After the 1.20.10 update when I play with friends sometimes their in-game names are shown as "Steve" or "Aria". They are correctly logged in and we have all tried restarting the clients. Sometimes when you enter the server they are shown correctly, other times not. Might mostly affect the server host..?

Also related, when accessing the "Friends" tab, the available servers to join show up twice sometimes. Once like they used to, and now also once under "LAN". The server under LAN usually shows the wrong user name, as in Steve or Aria and so on.

What specific "server" are you using? (Realms, BDS, commercially hosted)?

and there is another problem, it does not let anyone play in LAN mode, I thought it was a problem with my cell phone, but no, if you do not have internet, no player appears

Just a player hosted server.

Why is this issue marked as resolved btw?

When we require more information, we resolve a report as "Awaiting Response". If the reporter responds, the system automatically reopens the report and makes it Unresolved again. The reason we do it this way is that in many cases, the reporter doesn't respond to our questions, either for some time or ever. By leaving the report resolved, another person having the problem can create a new report and it won't be treated as a duplicate. Then we can work with the new reporter to get enough information to submit it to Mojang.

I had this issue occur to me in the 1.20.20.21 Preview on Windows 10 (local world, multiplayer with LAN enabled but I'm the only player). In my case, my character's name was the name of the skin in a custom skin pack I created and imported. The game apparently set this name as it loaded the pack, because as I watched my name ran through all the skin names in the pack one at a time.

I didn't think to check 3rd party view to see what name appeared above my player in-game, but I did look at a /teleport command and saw that the tab completion list for target selector @p showed my skin name rather than my gamertag. I also saw that on the pause menu, the player list had my skin name rather than my gamertag.

As an experiment, I switched one of my 5 character slots in the Dressing Room to a character creator skin. That changed my character name to Eze, one of the predefined personas.

@unknown Sounds like what I was experiencing too, except it always went away if I went into the Dressing Room. Then one day it just fixed itself?

This is definitely not just a visual bug. It happens regardless of skin used. Logging relogging doesn't help. Mine says Steve and my username isnt used even with commands. It actually stops you from accessing your ender chest as well. Pets dont recognize you. The title screen says you are logged in after clicking on the button. Reinstalling the game doesnt help. Logging relogging in the xbox app doesnt help. Similar store accounts dont help. I'm on windows 10 with 11 upgrade. Fast internet, uninterrupted. Other devices log in fine. Small delays but it does log in and display the username properly within seconds. Uninstall reinstall launcher doesnt help either.

It is also happening to me. it has been happening on switch, Xbox one, and Windows. I got around it by opening the launcher as administrator and then logging into bedrock. I just had to reset my skins again for them to show up.

I am STILL being called Luke Skywalker J (a skin I switched to briefly a long time ago from the Star Wars pack), and not my username which is [redacted]

I found a way to fix this issue on windows, not sure if it works on other devices

Follow this file path  C:\Users\\AppData\Local\Packages\Microsoft.MinecraftUWP_8wekyb3d8bbwe\LocalState\games\com.mojang\minecraftpe

Once you're there, open the file "options.txt" in notepad, or anything that lets you edit it. at the top, where it says "mp_username", the name that keeps popping up instead of your actual username will be there, so just change it to match your username, save options.txt, relaunch minecraft, and it should work. Hope this helps!
