Minecraft Only Loads 75% No Launch

After downloading the Village & Pillage update on 04/23/19 Minecraft will not load. After opening the app, I am taken to the white loading screen with the Minecraft logo and loading bars at the bottom. It will load about 75%, leaving 12 bars black/empty. The graphic for the gray bars above the main loading ones still move up and down. I would assume it is some error when trying to reach the servers. But this screen will sit for 10 whole minutes without doing anything before I close it. I am on an iPad Mini 3.

Thank you!

I’m having exactly the same issue on my ipad. Tried uninstall an reinstall (deleting all data) but without any change. It hangs on the splashscreen again.

migrated

Same problem on my switch and then you hear the music but it repeats the same note for like 2 mins

migrated

My ipad is silent. I’ve tried to keep the minecraft running for several hours but it stays hanging in the splash screen.

migrated

I’ve made the following observations:

1) Uninstall the game

2) Install it again from the app-store

3) Go offline

4) Run the game

5) The game complains about being offline and is rather slow, but it somehow works.

Unfortunatelly as soon as the ipad go online and the game is closed and opened again the game stucks in the splashscreen as described in above comments.

I'm having the same issue with stuck on load

migrated

The problem persists in version 1.11.1 as well.

Thanks Jiri for the comments! I observed that on update 1.11.0 my iPhone would only load 75% on wifi, but when I left wifi and used cellular data it would load and I could finally play the Village & Pillage update.

Now that I have downloaded the 1.11.1 patch, my iPhone is unable to load the game (stays stuck on 75%) wether on wifi or data.

So both iPad and iPhone are only loading to 75% with update 1.11.1.

I think that update 1.11.0 changed something with “game authentication” between Mojang’s server and iOS devices through wifi modems (which is why I was able to authenticate my game on cellular data); and now with the 1.11.1 patch, this authentication error is happening on cellular data as well.

I’m sure they are working on it, crash bugs were fixed for Xbox in 1.11.1 patch, hopefully they will get to iOS soon! I cannot play at all now.

Switch Loads to 75% but if you leave it alone for about 3-9 mins it loads the game but the menu is very laggy

For the record, this issue is duplicated in MCPE-45111

migrated

This issue isn't just with iOS, when I downloaded the update, and it froze in load screen on both my iPad Pro 2nd G and my iPhone 7plus, and my sisters, I tried a friends android Galaxy Tab 4, and it did the same, froze on loading screen.  These new updates have not changed one thing on mine, never improved to 75% nothing, I keep freezing on my loading screen which is an attachment that as Patrick stated this is duplicated in MCPE-45111.  Supposedly the update that was yesterday had something to do with freezing on load screen but did nothing for me.  Been frozen and unable to play Minecraft on my preferred devices.

migrated

Here is a link to the notes on update 1.11.1. It states that nothing for the Switch was included in this update, which leads me to believe Switch and iOS patches will be coming soon.

https://minecraft.gamepedia.com/Bedrock_Edition_1.11.1

There are no notes for patch 1.11.1 that say Mojang was trying to fix this problem. I only bring this up to recognize 1.11.1 as a patch that fulfilled its purpose of resolving other issue aside from this one. So I don’t see it as failing to resolve this issue, because it wasn’t trying to.

My little brother has been able to access the 1.11.0 & 1.11.1 on his Kindle, he also has a Windows 10 tablet, but I don’t think he has tried to play on it since the update.

Thank you Pam for commenting on the Android issue as well!

I had the same problem with a Moto E4 PLus but when the game updated i could play normally until the game crashed and now it keeps loading at 75%

Reports from a newer ticket (MCPE-45449) suggest that this issue is fixed for some users - is anyone still experiencing the crash?

migrated

Yes, this was hanging for me on iOS, but is resolved for me now under the other ticket. Will report back here if anything stops working.

migrated

Yes, my app will still not launch. I have tried what others have done to fix theirs, but had no luck.

@unknown - Which platform are you seeing the crash on, and have you tried changing to/from mobile data/wifi? Also, are you getting exactly the same crash as others, with the same number of loading bars?

Hi Jay,

mine app still does not work. I have iOS (ipad air), the splash screen with exactly the same number of bars as showen in comment above. Unfortunately the ipad is wifi only so I’m unable to test it on mobile data.

migrated

Hi! I had the same issues as everyone has with locking or freezing up on the loading screen which is the picture with the bars and that's all it would do was sit there and do nothing.  I uninstalled Minecraft after saying my worlds because I wasn't ready to give up one of the world for sentimental reasons.  Even after uninstalling, and then re-install I got the frozen loading screen.  So I went to using Windows 10 on my laptop, I have a realm and that no matter what is a world that stays safe even in a uninstall.

I wrote that I got tired of waiting for the update and tried one of the suggestions and it worked.  I first did with my iPhone 7plus, so I loaded Minecraft back on my phone but did not open.  I went in and turned off the wifi so I was using data, I might of downloaded Minecraft that way also, so with wifi off and the reinstall, I then went to the screen and opened Minecraft, it loaded, it went to the screen it freezes on and continued to lead and to opened the Minecraft game, and play.  Ok, that is one device... I don't play on my iPhone 7plus, it's used when I am not at home and don't want to carry my iPad Pro 2nd generation.  So the iPad Pro was next.  Well it already does not have data, so to have data, I tethers or on the iPhone it is call Personal Hotspot.  1st thing is it can not reinstall Minecraft this way, so I put the wifi back on my iPad and first thing was to re-load the Minecraft to my iPad Pro.  When it was loaded, I did not open.  I then took my iPhone 7Plus and connected the iPhone to the iPad through the personal Hotspot, you can go to your bluetooth and open to see that your iPhone is listed and linked to your iPad and the same with the iPad is linked to the iPhone.  You turn the Hotspot on, and then go to the bluetooth to click on the ipad it should connent either ipad to iphone or iphone to the ipad... remember you are not on wifi on your phone you can't be for you personal hotspot to work.  Once it says you are connected at the top of you phone it will say personal hotspot connected 1.  When you have that, now go to your ipad, and go to the Minecraft you just loaded with the update and click on Minecraft to open and update, it should if it will work for you go past the frozen upload and actually install and allow you to open.  It did for me, and I was able to play on my iPad Pro. I did this for 2 days till I realize I dont' think I need to be playing with being connected to the hopspot.  So, I disconnected the personal hotspot on my iPhone and made sure my iPad Pro was on wifi and then went back to Minecraft and clicked on it to open... it did.  It hasn't since needed to be connected to the hotspot, it works, it doesn't crash, and it opens to the other servers and I can play anywhere.  So, I don't know why this worked but it did ...but...

I had also reported that when I couldnt get on the iOS, I tried my friends Android, he had a Galaxy tab, I recently tried to connect it to the personal hotsop on my iphone, and open the reloaded Minecraft.  It would only stay on the frozen loading screen and would not more foreward.  So, don't know why it worked for the one and not the other.  So those of you who do have two devices, try, it does't hurt and the use of data is minimalistic, if you have the data to do that with, if you don't then don't do it.  If you are a minor, ask your parents.

I will re-try the android today and get back to you if there was something new that happened.

If you look above where it says open and tap it, it doesn't say this has been assigned.  Opened yes, assigned no.

Hello I am back again, I told you I would try again to see if I can get the Andriod Galaxy tab to open using the personal hotspot on my iPhone 7 plus.  As stated, I turn of the personal hotspot, and on the Galaxy in settings I go to bluetooth to connect the iPhone 7 plus to the Galaxy, which I did.  Then on the iPhone the hotspot (on Galaxy you have to type in the password given under WiFi Password to connect) is on and it has to use wifi, so I go into the bluetooth and connect to the galaxy.  After a couple of restarts here, I got it connected and so on the top of my iPhone it says Personal Hotspot 1 Connection.  Once connected, I went to the already downloaded from before Minecraft and opened it.  You are on the screen we all freeze on the loading screen with bar, if you watch the bar, it moves, once it stopped but then restarted, the it loaded Minecraft, I connected to Xbox live, chose my skin and I am in my realm right now on the Galaxy tab.  I will turn it off.  I will then disconnect from the personal hotspot and shut it off.  Then on the Galaxy, I will make sure the wifi is on and then when it is on, I will proceed to see if I can turn Minecraft back on without being tethered/hotspot to my iphone.   You have turned off the Personal Hotspot connection and made sure you had on your wifi to you phone.  Then on the Galaxy, in settings because you were connected via the phone you need to put your wifi back to it's original source of wifi and connect.  When it is connected you will go to your Minecraft logo on your screen and open Minecraft... test of time to see if it works... and indeed it did!  It will now open and stay connected to Minecraft, you are now in the new update and your Minecraft will open.  If you try once like I did with this Galaxy tab, try again later or next day, it should work, I got to repeat myself... I don't know why!   But guys and girls ... you will be back up and using Minecraft... whether they update and fix or not you are in and working.  If questions please ask here.  Thank and enjoy.

I am up and running since I had did the offline connections to load the Minecraft update.  But, I had saved my world(s) and had deleted Minecraft and reloaded the game before I did anything, I don't know if that makes a difference or not. But, the route I got it has worked ever since I did it on my iPhone 7 plus, and my iPad Pro 2nd generation, and also on my friends Galaxy tab 4.  My sister hasn't left me do her update yet, so don't know if anything has changed to not allow this to work... but I agree I believe it is some mess up with the wifi connections that  Aubrey mentions on April 27th.  Because I am not using wifi technically with how I downloaded I believe I am using data.  But, if you have the game on your device and so whether you deleted Minecraft and reinstalled,  in the reinstall where your in ap and it says to open Minecraft from there, don't.  When you got to the homepage where  your Minecraft ap sits don't open there either, yet.  With the reinstall or even if you just did the download of the update onto your device... don't open in wifi.

Take your phone because you are going to use your data to do the the rest.  In you phone settings find where you have either tether another device to your phone or with iOS it is personal hotspot.  You are going to turn this on, then you are going to bluetooth connect your tablet or whatever device you are wanting to update with the device you are using the data from whether your own phone if tablet or if you only play on a phone then maybe your siblings or parents, with their permission of course and since uses data have permissions to use the data to do the update.  You not on for long but it will be data used.  At least what I can figure one device does while other is on wifi.  When you have connected your say ipad to the iphone with the bluetooth and personal hotspot, it will say at the top of your phone you have 1 personal hotspot connection.  So, that means your ipad is connected to your iphone (android is a little different but I have not done android phone with data to android tablet or phone, even the Galaxy Tab 4 was done using my iPhone 7 plus to use the data... just for a side note).  Now that you are running off of your iPhone, you go to the iPad and go to the Minecraft ap on your homepage or where you store it and now is when you 1st open it up for it to download the update.  When the download is complete and you can open Minecraft, and you are still connected to xbox live, go ahead and open.  If you had worlds, or realms on you device they should come up, if you deleted everything then you will create a new world.  It will take a bit longer to 3rd party connect with multiplayer servers but it will pick up the multiplayer servers you were previously playing on if you were playing on other servers.  When you open your world and can get in to play.  You can close.  Disconnect from the hotspot, and switch back to wifi usage... when you open Minecraft it should open like you never had a problem before, it should not freeze anywhere, you should be able to open and play just like you always use to.  Just remember to disconnect from the data source you are using verses continue since in to play, because you will be on data vs wifi, you need to shut down disconnect from data and turn your wifi back on.

With iphone iOS with android, it works much the same just that the android will ask for a code to use to connect to your the iPhone, you put in the code that the iPhone has for you to put in and then you should be connected, as I stated on the iPhone it will state at top of screen that you have 1 personal hotspot connected.  So you just have to put in a code being that it is iOS to android..  But the rest works the same.    I did not use my friends android to do a android to android connection so, can't tell you if that would be much different than what I already did.

All I can say is:  It should work.   I have been playing without any issues since May 6th... so, it is worth a try if you want to get into playing but have permissions in place or parent assist if need.

Same problem on a brand new purchase of Minecraft made yesterday on iPad Pro 12.9 (2018). Will try the WiFi workaround.

Same problem here. Minecraft purchased two days ago, and not working on iPad Pro 9.5 and iPhone 6s.

Same issue here on iPad 6 with IOS 12.2

Rune S ... glad to help with a workaround solution that does work.

More need to try, all you need is another device that has data, to do the work around solution that really works.  You need to use data to do the actual upload to bypass the freezing up it does under wifi, once in you don't have to ever go back to using data, you can go back to normal wifi usage.  The process isn't difficult to do and only takes a few minutes.

So, if you tried the workaround solution to get the new update working please post that you used and it worked so that more players can decide to be brave enough to do it with parental permission if needed.

Good playing Rune S.

Hi - slightly different problem here. My daughter is running Minecraft 11.1.3 on her 5th gen iPad (iOS 12.3). About a week ago the app started freezing on the white load screen with one bar remaining. Now the problem has ... evolved? We are able to get to the menu screen, but after approximately 5 seconds the screen freezes. No clickable buttons, no response, no anything. We have tried Rune S’s workaround (connecting via my iphone’s Hotspot using data) and nothing changed - restarted/updated everything. The only thing we haven’t done is delete the app because a) it doesn’t seem to work, from what I’ve read online? and b) losing all of her worlds would make my kid cry. Help?

Kelly, if she wants to save her worlds, you will need to do a iTunes backup of her worlds , which requires you to connect her ipad to a pc or laptop.  You can google: Minecraft worlds backup for iOS  and you will find instructions do to this.  There is one there titled Save the World: Minecraft PE by Gosse Adela, he gives instructions for android and iOS. So follow those instructions, you will use your iOS cable that you charge with but plug it into a computer, but have a fully charged ipad, because you don’t have a power source to your ipad and depending on how many worlds she has and the size of each world it takes a long time to do. I was almost dead when it finished but i had quite a few worlds and fairly good size ones.  The worlds will then be stored on your pc in a file and you can download them back to her ipad after she is able to get back up and running.  I haven’t done this yet... i had a realm and Minecraft keeps it stored and updated so we were playing there.  It is a good thing to do and learn to do, my friend who is more tech savvy actually did all the hook ups to my laptop and set up the file for me.  If worried about running out of charge in the midst of it downloading to the pc or laptop, there is a connector you can buy fairly inexpensive that allows you to be plugged into your power source and has the 2nd slot or cable(so like a dual cable) that plugs into the pc/laptop, so it is one cable, with two branches off, one the main end plugs into power source 1 branch has the iOS plug for your iOS device and the other has the same end as the power source but plugs into the pc/laptop.  It is a option to get if the worlds are numerous and big.  If you can get into minecraft she could delete worlds she didn’t want or use anymore, if can she could do that first and save the rest, i couldn’t was froze in download screen so i had to save all.  I think his instructions is what we used, and all went well... good luck.  If stuck, can ask here, i couldn’t answer but could get my friend to.

Just a note, I had my iOS iPad Pro up and running with the wifi work around, then the recent 1.11.3 updated was issued i waited a day or two before updating and when I did it put my iPad Pro back into froze in the upload screen, since I haven’t reloaded my worlds after saving and been playing on my realm or a server, I decided since no one had an issues I decided to update ... NOT... I was back to the froze upload screen.  I had to go back, delete Minecraft reload with update, and finish with the wifi work around to get me back up and running.  This time it too longer to do, but was able to finally get Minecraft to open without freezing.  But this time after initial freeze on the load screen  and had to start over, like two or 3 time because it would load and get past the load screen and freeze somewhere else, even froze on changing my skin from the Steve skin, since it eliminated my skin.   So even this last update put mine back to the froze stage, but the workaround did work again, just took longer with multiple freezes elsewhere in the loading up.

migrated

I had the exact same problem on iPad Mini2, and I saw the workaround above in this comments but I didn’t have another device. So I tried just switching off the wifi and booting Minecraft, and that actually worked! I have no problem turning on the wifi and playing after that. I have to turn off wifi every time opening Minecraft though.

Alexa, that is awesome, any information that helps others be able to get to play Minecraft till it is repaired with an update is great.  Because you don't have the 2nd device and that works is great.  With the 2nd device once I am in and don't freeze any longer, I don't have to go off wifi to get back in, it continues to work like the update flaws were not there from beginning of updating.  So, I don't have to change setting to get back in.  But, glad you found a way for those with one device to get Minecraft up and running.

migrated

Alexa is right. It is a network problem. I changed the wifi i was connected to and then Minecraft loaded again. Even if i use the old one it still works now but sometimes it happens again and the solution is still the same thing.

The update from yesterday seemed to have fixed the problem for me

migrated

The update from yesterday has not fixed the problem for me. I have been unable to play for ~3 weeks now, previously I could launch the game for a short time (5 minutes max) and then it would freeze and I would have to press the home button and close the app. I am using a iPhone SE, updated to the latest version. Disconnecting from WiFi does not help. It always reaches the very last bar when loading using WiFi, when trying without WiFi I just get a white screen after the "Mojang" logo comes up. Please keep me updated because I really would like to play!

migrated

I did not try to update to the recent version because I am tired of it going back on froze on loading page, I want it just fixed. But I suppose I will Tomorrow it is the only way to know if a update worked or crashed us again.

Justerfrog

turn the device off and back on - i am not joking, it happened to me and that fixed it.

migrated

Turning the device off and back on allowed me to open the app - but it froze after I clicked "Play". When I attempted to reopen the app, it kept freezing at the Mojang logo with 1 bar left.

migrated

I did the current update and it’s the first that didn’t send me back to freezing up, so it worked and I didn’t have to go back to the work around solution to get into Minecraft, a first!

Zephlyn, did you try the work around that many of us tried and does work... but you need 2 devices, which I know everyone doesn’t have.  But the 2nd device can be a parent or sibling or even a friend... they just need to let you do it using their data, wifi won’t allow the update to update and open, you need to open the update on data.   Do put the update on your device on wifi, which takes the most time, then do not open whether in ap or where your Minecraft logo is on your home page or where kept. This is when the 2nd device and the use of data needs to be used.  Just remember what ever device is used for the data, you will be using the data, so if have a limited data program, make sure you ask or know you have enough to use.  Your device being in wifi or not doesn’t matter, it like being bluetooth but not.  The instruction on how to do this is above under me, so i won’t type again.  For me whether iOS, which were my devices and my sisters, but i was also able to do on my friends android, Galaxy Tab 4, mine were a Apple iPhone 7plus and a iPad Pro 12.9, as is my sisters.  All worked to get Minecraft up and running. You being iOS doesn’t require another iOS to do, but if doesn’t work because you have your worlds still on, then you need to save your world(s)and delete Minecraft, then shut down your device completely after clearing open apps for memory and do after you turn back on your device.  The with wifi go to ap store and upload Minecraft, when done.. stop... don’t open. this is done only on data... so follow the instructions you will find above under my name... if haven’t try and have 2nd device, try it may be what lefts you back in Minecraft.  Good luck.

Using data my app opens, but freezes on the start page. When I tried closing and reopening, it froze at the last bar yet again. When I tried connecting to WiFi, it launched the first time and then froze on the start page, and every time after that would freeze on the last bar. Essentially, that workaround almost worked, but didn't.

migrated

Using a hotspot from a second device, not data, sorry ^

migrated

Did you remove your old worlds by saying to a pc or laptop and the delete the minecraft from your device first. Then close all open aps and shut off your device for a few minutes to clear everything? Then on wifi download Minecraft again which will have the updated version. Must do on wifi wont load on data only. Now dont open. Set up hotspot, that will put the device using the hotspot from out of wifi into data and you will show up in Bluetooth as connected and hotspot will say 1 connected. When it does you take your device and go to Minecraft and open this will download everything and should open. If freezes, start over, clear everything and start again.
The last update prior to this put me back to the froze download screen and i had to do the process I think 3 times it loaded then froze and then froze next time further down the way till it opened completely. I would try more than once. It may open it seems like it intends to but gets hung up.

Wow, last time I updated was 26/May/19... well, just for Mojang and well everyone I guess, even though the workaround going off of WiFi works for me it is not a permanent fix to this issue.  I have had 2 or 3 more times since then that I had to delete Minecraft and start over uploading Minecraft again using the workaround without WiFi.  So, that means that the problem Mojang has with at least Apple ios is not fixed.  Only one update since the one that started all of this for ios worked loading without a freeze, the others took you only uploading and then freeze screen and nothing, the last wasn't because of doing an update and it occurred in my realm.  It was fine and then it kicked me out, no message why.  I went back in, and it now gave me a message that stated "Unable to connect to world",  ok weird, so tried again... and then gave me a message that stated "You are not invited to play on this server."  Ok... I own the realm and it says I the owner is not invited to play on this server... not nice at all.  Minecraft support didn't have a clue and told me to reload, delete and reload, and ya, I know all that, so to help there.  I had did the relog, and then again deleted Minecraft and reload, and it froze on the upload page.  I tried first time with wifi and the 2nd time using the workaround, and did my iphone 7 plus first since no world on it yet, and it did work but it would still give me the message this time "Unable to connect to world", I check with the others that I have in the realm and none of them could join.  I then went on to the Mojang website and reported the realm failure and that evening I got in, don't know if anyone fixed in the meantime but I am up and running.  I cannot safely add any of my old worlds to my devices that i removed and saved with this issue with ios users and Minecraft. I am just glad I didn't have to remove the 1 world I had created since that update since I start with my iphone to see if I can get working there first, then go to my ipad pro 12.9.  So, it still needs to have a find and fix... still a big time problem.

You must have updated an android... because the ios update wasn't released yet, is that correct?  I am also wondering if anyone with ios has done the update to see if they crash... I have been staying away from the update for that reason incase the work around solution doesn't work for this update.  I guess it is time to find out.  But, if your crashing on update, it would be most beneficial to the rest of us if you say the device you updated on that the crash occured, and whether is is android or ios.  Thank you.  It is very sad to see that the crash is still occuring with the future updates past the villagers and pillagers update 1.11 back in April 2019.

@Pam Rugg No. The iOS update released yesterday. I use an Apple device. To be specific, an iPad 5th generation on iPadOS 13.1.

After I updated, the screen respectively stays at the loading screen and remains like that for about 15 minutes. I later deleted it then reinstalled it with no wifi, but it later got past the loading screen. However, once you open it the second time, it will like before, stay on the loading screen forever.

@Bubblixia did you ever get in or are you still froze out.  Trying to determine if it is worth my time to be kicked out of everything till I can get out of the freeze loading screen again.  Out of all of the updates since and including the 1.11 i have only had 2 i didnt have to do the work around to get out of the freeze.  Haven’t read much better with checking the Minecraft Discord.  Says there is issues with the Realms also and I live in my realm most of the time over my other 2 worlds, so don’t know if I should wait or just dive in and take the chance I will back to a loading screen frozen.  I do it’s do or die either way, it works or it doesn’t.  Thx for the update.  Would like to hear if you got in and is playing.

I downloaded Minecraft Pocket Edition onto our 4th generation IPAD with IOS Version 10.3.3 for my son's birthday.  I paid $9.99 on the APP Store.

My son is devastated.

After doing a search for the same issue on your website I found a ticket that lead me to this ticket.  I don't have time to read through all the comments...my brain isn't wired to handle that.

All I want is for my child to enjoy this game he was so very excited about.  OR to get my money back.  Looks like this issue has been REOPENED and was initiated some time ago....so I'm going with the latter.

How does my son get his money back?

@Pam Rugg It never crashes while loading or using the app. It just doesn’t go past the loading screen, and when it does, it will stop loading the next time you open it.

On my sister’s iPad 4 iOS 10.3.3 it opens the white screen and crashes immediately.

Well I was forced to update i’d I wanted to play in my realm... so not fair.  I pay to have my realm and to force an update to play there is just not nice.  So it was time to have to see if I was going to crash with this update.  Well, this time I didn’t.  I downloaded the update and a few minutes after I downloaded it and waited, surprising I made it through a clean download, no freezing and no work around solution of doing it with data and a tethered line... was surprised.  All seems to be working fine, in realm, I haven’t went into just a world as of yet, but should.  It takes awhile after you leave the game to upload to get back into but no crashing.  I don’t know what made this time different from any of the others, I play on a Apple iPad Pro 12.9 1st generation, and since I didn’t check my cell phone, the app auto updates on my phone where I do t on my ipad for these reasons of why were are here, and so finished the download and it worked perfectly fine also.  For me what is new is I can now get into my realm also on my iPhone 7 plus, had to have it’s own world it always was it’s own entity and never what I have on my ipad, so surprised it linked.

This bug is still occuring on 1.14 but it stops at around 66%.

The same just occurred for me, for the first time. I see lots of related “resolved” tickets but not an actual solution. Can someone please point me to one?

I was just using Minecraft PE for iOS yesterday on my iPad Air 2,  version 13.3. I have not updated recently and it is not due for an update.

App Store does not say Minecraft was updated recently, nor does it say an update is available. I believe I was running 1.14.1.

I have tried disabling WiFi. I have tried deleting some other apps in case it was a memory issue. I tried turning off and restarting device. I’d try reinstalling MCPE but don’t want to lose all my data.

This bug still occurs on version 1.14.1. This started happening on the evening of Jan 17 2020 for me. It is affecting Minecraft on all my iOS devices (iPhone 8, iPad Pro 11” 2018, iPad Mini 5). It is not impacting Minecraft on my Nintendo Switch. It appears to be related to WiFi in some way. I tried using my phone’s cellular as a hotspot to load the game on my iPad Pro and it did not work. I was able to get the game to load on my iPhone after it had previously been freezing by turning off the WiFi and only using cellular data.

*update* I turned WiFi back on my iPhone that was working on cellular and the game went back to freezing on load. I’m not having any network issues that I’m aware of. I have not made any recent changes to my router or modem. I have an Orbi router if that matters.

Looking at the network traffic and when the hang occurs, it's always a POST request to `vortex.data.microsoft.com/collect/v1` which returns a 401. At first glance, the request body looks like telemetry/beacon data but it appears that it at least needs a 2xx response to continue loading. If I rewrite the response from this request to return a 200, the game will actually load and get me to the main screen and display a banner that says "failed to load character 3". What's unusual is that the gamer tag is a previous gamer tag and not the account's current gamer tag. My guess is that credentials or account info is in an inconsistent state that Minecraft barfs on. If I try and click on 'Profile' -> '<my gamertag>'s Packs' at the top, the screen gets darker, but nothings happens. At the same time, there are a bunch more `vortex.data.microsoft.com/collect/v1` requests but then the game is just stuck. Looks like I need to be authenticated to get a valid response from this endpoint to make further progress.

I deleted the app and tried installing again. This time the game loads. 'Microsoft Account' dialog pops up and I click 'Sign In For Free'. I then click 'Save to Microsoft Account' and a 'Signing in with your Microsoft Account' dialog starts popping up with another dialog saying there's an update for '1.14.0'? (sorry, didn't make a note of the actual version). and then the game freezes. I force quit the app and tried launching again and it still hangs at the same  `vortex.data.microsoft.com/collect/v1` call trying to send (`{"ver":"2.1","name":"Microsoft.XboxLive.T1810924247.SignInToXboxLive" ....`).

I see some appcenter crash report/analytics requests tied to Minecraft but there doesn't appear to be any meaningful information other than it beaconing the app crashed. I see some other strange requests around icloud that I thought might be a sync issue but that's speculative.

I'm hoping this helps. I'm hesitant to attach networking traces out of PII/security concerns but I haven't really inspected the data too closely other than I see there are session, client, and user ids present.

Cheers

Is there client logging that can be fetched from the iOS OS or the Minecraft App that we can use to troubleshoot this issue?

joe`

I was just able to resolve this issue on iPad iOS by resetting the client's time.   It was set to 1/31 despite it being 2/2.   I changed the time to the current time, and was able to start Minecraft without a crash.

Please keep this open as a bug.  Clients should not be a source of truth for time and time conflicts should fail gracefully when authenticating with a server rather then produce a fatal crash of an application.

how do you do any of that plz tell us it will help me a lot thanks

only physical version of the game on switch and it takes nearly 5 mins to get to the main menu

Long loading

not sure this is the same as a hang seeing its only effecting my physical copies but the admin said it was a duplicate issue?

I have the same issue as Paul Ellis on my digital copy of Minecraft for Nintendo Switch.

It seems like v1.14.30 has resolved this issue. If it doesn’t, then try double-checking your version for Minecraft.

I have this issue now with iPad 4 mini where Minecraft will simply not load... in fact the app crashes/closes after sitting at about 75% loaded.

iPad 4 Mini has recently upgraded iOS to 13.5 and the Minecraft version is the latest 1.14.60.

I have done a hard restart and and shutdown.  Tried running without Wifi on too and nothing changes the fact it wont load.

I have another iPad Mini 4 that has not done the 13.5 upgrade for iOS and it loads fine with the 1.14.60 version of Minecraft.

UPDATE: I did an uninstall and reinstall (which lost my son's local worlds) but it did start working again (lucky for us our most important world is on a local server install)

Appears to still be an issue, MCPE-117751. However I don't know if it is the same cause.}

Edit: I compared the progress of MCPE-117731, MCPE-117751, and this bug, and the progress bars between the three are all stuck at different levels. MCPE-58897 is also stuck at an earlier point than all three of these bugs. There could be different bugs causing the progress bar to not go further, or there could be underlying issues to explain a combination (or all) of the progress bar "stuck points".
