Splitscreen - crosshair flickers or disappears

Steps to Reproduce:

  1. Open up Minecraft on a split-screen-compatible device (Xbox, PlayStation, Switch, etc. No servers)

  2. With a second controller, add a second player to start split-screen

  3. Have either player open up their inventory or any other menu (Any UI)

Observed Results:

Any players that don't have any menus opened up will see that their crosshair is flickering. When all players in a menu exit the menu, all players' crosshairs will return to normal.

If 2 players are in a menu, the other players' crosshairs will disappear but if a 3rd person enters a menu, the player not in a menu will have a crosshair and it will be flashing more intensely.

Here is a video that demonstrates all variations of flashing and no crosshair:

Expected Results:

The crosshair should stay solid and not flicker nor disappear when players open up a menu.

Notes:

Players going into 3rd person also trigger the flashing and/or crosshair disappearing.

As of 1.21.80, the crosshair flickers regardless of whether a UI is open.

Same issue here. In local 4-player, sometimes the crosshair disappears completely. When this occurs, you can't do things that require crosshair activation, such as opening chests. Makes local multiplayer very difficult.

Also happens constantly while splitscreen player is in 3rd person (or second), and it seems that player 1 and 2 on the screen rapidly take turns with or without the crosshair. Seems like the crosshair doesn’t know which user to activate for.

Same here, although other players can still use their crosshair, so this may be a different bug.

Since the last update this has happened to me as well. Crosshairs flicker if one other player is on splitscreen or completely disappears if 3 or 4 players are on. Happens whenever someone opens a chest, their inventory, or a crafting block. Playing on Xbox one bedrock edition.

This happens to me on PS4, is this the case on other platforms too?

I hope Mojang looks into fixing this quickly because it is a bug that makes certain things like aiming with bows or trident impossible whilst someone else is just sorting out their inventory or chests...

I've had this constantly since 1.16.220 and I hope the next update fixes it...

Edit: I wanted to add that this does not only affect opening UI like inventory or all the ones mentioned above. It also happens to me when going to sleep in a bed

This is still a huge issue, and has somehow gotten worse over the last four years.

The crosshair flickers on and off constantly in split screen. It gives me a headache and makes the game unplayable for more than 15 minutes.

If you would just give us the ability to turn the crosshair ON or OFF in the options menu, we could at least play without a giant strobing + in the middle of our screen ruining everything.

The crosshair could flicker by not opening a inventory.

I have the same issue, except Xbox.

Also happens on Xbox Series X, 1.29.9:

  • Split screen

  • One player goes in inventory or third person

  • The other player’s crosshair disappears

  • Once they return to first person or leave inventory, crosshair returns

  • Crosshair works if a player is in inventory while the other one is doing an action which would otherwise disappear the crosshair

The same thing happens on PS4. Also, when you open a menu like the inventory or customize a skin, there's a huge drop in frame rate, making it very unplayable. This doesn't happen in Minecraft Legacy.
