Confirmed, I have the identical issue as depicted in the images. Very slow and patchy chunk loading on logging in, and then any map showing my login location shows as above.
Related to https://bugs.mojang.com/browse/MCPE-162424 (Higher rate of Unloaded chunks since 1.19.30).
For details of this happening in real time, see attached video:

Same thing is happening me on my realm.

Confirmed. This is happening on my world as well.

This also applies to locked maps, which all updated to show the current state of the world, unfortunately. (See the image I attached, maps.png, where the left side is normal maps and the right side is locked maps that updated).

The same thing is happening in my world. This glitch also occurs on locked maps. This is a very, very serious problem for players who create map art because after it is redrawn, it is replaced by the latest terrain.

Strangely, I thought it looked like a void structure was generated before the actual terrain. However, upon exploring around, some of the areas when logging in has a light level of 0, therefore, creating the shadow map glitch.

Got the same problem

I am having the same issue as shown in my pictures. It started 2 days ago. Am also having the shadow rendering issue as well. I am playing on Xbox series x though

It seems to be related to where the player comes out of a nether portal. You can "fix" the map by picking it up and running around to fill it in again. However, when you log out and log back in, the map reverts back to being all black.

Update:
Without touching the maps, I ran away to meet another member. We each took screenshots of my maps and they were not the same on each other's screen. Also, the map changed for me from when I had previously looked at it as you can see in the second picture.
We left and I came right back a minute later and my maps changed again.

Happened on my realms as well

On the server I host for my family and friends, it has completely decimated our maps. From maps that have been in the world for 8 years, to maps that were made this week. I can easily fix the maps that aren't locked but they just revert back to their broken black circles when we leave the area or the server restarts. I hope that this bug gets patched pretty soon. Hopefully sooner than later, I don't want our world to get built up any further that it already is and have to install our 1.19.22.01 backup save that I have. That'll just put us back to before I updated the server with a lot of progress lost the longer this takes. I wish I knew about this bug before I updated and told every one that it was updated, because I'm the only one with the ability to revert my game back to 1.19.22.01 with a version switcher.

So would it be best to wait to keep playing on this world in realms until after they have resolved this bug? And can I switch back to a previous version before this update on Xbox?

This issue seems to stem from loading chunks in around a player. I had a map of my house and the area around where I spawned in has the black circle all around it, and any chunks within that radius of a player from that gets updated to locked maps as well.

I have the same issue on my realm.

It happens on locked maps too, ruined my maps from legacy console. So now I await a hot fix

I have the same issue in realms.
[media]
Same happened in my realm. However, only affected my zoom level 3 maps (seen on wall), not my zoom level 4 maps (in hand). Affected areas circled in red. (Maps show same area.) Usually the Zoom level 3 maps are not equipped, we carry around the Zoom level 4 maps.
[media]
Also happened to my level 0 maps of the starting location. However, the Level 3/Level 4 maps did not glitch around this location. (near the top right of the more zoomed out maps.)

Same issue; occurring at spawn on Level 1/4 maps running bedrock on Xbox One within Online Realm version 1.19.30 with "Clarity" Resource pack active..
Exploring resolves the black circles but they return when you log back in.
Also guest or split screen players on Xbox One doesn't have the same lighting as the main or primary user. Torches show light at the torch but doesn't spread out in the normal 9 or 10 block range.

I just have a same problem in the realm server
1.19.22 no problem
1.19.30 have problem now
luckily I have local backup
my old map create in 1.14
this bug just destroy my old map

I tried locking my map to solve the issue but it still unloaded and now it's stuck like this. Somehow it also shows sand and gravel where there is none.

Seems to only affect realms. downloading backups from before the game updated to 1.19.30 seems to fix the issue but the worlds break as soon as they are uploaded to the realm. updating the map also fixes the issue, but not with locked maps. I'm assuming that it's to do with the way map data is stored as it seems to affect locked maps built in the same place (common with map art, 1000s of hours work gone)
the maps affected dont seem to always match between different players
I had a map show a slice of the world rather than the top most block so it could be rendering the wrong layers and perhaps void?

Massive problem here, as I use a single area on our realm to make map arts. The entire thing got corrupted, and all the locked maps started rendering incorrectly. Massive areas were displaying what I guess are void chunks ?, or, weirdly, the most recent map art I'd made for another player instead of the correct maps.

Same problem on our Realm, our base map on the wall gets corrupted with a big black circle everytime I log in or when somebody comes from a Nether portal. It started happening this week.

Having this issue on our server, it's not on Realms. Seems to get worse over time, with the most recent having a map load in almost 50% black. Occurs for players using texture packs as well as those not

All progress/play on my Realm has halted in fear this bug will be irreversible, and I see similar comments in this thread. Can a developer confirm or deny if this is a client side rendering issue or something more severe? I would like to resume play but am afraid to incase our locked maps are irreversibly damaged.

It's on my Realm too. This is a plague that needs to be eradicated. Hopefully there can be a resolution that will just revert the maps to their old state. 😞

discovered this last week and started calling it “the nothing” from never ending story. the only work around is to exit game outside of mapped areas to preserve map corruption when rejoining.
*item frames are bypassing locked maps

This is definitely happening on bds too. It like if a map in a frame is loaded, its as if the server has the map on hand, to update it. But the change with render only chunks being handled by client, the server doesnt know whats in the chunks beyond the simulation distance.

This still affects 1.19.31 on my iPad Pro. reopen please.

1.19.31 fixed unlocked maps when opened by the player. Locked maps are still showing black spaces, and now do not display the historical locked data, but instead display current map data. These locked maps should display the data from the point it was locked.

It is still occurring in 1.19.31. It hasn't been fixed.

Yes, 1.19.31 has not fixed the issue.
Reopening - the 1.19.31 hotfix fixed the issue for new maps and prevents further corruption of maps with black pixels appearing, but we are still working on a solution for already explored / existing maps.

Maps are now updating when locked instead of staying locked.

This has overwritten some locked map art. Someone flew over our map-art area, and it's reset the areas on the locked maps to what is currently visible on the ground.

1.19.40.2, Locked Maps still not recovered

I don't know if it's possible to recover that. It might be, but I don't think so...
That's like having two pictures of the same place, one that you just took ten seconds ago, and one from 100 years ago. If you throw them both away, you can re-take the newer picture, but it's too late to take that older picture again. So unless there's a copy of that picture somewhere that wasn't thrown away, it is gone forever.
If this is just a rendering issue, where the game remembers the old locked map but cannot display it, then you may get your locked maps fixed. But if the game doesn't remember at all what color those pixels should be, then your locked maps... are lost... as far as I know...
