Oops, apparently the search engine sucks, because I searched for a full 10 minutes for a bug like this and didn't find one. I reported this bug as MC-98193. Someone please mark that as a duplicate...
Anyway, I was able to get it to happen with guardian laser sounds as well (accidentally), so that proves that this bug affects all sounds, not just music. I have two videos of this bug, which I will link below. I also have a theory as to why this is happening:
For some reason, when you exit a world when a sound is playing, the sound channel is not unloaded upon exiting the world. When you log back in to the world, the sound channel starts over then gets bugged, not responding to commands to pause or remove it. I have captured this evidence by enabling debug logging and uploading the log file on my MC-98193 ticket.

I have gathered video of this bug in action, though I was also experiencing another very peculiar bug that could be related. I considered creating a separate ticket for this, but decided against it.

I noticed when messing about in 1.9-pre3 that two songs were playing simultaneously. After opening my recording software, I proceeded to mess around more, playing with the audio settings and going in and out of that world multiple times.
One of the two songs I originally noticed playing together would not pause itself when the game was paused, or when I went back and forth between the main menu and the world. Furthermore, I could not turn off that song with the music slider, even though the other song was affected by it. Adjusting the main audio slider would affect both songs.
I went back into the world and flew around until I was near a guardian temple. Annoyed by all the noise, I attempted to use a /kill command to kill the guardians so I could focus on the music. Then, I noticed that by doing so I had somehow managed to make the guardian laser noise repeat itself indefinitely, similar to that first song.
By the end of the video I manage to get 3-4 songs playing simultaneously (it got difficult to tell how many there were) plus the guardian noise. The only way I was able to stop it was to restart the game.
So... What the heck is going on!?
I wasn't saying it was a Windows 10-specific problem, I was just using that specific behavior of Windows 10 to prove that something makes it think it is maximized.
Added more screenshots to be more current
I have reason to believe I have discovered the cause of this issue, and I have substantial proof to back it up:
When you open any window in Windows 10 the title bar has perfectly square buttons. However, if you maximize a non-universal (aka Win32) application, the title bar's proportions change and the buttons become wider than they are tall. I believe that when you take the game out of fullscreen the window thinks its maximized, even though it obviously is not. My proof is that when the window is in the bugged state the title bar is proportioned as if it is maximized. See the pictures I attached.
Confirmed on a world generated in 15w47c.
That's because it was a bug in the latest 1.9 snapshot.
I didn't use any mods or such - I got them out of the creative mode inventory.
I can confirm that this has finally been fixed. If the dragon gets killed elsewhere it will begin blowing up and dive-bomb for the portal, then when it is above the portal is finishes the death sequence. Confirmed fixed finally! Thanks Dinnerbone!
I made another video showcasing the fixed version here: https://youtu.be/2CcZTfdY0js
It is not normal. The enderdragon not dying when you kill it is definitely a bug. 😉
Dang, I looked for 10 minutes before posting this... Stupid search engine.
I WAS WRONG I LIED I LIED. It's still there. Sorry!
Fixed in 1.8.2-pre6. Please update ticket.
Uploaded screenshot actually demonstrating the bug. Uploaded a third one to fix the gadgets positioning (I'm OCD and it was bothering me.)
Go to the profile in the launcher, click "Edit Profile", and if the box titled "Resolution" is checked, uncheck it. It's possible that your game is forcing a certain resolution and that it's not dynamically adjusting it to your screen.
Same here. Back again in 1.8.2-pre5. We should wait until pre6 comes out tomorrow, though, before doing anything.
Since my world is actually too large to upload, here is a dropbox link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/y7u7d7t4fu9kqrx/Exhelah%27s%20Realm%20%28New%20World%29.zip?dl=0
I have a case in which this happens. I am uploading a .zip of my Minecraft Realms world. Download and open the world, and use /tp -71.7 74 -143.8 -43.5 18.9 to teleport your player to the sight where the bug occurs. You will see something similar to the screenshot I am uploading.
Details: If your y-rotation goes below -44.9, the chunks render and the glitch ceases. If your x-rotation goes below -41, the y-rotation range shrinks at an angle until the bug cannot be reproduced. The bug is happening in an underground room containing chests, signs, and torches, as well as andesite, granite, and diorite for the walls.
I hope these specifics will help Mojang fix this annoying bug!
Oh, I didn't read Grumm's comment until after I posted that... Good job! 😃
This is a duplicate of MC-35856, someone please mark it as such. For the record, I did search for a full 10 minutes before posting this bug, but nothing showed up... The search engine needs some work.
