§ Symbol and line breaks are not being recognised when the "Filter Profanity" option is disabled

In a recent update, the § symbol (used to create coloured text, and text effects) is not being recognised, and/or is reverting/being deleted once it is entered in any text interface. (Sign, Anvil, Book, etc).

If the text is contained within a command block with the !say command, then it will take an additional activation for it to register the coloured text. (Shown in the attached image).

Additionally, pressing the ENTER key to move to the next line or separate your text will be reverted as if it was not pressed at all, smushing all the text back into the next available spot as if you did not attempt to separate it.

You can recreate this by:

  1. Disable “Filter Profanity” in Settings > General.

  2. Join a Realm.

  3. Enter an anvil.

  4. Rename an item with “§cTest”

  5. Confirm the item name

  6. If the bug has been recreated, then the red text did not transfer to the edited item as it was shown in the anvil.

This does not affect a locally hosted world.

This clip shows how signs reset themselves/don’t take separators into account and revert.

This clip demonstrates the § symbol’s coloured text being reverted to normal text, and the text itself having it’s separators taken away, smashing the text together into a single line.

i can confirm this - the signs i had already formatted prior to 26.20 are fine but now the § is just being removed altogether - so it’s happening in more than one place. win 11 bedrock platform.

Can confirm the issue, here is video example of § symbol is not working correctly when renaming item in anvil

Can confirm. All signs I make now revert to unformatted text immediately upon submitting text. I am in a bedrock realm and have my profanity filter off.

You know, while we're on this topic, I have my profanity filter off and it still filters quite a lot of things that are not even profane. Even things that work once and then are censored the next time I do it.

And I know you think that this issue doesn't exist (MCPE-227847 ) but, it does. Believe me, it does.

How about just giving us an option in the settings to be able to create signs and books without any disappearing formatting (which was happening in some cases before the new update, by the way) or #'s replacing our text? You can call the option “Create Signs and Books Without Shenanigans” (on/off toggle). Just a suggestion. Thanks!

Also having this problem!

Oddly, I’ve noticed if you use a space (which doesn’t correspond to anything and will not display any differences) then it doesn’t dissapear.

Can confirm for signs. Turning “Filter Profanity” on works around the bug.

However, book&quill content still sporadically loses line breaks and formatting even with “Filter Profanity” on. See also MCPE-230289
