Were they bees that were outside of the hive? If so, this is intended; campfires only pacify bees in regards to harvesting them with shears or bottles. Destroying a beehive with Silk Touch tool preserves the blocks with the bees that were inside it at the time.
That they only enraged once is also intended. Once bees successfully attack the player, they will become 'docile' and die in about a minute, since they lose their stingers.

Are you certain the distance between Campfires and Beehives is correct? While visually the range seems to go as far as the smoke, Beehives are affected by campfires only if they are 5 blocks below or less, so at most there should be four free spaces for the smoke.

On Bedrock, Swamp and Jungle villagers can spawn naturally in villages if the villages infringe on Swamp or Jungle biomes. The center of the village determines the architecture..

Mobs will not willingly jump to their death - if the platform is low enough, or there is a second platform with a one block gap, they will move away, falling off (potentially to their death if a button is placed in the gap to fool them into entering it).
