Severe Overheating and Battery Drain on iOS

Battery drainage and severe overheating issue happen to my phone as I was just wandering around in a creative mode world. My battery has decreased from 69% to 62% within 4 minutes of playing. Both my Minecraft: Bedrock Edition and also IOS system are up to date. This issue does not happen while I’m playing other games like Mobile Legends. I have already tried the following troubleshooting methods:

Lowering render distance to 6

Disabling Smooth lighting, Fancy graphics, beautiful skies and other advanced graphic settings.

Reinstalling Minecraft (twice)

Using an external cooling fan

Removing my phone case

Device model: IPhone 15 Pro

IOS version: 18.3.2

Minecraft version: 1.21.62

The game should not cause excessive heat or battery drainage under normal conditions.

I have also encountered this issue. It appears to be related to WIFI connectivity when playing. With WiFi disabled, I don’t encounter excessive overheating or battery drain.

I can confirm this issue on M1 iPad Pro (11-inch, 3rd generation), MCBE 1.21.72, iPadOS 18.3.2. MCBE drains 50% of the battery within just an hour, and no other applications do that.

I play MCBE exclusively on a BDS server at the moment, so at first I thought it was due to excessive network activity caused by the now-enforced “server-auth-with-rewind” mode. But I heard from other iOS users that the problem also happens while playing on a singleplayer world, apparently disproving my theory.

Hi!
Could you let us know if you have any other applications open while playing?
Could you also let us know what are your graphic settings for the game and are you using any
Add-ons or Resource Packs?

Similar to the comment above, I’ve noticed the issue stops when I disconnect from WiFi. I’m using an iPad Pro 11” (m4). I’m not using any resource packs or add-ons.

Hi and thank you for the response!

How was the device behaving in older versions?
Was this the issue since 1.21.62, as reported?

@Mega_Spud: The game doesn’t crash though…?

Ok this is getting severe now. I can’t play anymore because my screen gets so hot after just 5 minutes that it kinda actually burns my thumb when I play for too long. It feels like it’s gonna melt my screen off, I’m not exaggerating.

This still affects 1.21.81. In fact it became far worse as of 1.21.80. My iPad becomes alarmingly hot only after 5 minutes or so.

UPDATE: issue still present in 1.21.92. The screen seems to heat up the most for some reason, more than the back of the phone. Obviously I use my thumbs to play but now it’s becoming unplayable because the screen is so hot it’s burning my thumbs. I’m not even using vibrant visuals and the screen goes dim after 5 minutes of gameplay.
