if you have bg music playing and switch gamemodes the music stops playing...
if you press escape while it playing it will also stop the music.
there are still many issues with the sound
The reason is found, 1.7.3 was a snapshot that adds creative sounds!

Why is it intended to stop background music when gamemodes are changed? It makes sense to pause the music when the game is paused, but I can't think of a reason why gamemode changing would need music ending as part of it. I'm not trying to be mad or rude, I was just curious as to the motivation for saying that this works as intended in that regard.

Personal Comment: Think guys, maybe something new is in the works? There's been various sound bugs reported showing interesting bug reports. Clearly there have been changes in the sound system. Let's see what happens... maybe you'll get some new toys to play with out of it.
Creative mode uses Creative mode music - Survival mode uses Survival mode music.
For example, if you are on Creative mode with Creative background music and then switch to Survival mode, it will immediately stop because the background music is only designed for Creative mode! It also works the other way.
Okay, that is understandable. I don't think there's any separate music for spectator mode though, and I switch between creative and spectator a lot. The music cutting out every single time really ruins it. Perhaps this should be posted as a feature suggestion rather than a bug?
