptable it has made it into multiple full releases. If this happened in Java, there would be a hot fix release within the week.
I was under the impression that this was a result of having a smaller simulation distance than the dragon's pathing, so when a player re-enters the end and the dragon is outside their simulation distance, it just spawns another one. If this were the case, it seems like it could be solved by adding a "hasDragon" tag to the End dimension?
I had this happen to me yesterday, maybe it's to do with my spawn platform being decently far away from the ender dragon but nevertheless, I had died and re entered the portal and at the top of my screen I see two healthbars for two ender dragons. I tried saving and quitting, reloading the game but none worked so I eventually had to kill both of them. I didn't even get any xp from killing the second one. but I would like this bug fixed because I play solo so one dragon is hard enough let alone two. I play on Xbox One Console in v1.12.0
I crashed when I entered the end and when I loaded the world again there were 4 ender dragons. I can progress anymore as I cannot beat all 4 dragons and I cannot get back to my world without killing myself and losing all my items.
Happened to me too, I wanted to beat the ender dragon with my friend, when he entered the end another dragon spawned and we sh*t our pants
I was fighting the ender dragon and died 2 times. When I returned after the 2nd death there were two dragons. Very frustrating. My system didn’t crash. Playing on X-Box one, console version. Seed -203161719
In all of the worlds where I enter the End, there are spawning more and more enderdragons (I don't have to die in the End).
I think this bug should be fixed AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE. (it is also in 1.13.0.1)
I got this problem on Nintendo switch, i died one time and there were 2 Ender dragons but the problem is that i died 2 more times and there were 4 Ender dragons, and that's almost imposible to beat
still waiting.... it happens to nearly all worlds i play on xboxone
THE GAME GETS UNPLAYABLE
I found the Bug today and the last time I was in the End there was 10 or more Enderdragons. I can't play the Game until the Bug is fixed!
Add one more affected to the list. This happened to me last night in bedrock for switch. I was launched off of the island like a rocket (seriously that knockback is an issue on its own) and died in the void. Upon re-entering there were two dragons for me to fight.
Matt Smith made a post above about the dragon being in an unloaded chunk at spawn. There could very well be something to that as my spawn point in the end is the platform floating over the void away from the island and I only have sim distance set to 8. Luckily I was able to cheese the fight by digging into the iron cage and part of the column but this can be a game breaking bug for a lot of people. I understand that development takes time but this is unacceptable. This issue is going on a year since it was reported.
So when I did it, it wasnt each time I went back another spawned, the first time I got there I saw 3 end dragon health bars on my screen and I thought that was a glitch but there were actually 3 and there was no way me and my one other fren could beat that so we were annihilated it was so unfair
I don't have access to the status of fix efforts; for that information you should contact a Community Manager. However, for such a highly voted issue, and one that can very well prevent the completion of the standard game as intended, I'm certain it's a high priority for a fix, and is probably taking so long because it's a tough problem to fix. I'm just speculating, but for instance if it's a multiplayer world, several players could be fighting ender dragons independently while logged on at different times. If they tried to fix it by just deleting extra dragons, the next time some player logged on, their dragon might be gone, and then they might have to kill themselves and lose all their stuff to get back to the overworld. So fixing the problem for one player might ruin the game for another. A problem can seem simple enough from a limited point of view, but the devs have to look at it from every player's point of view simultaneously, and that's a lot harder.
How about simply RESET the end option. that could give a chance to kill ender dragon at least for a first try.
Add me to the effected list! FOUR dragons spawned! AND the game crashes after a short amount of time being in the End. Not very fun. (Nintendo Switch version)
I have at least 10 ender dragons in my world and there's no way I can beat all of them (MCPE)
A similar thing happened on nintendo switch. I loaded into the end and dug my way out of the box I was in and shot one of the crystels. The problem is that when I shot it the dragon hadn't loaded. As soon as I shot the crystel, 8 dragons spawned in! I put my valuables in an ender chest then killed my self but the world crashed. I loaded back in right when I had just gotten into the end but the 8 dragons were still there! So I repeated the process of putting the my stuff in an ender chest and dying but the world would crash, putting me back in the end when I would reload. It was only when I was killed by an one of the dragons (after having put my stuff in my ender chest) and i pressed "Quit to main menu" that I was able to go back into the world and respawn. But the 8 dragons are still there and iI'm unable to comeplete the game after months of preparation. Please resolve this.
My friend and I entered the end dimension for the first time in this world (my friend who was not the host entered first), and when we reached the island multiple dragons started to spawn, there are 3 boss bars but there are way more than 3, shortly after that my game crashed, so I made a copy of my world, turned on cheats and used the /e kill @e command to kill them, but the game crashed again. I really like this survival world so I had to make another copy, turn on cheats, turn on keep inventory and kill myself, and now Im in the overworld and can play normally, except I cant enter the end because my game will crash and I cant get achievements, I hope this gets fixed soon.
This bug happens in every world every seed you dont need to die either for that to happen i got 20+ dragons on my world literally impossible to progress let alone i cant shoot crystal without missing my shot which there is another bug where if your arrow lands in unrendered area it will crash you entire game idk how this bugs just manifest outta nowhere
Im having the same problem with the ender dragon so i just hope that mojang sees this and fixes it soon.
I am having this issue as well. I defeated both dragons the first time and next time i spawned the dragon in and died, it spawned 2 in again. I also had issues with the game crashing.
Having the same issue on switch. First time into the end to fight the dragon and had 7+ dragons. Made the fight impossible and can’t do anything about it. Needs to be fixed ASAP.
This issue happened to me as well when I returned to the End after dying. Now I only have 2 ( Not as bad as other people), but still needs to be fixed soon, please.
A fix for this is coming up in 1.13.
I'm sorry but what? How did you get an unreleased version of Minecraft on your switch? You should only have 1.12 because switch can't have any betas. Unless you made a typo @HyperPippi, this shouldn't be possible.
So after a full 2 hours of testing random worlds with random seeds. This bug has never surfaced again after the 1.13.0.9 beta. But, can anyone else confirm that this has been fixed?
I wonder if 1.13.0.9 beta fixes both cases,
Prevents from spawning multiple ender dragons
Automatically kills redundant ender dragons that have already spawned (for players currently suffering from this bug)
Did someone with affected save data test for case 2?
1.12.1 was released today and the changelog lists this bug as fixed.
https://feedback.minecraft.net/hc/en-us/articles/360032928992-Minecraft-1-12-1-Bedrock-
Change the title from [Fixed in 1.13] Multiple Ender Dragons to [Fixed] Multiple Ender Dragons. Not only 1.13 fixed this issue but 1.12.1 also did fixed this issue.
This happened to me too! I wasted 20 hours playing in a world but in the end 15 ender dragons spawned and i lost my diamond armor and weapons. I tried to create another world but there were 2 ender dragons in the end! This is so stupid! I can't play survival until it is fixed. I saw in the wiki that this was fixed in bedrock edition 1.12 but the game keeps doing it.
I had Aksana's issue with a nether portal last night. Eventually it kicked in but I stood there for a good minute. I think that is a separate, also annoying issue. At least the End portal surface is solid, otherwise she would have dropped into the lava. As far as the dragon tho, I have fought her 3 times now in 1.14 and everything seems normal. Only one dragon each time and the knockback seems to have been reduced considerably (feature or bug?). The dragon fight is fun again.
So, IBXToycat just had 12 dragons spawn in his end and kill him. He posted it on YouTube today. This would be 1.14.1. Looks like this bug may not be fixed after all. 😞
Here is a link to the video where it happens: https://youtube.com/watch?v=tyGL3GXq8Ew&t=439s
Seems like the "fix" in 1.13 only keeps the dragons loaded to reduce the chance of extra spawns. That's why they were able to get back to the central island. It doesn't actually stop the spawning itself. It was just a bandaid fix.
At this point, the fix seems to be 100% effective in all new worlds and in all previously existing worlds except for Toycat's. The video leaves no doubt that it's still possible to trigger multiple dragon spawns, but that by itself isn't enough to justify reopening the ticket. Let me try to explain why.
The essence of fixing a bug is to patch the code that causes it in a new world. The bug can't be considered fixed until it no longer happens in a new world. But many (probably most) bugs affect the world contents, which are saved in the world save files. If the bug also causes damage to the save files, Mojang will also try to repair that damage the first time you load the world in the fixed release. To do that, the developers have to anticipate all the ways the bug could possibly damage the world, figure out how to detect whether a given world has a given kind of damage, and decide the best way to repair it. Needless to say, this is not only very difficult, it's literally impossible sometimes, so the part of a bug fix that repairs damage to old worlds is done on a "best effort" basis. In other words, there is no guarantee that a bug fix can repair your existing worlds perfectly.
Toycat's world is most likely one where there was damage the developers didn't anticipate and therefore couldn't fix completely. This is especially true because he's well known for "coloring outside the lines". He's done things on the center island that nobody else would do, and his world save is probably quite unique. So after the fix release, it might still have a unique kind of damage that triggers the bug, while other people's repaired worlds don't.
The upshot is that while it's true that the bug still exists, it has no known impact on anybody but Toycat, and even he isn't being impacted by it any more (other than the cost of replacing all the glass the dragons destroyed). Unless other people start reporting this issue too, there isn't really anything that needs a fix here.
I am having the same issue on Minecraft Windows 10 edition. I have had 3 dragons in the end when I die. Currently, three appears to be the maximum. I am playing on a Lenovo Windows 10.
