Loaded into my world, died by a mob, pressed return to main menu instead of respawn. Loaded back into the world and now is stuck on Generating World, Building terrain. Won't move past this point.
Steps to Reproduce:
Create a new world
Teleport over 2000 blocks away from spawn
Switch to Survival mode and type /kill
Press the Return to Main Menu button
Reopen the world
Observed Results:
World is stuck on Generating World, Building Terrain.
Expected Results:
World should successfully load.
Potential Workaround (Windows):
Press F11 while on the loading screen. This should allow the world to load.

sometimes happens to me while going through dimensions

i really hope this gets fixed soon... 😞

I noticed it only seems to mess with the player that died and not other players that joined.

I got stuck going through a portal to my base and had to force close Minecraft.
I thought there was a bigger issue than this.
Extra info: I spawned at my nether coords in the overworld. This was probably due to force quiting in the middle of the loading screen, which could end up killing someone in their survival world
Edit: this is a separate issue, MCPE-158215. May be related in some sort

I accidentally found a workaround for this issue. It worked on my single player Bedrock game on my Android phone, but not sure about other systems.
Try to load the affected saved game. It will hang on the "loading terrain" screen.
Wait until phone screen times out and turns itself off.
Wake the phone, it should open Minecraft again, and resume trying to load the game.
This time the game successfully loaded!

Me pasó ¿alguna solución para PS4?

Happened to my sister too.

I really hope this issue gets fixed. I can't load into my first ever Minecraft Survival World now and I really wanted to make a new farm. 😞

I really hope this gets fixed soon, I really want to play my survival world.

I have this problem too, but I play the bedrock version in the PS4. I was playing yesterday, when I died in nether, so I respawned inside my house, and switched to the creative mode, and tried to run direct to the nether portal. When I was running, the screen has been freezed, and I've had to close the game. When I tried to enter back again, the world couldn't be loaded. It stucks on "Generating world" and "building terrain". I tried to wait more than 30 minutes, without sucess. I realy want to play in this specific world, because i worked on it for more than a year. I wish you could help me.

How can I fix it on ps5? I died in the nether and clicked main menu and the world is stuck there.

Experiencing the same thing on iOS version.

Another potential workaround for mobile (possibly only Android, but if anyone could try on IOS too to see the result):
1. Open the world
2. When the loading stuck, quit the game/open recent app tab (but do not remove Minecraft from recent app)
3. Open Minecraft again, and you should be in the world again

having the same problem, but on playstation 4, and I was in the end.

Having the same problem except it happens at any coords, I died at 100-200 and after that I couldnt enter my world anymore, stuck at generating world and the only workaround was opening a recent tab and coming back to minecraft, can someone tell me if this happens on realms? I want to buy one but I dont know if this happens there aswell.

Experiencing the same problem on PS4 Pro. A world I’ve been playing on and off again for 3 years.
Game crashed as I entered my nether portal back to the overworld. I exited the application and loaded back into my world. When I spawned back in my world I was instantly on the death screen saying I suffocated in a wall. I was pissed so I went to the main menu instead of respawning…. Now I can’t even get back into my world, experiencing the infamous “building terrain” glitch.
Please come up with a fix this makes me never want to play the game ever again. And why would I if I know the game will just break again.

Happened to me too, after dying in a nether fortress I clicked main menu and now i can't get back in. The loading bar gets stuck at the very end and the whole game seems to freeze. I've tried restarting my PS4 and I even redownloaded the game to no avail. I'm lucky to have a copy of the world but if this doesn't get fixed I'll still be losing a month of progress.

I'm also experiencing this issue. It started right after upgrading my PS4 version to 2.53. I had been in the nether (I've seen that as a common thread), but wasn't there when I logged out (Save & Quit).
When I try to log back in, I'm stuck at "Building Terrain".
I've attempted to restore an older backup file, but the last one I have is from two months ago... a tough loss for my world if that's where I need to restore from.
I'm able to get into other world on this Playstation.
Fix: This fixed it for me
Download and install Minecraft PE
Log into the same Microsoft account
Start the world on PS4 and let it get to the point where it's stuck building terrain
Find the shared game on your same network and log in as the Minecraft PE account.
Run around, save and exit.
Shut down PS4 minecraft completely (close)
Restart it, and your game will be back!

Platform: Switch
This has happened to me too, but it does not need to be after death. I could simply log out and then log in again, and there's a chance it may simply get stuck generating world indefinitely. The longest I've seen it go is like 20 minutes.

This is due to chunks not being unloaded correctly.
I use the windows version and checked for any ldb files that are preventing it from loading.
Then it gets stuck with only a specific chunk loaded,
The area around the respawn point did not load at all.
And when I remove the ldb data that was preventing this load
Since this stack has been cleared, unload at the end of the game
And it is true that the preservation is very imperfect.
If this is not improved, stacks and save drops will not be resolved.

Additional information about workarounds for this bug.
First of all, as a premise, the root of this bug is not originally loaded respawn point.
Because the death point memory is not unloaded
Notice that the memory is stuck without being able to load.
I did the following method on my Nintendo Switch.
1. Create a new world
2. Instantly tp to 10000 100 10000, die with /kill and return to the menu
3. Reopening the world is stuck loading and getting stuck
4. In that state, press and hold the power button to turn off the power
5. Open the applicable world again
6. Can now load and respawn correctly
In other words, by killing the device with the stack screen open the world can now be loaded.
In Windows you can reset the memory by F11 or window change,
You don't have to do it this way.
For mobile devices, use the built-in shutdown function.
On console game machines (Xbox, Switch, PlayStation),
Turn off the power in the usual way, or force a shutdown by pressing and holding the power button.
However, this method may involve data corruption, so
I think it's best to make a backup first.
The procedure is different for each device, so please follow the steps below.

On a PS4 Plattform using Bedrock Edition the proposed way (wait till it is stuck, then shut down PS4, restart PS4, open Minecraft and load world again) worked.
Thanks for the support

This happened to me when I died in the end on MCPE in the world that I had like 100 hours in. I made a backup first. Then I tried literally everything, it took me like 2 hours. And now I can't thank ArifMcpeXd842 enough for his comment, because that saved my world.
The fix on mobile (android):
Open the world
When the loading stuck, quit the game/open recent app tab (but do not remove Minecraft from recent app)
Open Minecraft again, and you should be in the world again.
If you have a copy of the world available, you might like to upload a copy of it for investigation.
On Windows 10 you can use the Export world feature.
On Android or iOS you need to use a file explorer to navigate to Device storage > games > com.mojang > minecraftWorlds
On Xbox or Switch the only way is to upload it to a Realm, and then download the world on Windows 10 or Android/iOS. (Please do not purchase a Realms subscription just to provide a world to us - but if you have a Realm already this may be a viable option if you wish to do so.)
Here are the steps to copy a world save on PlayStation:
Make sure your BLANK USB stick has been formatted to FAT32
On your PlayStation, go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device > Select Minecraft > Select Saved World to copy > Copy
This should then copy the world save to the USB, which you can share to a file sharing site such as OneDrive, and then share the link.
If the world is larger than 10MB you can upload the world to OneDrive or a similar file sharing site, and then share the link.

Playing on a PS5. Died – clicked menu and now cannot get back in my level – stuck on the “Building Terrain” every time I try and log it. Extremely frustrating due to the amount of time spent on this world. I created a copy of the world – did not work. I try to put the file onto Realms – did not work. Ironically, if I log into Realms (any random level first) and quite out and then immediately log into my world right afterwards, I can get back into my old level sometimes. It has never worked if I try and go to my world first after I open Minecraft. I am too nervous to put any more time into this level when you cannot log into in reliability/ at all. Spent years on this level. Please fix this issue!

I have the same problem here. Someone from support team told me to post link to my world here to help them fix the issue. Here it is: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1FEXiBUz9v2sX6tx5OwjPqe3C71mHv5Kh/view?usp=drivesdk

Since y'all are working on this bug I will only add a comment. I encountered this bug at 12:50 AM AST on the 19th of February 2023 where I died by a spider, hit the respawn button, and got generating world at the bottom of the screen. When it didn't immediately respawn me after I hit the respawn button I knew to immediately come here looking for the bug. I think this bug kills worlds so that they don't reload right.

Still an issue in 1.19.63

So following the advice given already of making a copy of the world & putting it onto realms, I'm now stuck with the same issue off "Building terrain" just on realms instead now.
Reply from @unknown:
Note that the "advice" is given as a way for you to provide a copy of your world to Mojang for analysis, for cases where you are using a device that does not allow direct copying of worlds. You would need to download your world from the realm and then attach it to this report (if < 10MB) or post to a file sharing site and add a link here.

I had an issue on xbox, I died and my game crashed when I respawned, now my world is stuck on building terrain screen, I’ve made multiple copies too.

playing on a playstation 4, when I died I pressed the button to return to the menu and I went back to the world and it stayed in generating world

Affects in 1.19.81

This is currently an issue for me, still, on both Xbox and PC in version 1.20.15
