Having this issue on and off all morning for the last 2 hours. Repeatedly getting this message or simply “an error occurred”

We are not able to reproduce this issue currently. Could you please check if this is an ongoing issue in the latest version (1.17.2)? If so, can you please add it to the affected versions (or mention it if you are not the reporter).

This ticket will automatically reopen when you reply.

Im having the same exakt problem, updated game,  i managed to "reset" my realms,. and could join that, but cant upload the backup i just downloaded from the same realms i took prior to reseting it either.

Realms version 1.17.10 when checking the backups.

"replacing the realms with backup failed"

Same issues as above. I'm on 1.17.11 which I believe is the current version. All the same issues as above, an error occurred message is displayed. except in addition when attempting to close the realm I'm given a
"Unable to connect to realm.
Failed to close realm"
Message

It's been at least 48 hours with a reset realm now, completely unable to change it but able to play on it. The realms is payed for, so is Gold. I've reset my internet. Deleted Minecraft on pc, phone and Xbox. Reinstalled. Reloaded a backup. Reset the realm. Previously been able to close the realm but... That's not an available action anymore.

This bug displays a complete failure within mojangs support team. Minimum - Two months later and this major issue still isn't fixed. We've entirely new content at this point with another update on it's way, but no actual fixes. As stated in the "duplicate" ticket I created - we're paying you for nothing. I am literally giving you money for no reason, no support, no fix. Sort it out?

Just to be clear, this isn't the first time I've experienced this, it's actually a fairly regular issue.

This Issue is currently occuring on 1.20.12 as well still making it next to impossible to upload or roll back a realm to a prior save point and preventing Players from uploading other worlds into their realms. Has there been any word of a potential fix to this?

I was receiving this error after updating and turning on Windows Defender on Windows 11. This included real-time scanning, antivirus, and firewall. When I disabled them all again the error went away and I was able to upload my world again.

At the time of this post Bedrock version is 1.20.32.

I got the aforementioned error on PS5 bedrock version 1.20.41. Contacted Playstation Game Support,  and they said it was a Mojang bug.

Platform: PlayStation 5 (Minecraft Bedrock – native PS5 version)
Realm type: Private Realm (paid subscription)
World type: Local world stored on PS5 system storage
World size: ~377 MB

Issue:
Uploading / replacing a world on a Realm from PS5 consistently fails with the generic message “An error occurred”.
The failure is non-deterministic: sometimes it happens around mid-upload, other times at 100%, after long upload times (up to ~1 hour per attempt).

Important clarification:
This ticket is marked as resolved/duplicate, but the problem is NOT resolved in practice. It remains a critical and reproducible issue for PS5 players, and it is still widely reported by the community.

What has been tested (none of this works):

  • Full game reinstall on PS5

  • Backup to PS Plus cloud, complete removal of local saves, restore from cloud

  • Auto-sync disabled to avoid cloud conflicts

  • Multiple networks tested:

    • Fiber connection

    • 5G hotspot

    • Slower mobile connections (including forced LTE / 4G)

  • Realm closed and reopened before upload

  • Multiple upload attempts (over many hours total)

Result:
The upload always fails, regardless of network conditions or reinstall/restore attempts.

Why this is a serious issue on PS5:
On PlayStation 5:

  • Local worlds cannot be exported

  • External servers cannot be used

  • Realms is the ONLY supported way to move a world off the console

When Realms upload fails, the world is effectively trapped on the PS5 with no supported workaround. This makes the issue far more severe on PlayStation than on other platforms.

Community evidence (ongoing, not historical):
This is not an isolated case. Multiple recent community reports describe the same behavior:

These reports confirm that the issue is still active and affecting many users.

Impact as a paying customer:
In my case, I am paying monthly for a Realm subscription, but the core advertised functionality (uploading and using my own world) does not work on PS5.

If this issue is not addressed, the only option left is to request a refund, since the service cannot be used as intended on this platform.

Request:

  • Please acknowledge that this issue is still unresolved for PS5 users

  • Improve the world upload handling and reliability on PlayStation 5

  • Or at minimum provide proper error reporting instead of a generic failure message

This is not a user-side configuration issue. After extensive testing, the problem is clearly platform-side and within Mojang’s Realms implementation on PS5.

I have the same problem in PS5
