Farmer villagers not harvesting or planting crops

Note

We have confirmed that farmers will not harvest until they already have something in their inventory that they can plant, as reported by this user comment.

Additional reasons they won't harvest or plant, which are not bugs, include:

  • The mob griefing gamerule is toggled off. Like endermen picking up grass, when farmers pick crops it's considered griefing.

  • It's not their working hours. Farmers will only harvest and sow during their working hours (that is, times 00000–07999 and 10000–10999 as given by /time query daytime). This excludes their scheduled times for mingling, going home after work, and sleeping.

  • It's raining. Villagers don't work when it's raining, instead they look for shelter (a solid block they can stand under). For farmers, this means they won't sow or harvest even if the crops are under cover with them. (If they're unable to find shelter, farmers will continue to harvest. We don't know whether this is intended behavior or a bug.)

Please limit comments to new information about harvesting and planting. You may search for/create separate tickets for other issues with villager behavior.

Os moradores da fazenda chegam à frente de seus compositores e simplesmente ficam parados...

  • Farm villagers are not harvesting or planting their seeds

NEW‼

I decided to put here the seed of the world and the position of the village, to help correct the mistake

Seed: 1584878655

Village location: 2361, 78, 1855

UPDATE

I went back to my world, to see if another mistake was happening

I decided to break the seeds planted, to see if the villager replanted another one in place

What happened was that the villager did not replant any seeds, as he had not harvested the others before, to obtain more seeds

But, if the player drops seeds for the farmer, he will plant the seed ..... but, when they are ready to be collected, he does not take them. Only, he is in the same position behind the composter

I created another video to show this

Farmers do not "use" the composter to make bonemeal. Villagers working at workstations just means they stand by the workstation for part of the day. Farmers harvest crops at random times during the day. Hitting them will only lower your popularity in the village.

Do you have mob griefing turned off?

Ok, I'm sorry to say that farmers used composters, I thought that this parity had been added here just like Java.

(Can you add the farmer's function to make bone meal in the composter in Bedrock 1.16? After all, Java only received this function as of version 1.16)

In that world I was in survival and I found this village. I stayed there for 3 days making exchanges with the villagers (including the farmer), but I realized that they DID NOT REFUEL.

Then I went into creative mode and realized that they arrived at their crops and stood motionless looking at the composter without harvesting anything.

At no point did I see them harvesting, so much so if you see the images / video you can see, that the seeds have already reached their maximum "growth" ready to be collected, but no one has harvested anything.

(It is worth remembering that now in 1.16.63 Beta, the farmer will harvest the crops, regardless of the amount they have in the inventory)

My mob griefing is on, so I don't know what could be making this happen ...

Here are some more things we've learned about how farmers plant and harvest:

  • A farmer will only harvest a crop if it can replace it with a seed or seed crop from its inventory.

  • When it has a choice of bare farmland or a crop it can harvest and replace, the farmer will plant on bare farmland. However, it looks at the closest blocks first, so it may harvest and replace a crop despite there being a bare farmland block a little farther away.

Note that if you introduce a farmer into a field with a mixture of bare farmland and mature crops, and you only give it one or two items to plant, it might plant them on bare farmland and then have nothing left to replace harvested crops nearby. When this happens, it won't harvest those crops. To solve this problem, you just need to give the farmer a few more items it can plant as replacements.

Hi!

I disappeared for a while but went back to playing minecraft and I can say:

Farmer villagers are still broken
They stop in front of the composter and simply do nothing

They neither harvest nor plant.

And This situation affects 1.17.40.21 and all previous betas!
