on some places in the night there's coming out of nowhere some light. it looks like it's coming from a torch, but i dont see one. as far as i know, the bug occurs since 1.6.2. i don't know if it's longer, because i never paid attention to it.

Ok, reopened.
Steps to reproduce ?
Can you zip or 7Z a world and attach it here ?
i guess. the problem is my pc chrashed this afternoon. i need to reproduce it first by my self, and then i send the world. (sorry for bad english, i'm dutch)

Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
I have no idea. i guess it's better to close it till someone finds the resolution. i'm still working on reproduce steps, but i can't work on it the next 2 weeks, because i'm also a D.J and i have a performance soon.
my friend has an server with these bugs. i have downloaded the map and i'll put it in here. coordinates are in the (new) screenshots.
by the way the map is called minecraft_server, it isn't the whole server

The attached world does not show this phaenomenon, there is simply the biome "swampland" (darker texture) changing with biome "river" (lighter texture)
if you put this in singleplayer mode, you will spawn right in one of those spots

That's what I did.
Look at screenshots. 3 of them are in biome "Swamp", one is biome "River".
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 1.7.2 / Launcher version 1.3.4 ? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
i'll update it as soon as i know it. (unfortunally) i haven't played the game for a while now, because i'm also working on my album. but i'm playing it as much as i can!
this bug still occurs in the new versions, and development builds. the map that's included (it's a 1.6.2 map) still shows the bug in 13w48b,.
Is this still a concern in the current Minecraft version 14w11b / Launcher version 1.3.11 or later? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.
Relates to MC-30939

What? You just repeated what Gary said.
Confirmed for 14w25b

Is this still a concern in the latest Minecraft version 1.8-pre1? If so, please update the affected versions in order to best aid Mojang ensuring bugs are still valid in the latest releases/pre-releases.

Natural ghost lighting (not from fires, nether portals etc.) appears to be fixed.
I manage to achieve this bug with the /fill command
There are no lights in the building on the right
Lights are on in the building on the left (OFF in the last screenshot by me, no lights both rooms), but not close enough to interfere with the bug (in the dark center there is 0 block light)
Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS Intel Integrated Graphics MC 1.8

MC-71369 seems to be a regression (1.8) of this issue.
Dupe of/relates to MC-3961.

Is this still an issue in the most recent versions (i.e. 1.10.2, or 16w42a) of Minecraft?
Confirmed for 1.12.1
Confirmed for 1.13.1.
Hi, sorry for not updating this for a long time. I haven't paid much attention to the bug anymore and kind of thought it would have been resolved by now.
I can however confirm the bug is still present. I've loaded up the attached world in 1.13.2. Replacing the grass blocks where the weird lighting spots are does not make it go away.
As visible in the screenshots 08112918-4.png, 08112918-5.png and 08112918-6.png which i took today, it is also visible that the weird spots seem to behave like a 2D column, stretching up (and presumably also down. I have not tested that yet but i definetly will).
A few notable things though, is that the lighting only affects the grass, and not stone blocks or wood. And even though it is still clearly visible, the lighting is much softer and less yellow as back in the day when i discovered the bug. You can also see it casts a shadow on underneath blocks. And the shadow goes away when the blocks above are destroyed
So the things i've tried today summed up:
-Place a torch in/next to the spots. The difference is clearly visible (08112918-8/08112918-9.png) and the spots even overlap the lighting of the torch. Destroying the torch will not make the spots go away, but they won't become any worse.
-Build into the height and use different blocks. The result of this is that going into the height will not change the shape of the spots, and the brightness is the same over the Y axis is the same. It also only affects grass blocks, and casts a shadow on the blocks beneath the blocks.
-Doing the above things in both Survival and Creative where survival mode ran in single player mode and creative mode in an open to lan server.
I've got these results on a 2012 MacBook Pro 13.3 inch with an intel i5 3210M, 12 GB of ram and an Intel HD 4000 graphics card. The operating system used is Windows 10 Educational, build 1803.
I'll be trying to fully reproduce this bug again soon.

I've had this since 1.13.2. There will be single random blocks of grass, tree stumps, or saplings emitting light in a pitch dark forest at night.
Confirmed for 1.14 (currently in 19w04b)
It appears to have come up again! I thought this stuff was fixed ;(

confirmed in 19w05a and 06a.
If /fill ~-10 ~-1 ~-10 ~10 ~3 ~10 stone hollow, you'll find it's bright somewhere inside.
This bug is still entirely present. I have a few dark rooms and every time I log in to the game I have to go in and fix the light problem.
A workaround for now:
If you replace the affected air blocks (or air blocks neighboring the affected ones) with leaves through a command, the leaves will decay away and slowly return the lighting to the expected state. However, this is only temporary and leaves you with a lot of saplings, sticks, and potentially apples on the ground.
This does not work if you use a non-decaying block, as it will not update.
Happened to me in the current snapshot (19w13b) but with the sky lighting, I can fix it by placing blocks in places, where light level is 14, but I can't be bothered --
This exact bug is affecting me too in 1.14.2. I have a completely closed room, no half blocks or anything. The room shows sky light level 14 in every single block. I can fill it completely with blocks to fix this, but it comes back every day.
I have a similar issue with a mob farm I built, The farm levels will be 0 light, but when unloading an loading the chunks, there is a chance that random light will appear on the mob farm levels and I have to clear the cache of the world and run it again to have it reset to normal... This is very irritating
Please check if this still issue in 1.16.2

Is this still an issue in 1.16.3 or later?
Confirmed in 1.16.3, and have been observing this bug for years across many different game versions. I've had various sources of this "phantom light" appearing in a completely sealed underground room. Most I was able to fill up with blocks, but one source won't go away even when I completely fill in the space it's occupying. Sometimes, the light seems to be emanating from a solid block, and will only go away if I break that block.
I can also confirm that this does happen in 1.16.3. Had it happen on a Multiplayer server in a area that was full of torches.
Can confirm that this is still an issue in 20w51a.
I had encountered this bug
Added 4 new screenshots. Taken in 1.16.4 on a spigot server i test stuff in with my friends.
The light overlay and the information top right is from MiniHud
Can confirm in vanilla 1.16.5 and 21w03a.
@unknown, please check in vanilla in the future; issues with modded clients, servers or launchers aren't valid.
Can confirm in 21w05b.

Can confirm in 1.17, found this issue in a mineshaft. Edit: nevermind, that is a different issue.
Can confirm in 1.18.1.

A lot of the pictures provided are not actually showing the bug and are actually just different coloured grass due to there being a river biome that generated as part of the swamp.

Someone please check if this can still be reproduced in 23w17a.

Can confirm in 25w03a. This lighting glitch appeared during world generation with no player input.

However, I cannot reproduce it using the same seed and coordinates that this was encountered in.
