Note
As described by the title, this ticket is now being used to track crashes that occur when doing a number of actions in 1.17.10.20 Beta in a Caves & Cliffs-enabled world, including (but not limited to)
Moving
Breaking blocks
Killing mobs
Using throwables
Mojang is aware of this issue. We appreciate that you want to share more information to help solve it, but there is no need to say that you experience this issue or what seemed to cause the crash, as Mojang automatically receives a crash report every time a crash occurs, so they likely have enough information (together with this report) to work on a fix. Mojang will check in to ask for more info if they need to.
For now, you may choose not to play on the affected worlds for the time being. Please note that there is no way in-game to turn off the Caves & Cliffs experimental option, and doing so by other means is not supported and may cause serious issues with your world.
On a similar note, if you experience a crash in 1.16.221 Hotfix or subsequent versions where this issue will be fixed, there is no need to create a report unless you can reproduce the crash reliably (with reproduction steps).
Steps to reproduce (by breaking blocks)
Create a world with the Caves & Cliffs option enabled with the seed
-1602018465
/tp 521 63 -570
Break a sand block
→ ✔ No crashBreak a grass block
→ ❌ Crashes immediately
Other information
This appears to affect blocks with the grass breaking sound (MCPE-128997). From other duplicate reports thus far, this has also been reported to affect dirt/grass, stone/cobblestone wall, pumpkins, bamboo, leaves and waterlogged stairs.
For breaking blocks, this may not affect Creative mode (MCPE-128997)
Does not seem to occur everywhere in the world, e.g., breaking grass blocks in the Taiga biome spawn using the seed stated above.
Crashes have also been reported to occur when attacking mobs/using items (e.g., throwing snowballs in MCPE-128958). This may have a similar root cause.
Original summary and description below
Crashing when chopping wood
Game crashes when chopping naturally spawning trees, also happens on xbox and when playing multiplayer cross platform, both games crash unless the player not chopping wood is in the nether

Crashed for me when breaking trees (wood and leaves). These trees had been grown from saplings.
I have same issue also crashing when auto saving unless thats same time i am breaking brick or leaves. Also crashed when killing sheep too.
Seems very lagy too. Never ever had any issue before
I have not had issues when mining underground, I was mining for quite a long time, many autosaves.
Cannot break more than 2 blocks of wood if I get the first one without crashing. I tried grass covered dirt and it crashes.
I have tried with multiple different items in hand as well as bare hand.
Forest biom.
We are aware of this issue and the team is working on a fix. The crash seems to happen only when the Caves & Cliffs experimental toggle is enabled. For now, avoid playing in the beta while that toggle is enabled.
@Matt Gartzke, How do you turnoff Caves & Cliffs Experimental Toggle on an existing world? My toggle is grayed out.
I'm hopeful it gets fixed soon - pretty much tanks the game.
In my survival world, breaking top snow crashes the game for some reason.
But on me,it crash when me breaking grass block on any survival world, just that. That's so annoying on PE because you can accidentally break the grass when touching
When the game crashes, the villager population is reduced by a significant amount which results in over breading of the villagers.
Yeah I've also had alot of negative affects from crashes, entire inventorys disappearing, boxes and all of its contents disappear, horses disappearing, minecarts disappear. Bees disappearing. But i beleive that to be a result of crashes and cannot be expected to be fixed short of preventing crashing in the first place
Crash when destroy flower.
uh, this one is unknown, creating map several time. Its crash randomly everytime i do something. Sometime crash after destroy flower, grass, tree, dirt. With vanilla setting possible, with caves and cliff turned on.
The game crashes when either chopping tree blocks or in combat. On loading the game and same world it loads the last save but may have items gained before the crash. It even duplicated a bed.
For me my case MCPE-129178 seemed to have been a duplicate but I want to add that for some other variants or cases of this issue, at times simply walking in a world generated by Caves and Cliffs experimental option can crash the game.
I also have this issue, both on Windows 10 and on Android 9. Although the issue is more common on the windows 10 edition, at least for me. It occurs mostly when breaking any block and seems to be random. I find it occurring more often when doing something else whilst breaking the block, e.g. swimming/jumping while breaking any block.
Caves and cliff toggle is on as well.
For me it happens when ever simply looking at any solid green object like grass, leaf's, ext.
I am having the same issue on Windows 10. I am fine if I break chunks where I spawned but if I move to another biome or a different island it keeps crashing when I try to break anything.
Edit: There seems to be conflicting/two different codes running. I noticed today my screen keeps flashing a mob or "something" very quickly so it is like two different events are taking place code wise. My villagers are also moving like a flash character lol it is very funny to watch.
Yep, was breaking a fence, crashed. Was running normally, crashed, was breaking a tree, crashed, pressed RT while on a horse, crashed. What I realized is it only crashed when in an old chunk (bedrock at 0), because my house was already there before toggling Caves and Cliff on, however, when I was in a cave away from my house, in an new chunk (bedrock at -60), I was able to play without any crashes, I do not know if it is a coincidence or if it matters.
@leo, it crashes for me in brand new areas too. Any idea if the nether is "safe"? Perhaps time to explore other realms?
It only crashes when I have the color green anywhere on my screen. ZERO green on screen= ZERO crashes for me!
From what I've experienced, sometimes the crash from breaking blocks can happen before you even fully break the block. I also wonder if block updates to tall grass blocks on abnormal blocks (ones tall grass can't normally appear/be placed on) receiving updates, and breaking automatically can cause a crash as well.
No I have tested this extensively on many worlds including a stone flat world and I can break green blocks if I am careful, and I can break every block without error I just can not have the color green on my screen without crashes. Includes carpet, wool, grass, leaf's, cactus, moss, vine's, sugarcane. It is 100% ONLY looking at color green that crashes my game. the color green, and dirt as well. ok I spent 10 hours testing this (and 500 crashes later) I learn the color green onj my screen is a 85% crash rate.. I can move forward back left and right 90% of the time with no crashes, and can look at dirt 60% of the time with no crashes, but if I try to adjust or move my camera angle with the color green on or entering my screen it will crash my game. I am free to spin my camera angle all I want as long as there is zero green anywhere. I have moved to the nether where there is zero green and it is working well for me. I could live in cave's, but with the new moss block it might be a risk if I come across it witch I have not done so yet, and doubt I will any time soon., but in the cave system I am free and work well, same as in my house. I tried to link my house and the caves together, but when trying to do so when I went to get up threw the dirt, and grass it was working... then is non-stopped crashed just by looking at the dirt/grass block's. I did find a escape and made it to the nether. not I live happily there with zero crashes, and zero green block's. =) I hope to go back for my 100 diamonds in my chests in my house in the overworld someday, however my nether portal in the overworld is less then 30 blocks of GREEN grass block's and I cant even go more then 5 without a crash... so... for now I am poor, desperate, and stuck in the nether.
Crashes also seem to vaporize horses/donkeys/mules. I was riding a horse prior to a crash...gone. Had a named mule in a stable...gone. Same with a donkey. Had a tamed horse in the vicinity of where I was mining prior to a crash...gone.
It happens in all seed and mostly some blocks, when you mine it with the wrong tool, like leaves with an axe, sugar cane with sword
When breaking or collecting with the wrong tool my worlds crash.
Can confirm. I tried looking for a crash report but they aren't where they're supposed to be.

@unknown: Crash reports are automatically sent to Mojang on Bedrock, so there is no need to find one.
I am experiencing this bug as well, I have captured it twice with screen record. Can recapture as many times as you may need.
These two video attachments are not a duplicate, it is a repeated attempt to chop the same tree with the same axe in the same seed with the same result in beta. I am also including a screenshot of the world edit screen to show the seed #.
[media]Happening to me on Android10.
Mostly it happens when I'm mining wood with bare hand in fresh survival world. When I'm mining wood and then touch the leaves without lifting finger, the game crashes. It's practically impossible to start fresh world in 1.17.10.20 with Caves & Cliffs enabled.
I hope this bug will not affect 1.17 full release, but it's too much game breaking.
This is not resolved.
Issue resolved for me have you updated the game?
No, I haven't. I've been checking the app store all day for the update, I guess its not available for my device yet? I know update day is usually Thursdays.
@unknown Sadly, this week's beta is not available for Android, however it will return next week.
also occasionally crashing while mining dirt or stone, or during raids when attacking pillagers
