I never reloaded the world, I made my compass, looks and works perfectly fine, I put it into a chest (the double one) then went to get some paper, when I returned, i took the compass, held it, then there was that corrupt texture, this was all in one session.

I stumbled upon the glitch, again, but however, this time I was using the city texture pack.

I see Matthew uploaded the screenshot of a red wolf. I have seen this same issue (and with clocks as well). Should the wolf issue be reported as a separate bug? Issue 22019 sounds like this, but it was marked as a duplicate (which doesn't sound the same to me).

Cool texture, but doesn't help for finding your way back to spawn, clocks don't seem to function even in daylight cycle on. Texture missing or something.

Jason the wolf was red because I was using a texture pack. But I do have a lot more screen shots. Matter a fact, all you have to do is just craft a compass or a clock in survival mode, and there is that bug, also, despite fact th clocks go haywire in the nether, apparently the corrupt texture goes hay wire too. It's messed up seeing pixels just going crazy.
I even notice that overtime, (game time) that the pixels one by one eventually disappears, I never observed it disappearing completely but they disappear"

Is this bug also about block textures looking weird with resource pack? (In my case, I used my own version of Faithful.)

This glitch is really unnerving is you have trypophobia like me.
Clocks and compasses perfectly work in the hotbar/inventory and dropped, though.
(Windows 10 Edition)

Example of dropped.
Example of holding. 😞
This may be a rendering problem, though.
My old Toshiba laptop doesn't have this problem.
Produced on a Dell Inspiron 15-7579.

Yes, this actually occasionally happens to me, too. It just happens randomly for some strange reason.

I have been seeing this in Windows 10 Edition (1.1.4) as well. Today, after several IRL days of the texture being wrong, it came back to normal and has been fine all day. But I also noticed today that the item frames and maps on my largest map wall were gone. The map wall happens to be on a chunk boundary, and the clock is in a neighboring chunk. Yesterday I went on a long journey, far enough to cause these chunks to unload, and when they were reloaded the item frames probably popped off due to MCPE-11477 and they and my maps despawned before I noticed. I mention this because it suggests that reloading the chunk fixed the clock/compass texture problem, which might be a clue to the devs about what causes it.

For me, it just appears as a giant 3D version of the picture that appears when you have not gotten a thumbnail for a world on the selection screen being held in my hand, only happening with compasses. I have to get the angle just right in 3rd Person Front View or go into the inventory in the Classic UI to see all of it. It's quite funny in my opinion, yet it works fine in the hotbar even when being held.

Ok this is starting to get a bit annoying, I'm noticing this on a regular basis ever since the 1.1.4.51 update, as soon as I craft it, there it is. It just gets more and more common. Also apparently going to the The nether sometimes fixes it (not always) and that on multiplayer, while it may look broken to the player holding it, it seems fine to another player.
I also note that a checkered pink and yellow, or a blue and green is the most common corrupt texture I have seen.

I've had the same problem in Windows 10 Edition, but it's intermittent. One day it'll be working fine, the next day I'll get the purple and yellow pixelated thing instead of a compass.

I have upgraded to the 1.1.5 update, where according to the patch notes the issue is fixed, however, I still have this issue
