Confirmed in 1.4.7. Generalized the problem.

Confirmed in 1.4.6 and snapshot 13w01b.
I have replicated the issue with doors, glass and glowstone. It appears the issue is to do with transparent blocks maybe. Hope this gets fixed.

Voted. With an ender pearl you can walk through doors, glass blocks, go above nether's bedrock ceiling, get stuck (player's feet) inside solid blocks which makes the player not being able to move, etc.

Wow. This issue is old. 😛

Please update the affected versions. It is still in 1.6 (1.6.2)
Here is a great Video showing the Bug http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=AwQSN0UFLSY

I've been hoping this would get fixed for ages now.
My problem is that players can pick up (steal) items on the other side of solid walls with ender pearls! 😞

It needs more upvotes. Please tell your friends to vote.

This is a feature request more than a bug report. The enderpearl teleports you to it's own location. Since the enderpearl is smaller than the player the player gets partially stuck inside the block they are teleporting to. If the player crouches he will be stuck in the block. This is a feature of the game and is programmed this way.
This is more of a feature request and should be posted on the official minecraft suggestions reddit here: www.reddit.com/r/minecraftsuggestions

Firstly, version 1.7.9 is affected.
Secondly, how is getting stuck in a block and dying a feature of Ender Pearls? It's one thing to die from the intentional teleport damage, it's another thing to be whisked into a wall and have no chance for escaping. Ceilings especially are almost guaranteed deaths if they're thick. It makes Ender Pearls nearly useless in certain areas.
If Mojang intended Ender Pearls to be buggy like this, then I'd like to hear from them, because I just don't understand why anyone would think that's a good idea.

Okay perhaps not a feature but it's working as intended. The position of the player is set to the position of the enderpearl. That's what the enderpearls do still.
Ceilings aren't garunteed death if you use a single enderpearl and it is your own fault if you use multiple, get stuck in a wall and die.
Enderpearls aren't unusable/useless if you know how to use them and this brings far more uses than it does otherwise. Like for example teleporting above bedrock in the nether and allowing you to get through, otherwise impassable regions.

I didn't use multiple ender pearls. I threw a single pearl at the ceiling above a loft I made (I was below and on the side of the loft so I wanted to hit the ceiling then fall down onto the loft floor). I began suffocating and died.
Two other friends and I have all died from suffocation using ender pearls in the same week. I guess we're all idiots, but I figured there'd be more than zero block checking. A TON of other Minecraft functions check all sorts of things before making a final decision. Why not a basic head-is-not-suffocating check? Check 1 up/down/4cardinalDirs and if they fail, just give up and let the person die.

Tested this, and prooven!

When going upwards this allows players to pass trough all blocks, including bedrock and barrier blocks. This can cause serious issues in adventure maps that use enderpearls.

Being able to travel through solid blocks should definitely be considered a bug. It doesn't matter if some people find it useful, it's a ridiculously powerful exploit and must be fixed.

Actually I think I glitch into solid blocks more often than not when I use ender pearls, because I don't use them that often. When I do it's usually a terrible idea. Just yesterday, in 1.8.7, I threw 2 ender pearls about 10 meters in front of me, on flat grassland, and I got stuck in the ground 1 block down. Fortunately I wasn't suffocating like normal, but instead I was being attacked by a mob of spiders at night, so I had to frantically decide to attack or dig myself out. Sure, it probably only happened because I threw 2 instead of 1, but man, well over half the time I use them something goes wrong.

I'm surprised this ticket is open since 2012 and the issue still isn't fixed, it's so annoying :S

Checked after enderpearl-related update. Spam-clicking enderpearls no longer works. You can not get through most of the solid blocks.
Problem still occurs with thin blocks such as doors, glass panes and fences. This most likely means that this problem will occur with anything with the size less than one whole block.
New video for the 15w34d update: https://youtu.be/qBflXPGcvx4

Whoops. Removed 1.8.8 by accident. Put it back now.

@Ruudiluca So you are saying that on the current latest snapshot clipping through cielings is no longer possible?
To put this a different way, It's only possible to clip through thin walls such as the ones shown on your video?

@Dylan Calaf Latham: I believe that is correct. I used the normal method of trying to get through the ceiling, but couldn't do it. The usual method relies on the user spamming ender pearls. However, there is now a cool-down on ender pearl usage. This means that the usual spamming method no longer works.
Have you seen another way to get through ceilings with ender pearls?

@Ruudiluca Yeah, but it envolves plugin usage. We are talking about pure Vanilla here 😛
That's some real good news.

As sugested by @SunCat, I'm leaving some aditional issues related to enderpearl clipping here. I would appreciate if @Ruudiluca added them to his ticket.
Additional info (MC: 1.11.2):
Players can also still clip through solid thick blocks using enderpearls, if the blocks form a corner.

So lucky for finding this bug soon enough for me to permanently banned Ender Pearl out of my survival world. At least until I can fix it. My world doesn't use chest lock.Â

Affects 19w38b, can I request ownership?

I tested this on 1.14.4, and you can use this to go on top of the nether. This is a really nasty bug, since you can get stuck up there if you have no ways to kill yourself, and no ways to build a portal! If you're not on hard difficulty, you can't starve to death either.
I'm pretty sure you're not supposed to be able to get up there at all in survival mode, especially since it can ruin your game if you do.

This bug is such a classic. Maybe it's about time we consider it part of the gameplay.
This ticket stays open until either the bug no longer happens or Mojang decides to close the ticket.

I find it quite funny to see this bug still going on. It would be interesting to see it get Mojang acknowledgement some time.Â
Wow! I just noticed that this is the oldest open issue here. Cool.Â

@Ruudiluca If you mean the oldest bug, I just did a search for very old OPEN bug reports, and found some even older results than this bug:Â
https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MC-2110?jql=project%20%3D%20MC%20AND%20issuetype%20%3D%20Bug%20AND%20status%20%3D%20Open%20AND%20created%20%3E%3D%202010-10-01%20AND%20created%20%3C%3D%202012-11-05%20ORDER%20BY%20created%20DESC
But even so, yeah, this bug is still pretty old.
MC-4 is the oldest still open ticket.
That being said, this comment section is not for off-topic discussion. If you want to discuss bugs or the bug tracker, you can do so either in our /r/Mojira subreddit or on our Discord server.

This also works with non transparent blocks, but it is a bit harder to do. You have to sprint then, because the blocks pushes you out. If you sprint, you are stronger than the block and can also glitch through.

Can confirm in 1.16.2

I can confirm this is still occurring frequently in 1.16.40, three of us on my LAN game raided end cities for about two hours. My friend ended up in a wall when he threw an ender pearl at a wall onto the ledge of an end city. I ended up in a wall twice during our raids. It seems to only happen if the pearl is thrown at a wall and ledge that are close together or where a wall meets a floor of some kind. I hope this helps narrow down the bug. Working on recreating and catching it on video.

@unknown I think you are talking about bedrock. This one is a Java Bug. If this is present on bedrock then go over to that tracker and report it there (if it isn't reported already)

Oh silly me, I just noticed that. I'll take this to the bedrock bugs.

Is this an intended feature since the bug is so old.

Priority assigned -> not intended.

Is this still an issue in 24w37a?

I can no longer reproduce this in 24w37a. I also cannot access the nether roof using ender pearls anymore.

Why was the reporter changed? Change it back to me.
I can still reproduce this behavior in 24w37a although it is now much harder to reproduce.
@unknown I transferred ownership of this report to myself since you were inactive until this moment since 2021.

May be harder to reproduce due to MC-276716.

I am still actively monitoring this. Please change it back.
You have to keep the report up to date; if you don't, it will be handed off to someone else who will, even if you're still following the issue. You haven't done anything for years.
Letting a report wither on the vine does no one any good.
