Well done Mojang!!! The game crashed while he was putting some loot into his Shulker box, when the game restarted, it recovered in the same place but the Shulker disappeared along with its content! His only Elytra was stored there and now is lost. He is devastated! Is there anything that can be done to fix this in the meantime?

Gosh I thought I was going nuts... ok I’m not the only one with this issue. I think each time I’ve lost a shulker or enderchest, it was positioned right on a chunk border. Mojang, y’all gotta make those chunk borders a little less volatile.

I had this happen to me today in the Nether, although my game didn't crash - I opened my shulker box, got some items out, crafted some torches and then when I closed the crafting interface the box was gone. I mined all around the area thinking I may have accidentally broken it but no sign of it at all. Logged out and back in with no change. Really gutted as I'd just looted a bastion remnant and found a Soul Speed III enchant book which was in the box...

The issue described here is no different than the issue with entities "despawning" across chunk borders due to a crash, MCPE-21416. In fact, in the test world and video I provided for MCPE-21416, there is a honey block that gets deleted along with the villager being deleted (not visible in the video b/c it's under a wall). What is happening here is
You place down the shulker box.
The game autosaves the player data, sans shulker box that has been placed in the world.
The game crashes before it autosaves the chunk data where the shulker box was placed.
Suggestion for the devs: something that might help a lot with this issue would be to have the game autosave a chunk's data immediately whenever a player closes a shulker-box/chest/ender-chest GUI. Or, perhaps more optimized would be to track the chunk location of a player's last used storage block with the player data, and make sure that chunk's save state has been updated when the next player-data autosave occurs.

I had this problem today, but the circumstances are different, I placed the sulker while a cloud was passing through, I picked up an item inside the sulker, then I go to continue my build, clouds go away so as my sulker.
Edited:
Ps.: I'm playing on a realm server

I was put in this bug, but I haven't slightly different circumstances. I have had now two instances where shulker boxes have gone missing from my Ender Chest. The first time, I placed a shulker box in my ender chest, the game crashed and when I returned to the world it was gone. This time I was putting items in two shulker boxes, I finished, put the boxes back in my ender chest and saved and closed. When I reopened the game, the shulker boxes were no longer in my ender chest. I wouldn't think chunk borders would be affected, because both times the shulker box was in my inventory and placed inside an ender chest. If I had to make a comparison to the two instances is, I had exited within a few seconds of placing the shulker boxes in my ender chest. One time the game crashed, the other time I saved an exited. Is it safe to leave items in an ender chest? First time I lost all my netherite and ancient debris, this time I lost all my conduits and beacons. It's making the game less fun when I have to gather all those resources again. I'm using Bedrock on PC.

Affects 1.18.0.22

it glitched out of my inventory. I'm playing LAN with my bf and I'm connecting to him. I had a shulker in my inventory, building my OP set 😞 i click a little fast in my inventory and my shulker glitched gone. I'm very sad.

I alt-tabbed from Bedrock right after placing two Shulker boxes and 4 hoppers.
When I alt-tabbed back, instead of loading the world I was in, the game returned to the title screen. When I loaded the world, the hoppers were not placed and only one Shulker was placed.
I had duplicated hoppers (the ones inside the Shulker that were still there and the ones in my inventory) and one Shulker missing.

This is a major issue still. I play on Bedrock on a server and I've lost 5 shulker boxes in the last week. One minute they're in my inventory, the next they're not. I suspect it happens because I log out and log in a lot, but it's infuriating losing the boxes and all the stuff in side...over and over again. Doesn't look like anyone even working on this bug either as it's been an issue for 3 years...

1.19.71 OLED Switch, Game Card
Got disconnected with a shulker box open. Logged back on & it's gone. Good thing it's just Netherrack & Nether Quartz Ore.
Rather lose literal hours/days of progress to the void than a bug. At least one of those is my fault.

Just had this issue happen to me.
I'd just taken stuff out of the Shulker Box I use for all my maxed out tools and other equipment useful for an expedition away from home. I took some tools out in order to repair them whilst trading with villagers. Flew off, game crashed. When I logged back on, the Ender Chest "remembered" I'd taken the Shulker Box out, but the world hadn't yet saved to the state after I'd placed it, so the Shulker Box was lost to the ether. As I'm on PS5 my world was backed up to an older state, but because I had to do so in order to avoid losing my valuable equipment I lost hours of progress.
This is in fact the second time it has happened now.

Just happened today 1.21.41
I was playing multiplayer, and one of the players got kicked out of the game, in the overworld, due to a connection issues. When she got back, she'd lost her Shulker box, that was placed on the ground next to our build site.
I was still in the nether when it happened. When I arrived, we tried looking for the box with no success. We even dug the ground around where the box was sitting, just in case it went through the block under it.

I've had random duplication and loss very similar, puts a shulker down I get an item out I fly away and do something, sometimes not even a few chunks away... I come back and there is no shulker or the items I removed and used are still in the shulker, this occurs a lot around villagers and mob farms
I had the same issue happen to me. I lost a Shulker box full of loot while in The End. I was placing it in my Ender Chest when the game crashed. When I re-opened the game, the Shulker box and Ender Chest were both gone. Strangely enough, Ender Chests were spawned into two different End Cities in the same general location of the one where I lost it. But the Shulker Box, with a lot of great items, was not present.
