Thank you for this information. I did not realize that this was a feature. I can safely go to other villages and I have increased my popularity so they don't kill me anymore.
It is still an issue in 1.18.2
It is also in 1.17.41 release
I am having this same issue. Friends have told me they have it too.
Launches perfectly fine on my computer. Maybe provide more info so people can help.
