Unable to enter new text upon removing formatting (Username bug)

I get that this isn't a bug and works as intended, but how do you fix it if you have already done it? If there is no cursor and no text, how can you change your name to something that works?

I'm reopening and assigning this issue.

The problem is not that players are being disconnected from servers because colors in names are invalid characters (see MCPE-8736 for that one).

The problem for this ticket and all related to it is players cannot edit their names in the options after they have tried removing colors from those names. Accordingly, this bug prevents users from changing their names ever. The current temporary solution is to replace options.txt with a clean version (e.g. change the name manually in there, get one from a friend, etc.) or to uninstall and reinstall the game (this does not delete your worlds). I suspect iOS devices will have to go the uninstall/reinstall route.

Adding Illidicia's comment (suggesting uninstall/reinstall isn't necessary for "newer, up-to-date" iOS devices). She's much better on iOS since I'm purely on Android so far.

It is worth noting that this issue is not specific to colored text, or the username bar. Any formatting (colored, italic/bold) can be cause this issue, anywhere in the app users have the ability to enter such.

A fix should be implemented in the next release. See this comment by @unknown for more information.

Shoghi, I tried your trick about typing lots of letters and then erasing them but it still doesn't work! Please fix this bug soon! I want to be able to go back in servers.

This is one of the worst bugs ever. It doesn't let us in servers: "Invalid username" and you can't write something in the chat ( it shows just <). Only thing you can do is go in your worlds. This bug should be fixed very soon. Since I have this bug, I almost don't play Minecraft at all.

This happened to me in v.0.11.1 when I entered 2 § consecutively. It is blank, no colored lines you can see to mark where the digit typed will be placed.

I am so mad, the 0.12.0 update was supposed to be yesterday with bug fixes for this bug and guess what, it's be delayed. Now, my favourite server has come back online and I am not able to join. Please fix this soon. I am getting REALLY annoyed about this bug and I have enough. I want to see my friends again in the servers. I can also confirm this bug on an iPad 4 with Retina Display.

This happened to me yesterday I got so mad and I tried restarting my IPad 2 but it still didn't work and I recently built a FNAF world and I don't want to delete it I'm so mad that I wish the new update came out soon to fix this.

Same here. I am mad about this for like a month and there is still like a week left before the update comes in August. If it's delayed to September..😡😡 Cause come on.. This bug doesn't let you join local multiplayer worlds and servers. You are kinda lonely with a chat that is blank a blank username and your worlds.

well sorry to tell you but the update may come in September but it will be like the first week. This is one of the worst bugs I seen that basically doesn't let you play the game 😞
