I completely forgot about that report. I swear I searched for anything similar. My bad.
And although in a dark place with nothing around - the magma block texture is bright - it doesn’t have any bloom or visible glow, like any other light block.
Not even a subtle bloom effect like Lava does.
Lava is definitely bugged or something.
Fire has been since fixed to be 10x more emissive. Lava is still the same. I think it’s the only light emitting block that doesn’t actually look emissive.
this is still an issue even on the latest preview build.
Sunlight doesn’t go farther than a certain distance under land overpasses or into caves.
Pictures from latest preview. The screen still gets too dark to see anything past 6 or so blocks.
Still happening in the latest preview.
Also a new bug has occurred.
After removing the point light block - the actual point light doesn’t go away. Only the block.
I will also mention the lighting documentation doesn’t specifically say don’t set lava as a point light.
It says “This modeling works well for blocks such as torches, but isn't as good for conveying blocks with larger, discrete shapes, such as lava blocks or campfires.”
Which is not related to the issue I have mentioned. This is specifically because Point lights do not function correctly with full solid blocks. For example they do not cast shadows.
Understandable. However it shows how bad the game can break when large numbers of point lights are placed without having to hand place tons yourself.
Besides - these issues aren’t exclusive to Lava. As you can see in my screenshots.
It is just farther exaggerated when you have large pools of lava which is the same as massive amounts of point lights in one area.
Still affecting latest preview
This breaking of the games rendering is 100x worse if you set Lava as a Point light and place a bucket of lava on a Hill.
Massive glitched textures start appearing that stretch into the sky.
Lava is in-fact an emissive texture….
you’re mental to think otherwise 😂😂😂
This issue was slightly improved in preview 1.21.120
But it still severely reduces the Visible Bloom on emissive textures and changes Saturation…
This is Minimum to Maximum Gamma on Vibrant Visuals….
And this is Minimum vs Maximum brightness on Fancy graphics.
Latest Preview aswell….
Shadows in real life can be cast on clouds..
It has nothing to do with players assuming you can stand on them.
As you will notice, my player can Directly see the Sun. Yet I’m always in shade.
This is illogical. Especially for the image that I am Infront of Obsidian.
Why can I see the sun - But the shadows being cast from the cave opening stop AHEAD OF ME as if I’m in shade, not direct sunlight as you can obviously see - I AM…
And for a block that quite literally does output light.. even more than Firefly bushes (which are much more emissive looking compared) it should definitely look as such.
