Auto save breaking, losing progress in world

I've had the same thing happen.

same thing going on in my world too

Affects 1.19.0.34 and 1.19.0.35 on Android and Windows respectively. Seems to be world-specific as this doesn't always happen. Copies of the world before and after this issue occurs may be needed in order to figure out what's going on. (EDIT: further testing needed, can't reproduce in newly created worlds)

I own a PS5 and play Minecraft on it exclusively.

While I have not experienced this issue in single player mode, I usually only play 1 hour or less at a time.  When I play multiplayer, which right now is only with one Xbox user, I will play 2 hours or longer.  Each time this happens, whether or not the other play quits first, the following happens.

1. I set a respawn point at the bed in my house.  I do NOT see the "Saving" Icon in the top right when I do this.

2. I Save & Quit

3. I get stuck at the "Saving to your PS4" screen.  I waited about 10 minutes the first time and only about 3 the second time because I found out about this bug.

4. I quit Minecraft while it is still "saving."

5. I go back in and at the Load Screen the SCREENSHOT is of exactly where I was when I saved.

6. I load the game and instead of being in my house with the hours of progress saved, instead I spawn at the actual spawn point of my Multiplayer companion at the bottom of my map with no progress saved.  It picks up at the last place I saved before the Multiplayer session.

Got the same problem in my world. Actually 1-2 times a day. Copied the world and save often. The problem with saving is not always, sometimes it works and sometimes not. But I can say that the memory problem occurs very often when I play on the PS4 with my daughter. Saving only worked once. I noticed that if the save didn't work, the chunks weren't loaded beforehand or only some chunks....

I have the same issue on ps5. 4hr+ session with three players in local coop. Each one quit game individually just fine except the host. Save and quit leads to "Your game is being saved. Please do not turn off your "PlayStation 4" system." and the download chest icon is not frozen but stays on this screen infinitely.

How is there not a workaround in place yet and no update on this??

I have the same problem. And doesn’t work realms with same problem 

It's been happening non-stop after this update. I'll host a multiplayer game on PS4 and unless I save and quit every half hour all of out 4+hour progress just gets reset. Two friends just flat out wont come back.

Iknow how to fix it! The reason of it happening isn’t Minecraft’s, but Software PlayStation’s fault. You need to restart PlayStation (like in the screenshot) to fix it. Sorry for Russian, I’m not a native) But the order of buttons is the same in English

It doesn’t fix it. I’ve restarted console, deleted and redownloaded the game twice and it still doesn’t work. It’s also occurring with any new world I make now.

Restarting my PlayStation does not fix the issue. My PlayStation and Minecraft are up-to-date. This issue started after the most recent update. Cannot save any newly created worlds or pre-existing worlds. It is frozen on the saving icon and the only thing you can do is force close again. All progress is lost. 

I submitted the bug as requested above and was told to make sure the game saves were backed up and to uninstall and reinstall Minecraft. It solved the issue. I was hoping that today’s Minecraft update would solve the issue but it didn’t. But uninstalling and reinstalling fixed to the issue and I did not lose any of the saved worlds. I tested this by making a new world, building a small home and setting a respawn point at a bed. I then saved and quit. The game properly saved without getting hung up. I was able to re-enter the world and everything worked as it should.

Its the autosave i tryed saveing when the autosave chest is not there and it saved

After saving and quitting my world (on ps5, playing the ps4 version of the game) get's stuck on the saving screen and it would be like that till I quit the game, after quitting the game and loading back into the world I have lost my progress (to a certain point).

Hey, I have the same problem, my game gets stucked in the following screen, therefore, I need to close my game and lose my progress.

I have also been experienced this bug since 1.18.0 on Windows 10

Experiencing this bug during gameplay as well - I build a wall around a village, and then move to another area. When I come back, half the wall is gone as though I hadn't finished it. I built a minecart tunnel and used it twice, only to be stopped by a solid wall the third time as though I never finished the tunnel. Chunks also take a very long time to load in when traveling between different areas, as if the game is trying to remember what I had already done there before deciding to revert to an earlier version of the terrain. This in combination with the inability to save by selecting save and quit has made the game unplayable on PS4 as no progress can be made.

Me and my partner have been losing tons of progress to a similar autosave bug. Three times in fact!

The signs of it happening is when the autosave icon hangs in corner of the screen longer than it should, it's normally couple of seconds for us, and when we return to the game it's the previous autosave.
Another glitch that might be related this one is when this is happening whilist loading chunks of the world they will become invisable but you are still able to walk on them.

There is what we know-

• We are playing on verison 1.19.50

• We are playing with crossplay. (Switch and PlayStation 5)

• Two out of the three time this error happened, one of us was using a map

• With all three times we were traveling to a new area

• We think that it is the result of the game having to load new chunks whilst autosaving, but that hard to say for certain.

I just got a PS5 console from the PlayStation Store. I get a CE-108255-1 Error when the PS5 opens, saves, or copies a Minecraft Bedrock v1.19.51 Survival, Creative, or Spectator World. Contacted PlayStation Tech Support via phone call. Support had me go through all recommended fixes including uninstalling and reinstalling Minecraft Bedrock PS4 Edition. Still have crashes. PlayStation Support said the error is a Microsoft Mojang issue, and I should contact Mojang to resolve the issue.   No resolution just finger pointing.    

Wit's End would absolutely describe how I'm feeling right now about this bug.

It has reached the point where my daughter will literally no longer play multiplayer with me because she'll spend an hour (or in today's instance JUST FIFTEEN MINUTES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) building an amazing looking house or digging for diamonds or going through an ancient city and then the Save Icon will appear and will not go away and we both know it's over.

Today's was the final straw.  I am on a PS5.  Latest version of Bedrock.  My son is on an Xbox Series S, latest edition of Bedrock.  My daughter is on a Nintendo Switch, latest edition of Bedrock.

When my son started playing with me in my PS5 world, it seemed fine.  When my daughter joined on the Switch just a few minutes later, everything seemed fine.

But then my son flew an Elytra into a new section of map and it would not render at all.  It was all empty space and my Save Icon appeared and would not go away.

This was only about 30 minutes total of playing together and we lost it all.  Then we tried again and as soon as the Switch entered the fray, it did it again.  

I literally don't understand how a bug that affects something this big isn't fixed yet.  

We’ve been getting this error for the last week. Any new world gets stuck on the saving world do not power off your PlayStation screen and we lose all progress. Hours worth of work. Minecraft is unplayable. Fix needed urgently. 
These worlds have been 2 player local only (both playing on same PS4 with split screen) - not realms.

I don’t think it is network related as our internet is fine and it is a local game. Not through realms. 

It seems to be multiplayer games that are affected after the first time it autosaves. Autosave icon does not go away and from that point you cannot save. If you exit the game before the first autosave it saves any progress.

 Single player games don’t appear to be affected. The autosave icon flashes as per normal and goes away and you are able to save progress. 

went to turn off autosave but apparently that function is no longer available. 

On PS5 migrated from PS4.  I have been playing this survival world (500MB) with my son for six months and while playing, my son suddenly saw through the world (x-ray) and the surrounding blocks would not appear when walking.  We both exited the game but the save never finished, even letting it alone for 30 minutes.   After reloading that world, we lost all our 3 hours session.  Retrying the world and playing a few minutes, the world won't save anymore...

So, this game does not work for us anymore.

Previously we had stopped playing another survival world (1.3GB) after it could no longer load with "This world cannot be loaded".  It still won't load after many Minecraft update.

My games don't autosave, and when I try to save and quit, it gets stuck in the saving screen and never saves. It happens when I play with someone else. I made a new world, and played alone. At 90mbs, it started freezing up on the save screen. No progress saved after. I made a new world, it saved fine, until another player joined. Now it freezes up in save screen. World is at 60mbs and I can't make any more progress.

I've had this problem for almost a year and decided to play different games, hoping this bug would be fixed. Today, I tried again, but bug is still there. No progress. This issue has not been resolved. 

I am having the same issue and I can consistently get the game to not save by having my daughter join the game on her switch.  What's really odd about this is that last weekend we were able to play for hours one evening but after that save worked we were not able to play again at all.  We did try one more game together and it didn't end up saving either so we gave up playing until this bug is resolved.  I am playing on a PS5 and my daughter is on a OLED Switch.

I decided to do some additional troubleshooting with a new game this evening and I have found that (just a few minutes of testing, not hours):

• If I play solo I can save just fine

• If I have another PS5 join the local mulitplayer game I can save just fine

• If I have the Switch join I cannot save

UPDATE

After playing for about an hour on a LAN game with two PS5's the bug happened again.  Minecraft is completely unplayable at this point.

We are experiencing this issue too.

• PS4 with up to date systems and application.

• Deleted all surplus games

• Occurring on both single player and multiple games

• All worlds have recently been created (last 4 weeks)

• Occurs regardless of whether user has a MS account and is logged in

• Occurs on games of any length, some have been quit after less than a minute whilst others have been hours in length

• Time of day does not appear to have an impact

Same issue here, it's absolutely impossible to save any Minecraft world. Saving screen hangs for hours and gets stuck. 

I guess I'm luckier than I thought cause I only have to wait around 30 minutes every autosave since the newest update

I am experiencing this issue on PS4, at least since 1.19.60 and still happens on 1.19.62. It freezes right after “saving world” when it says “done!” and the only way to fix it is to force close the game and re-open it. This also happens when I leave a server such as Mineplex.

Same problems keep having the same error over and over again on PS5. My daughter plays for hours sometimes and can't save her worlds then loses the entire world because it's corrupted. Some of these worlds she's been playing for years and she loses them completely. Already deleted and reinstalled the game and whatnot and try everything else. Are you guys ever going to fix this or should we just delete this game indefinitely?

Also have this issue on the PS5. How is this not fixed yet?

It's amazing to me that a bug this bad is allowed to persist this long without acknowledgement or a timeline for fix. Imagine any other online game that nukes any effort or progress you make within it going on for weeks on end with no resolution. It has killed multiplayer for my family. 

I know there are a lot of bugs in this game but this one is literally killing all social play for some. Its not a block or enemy behavior that we are complaining about here. 

How can we up vote this issue to get it rectified?

I Just tried it on my PS5.

My 473MB game loads but won't save (stuck at saving forever) if I do anything in it.  Even in single player.

I tried a new game with my son and played for a few hours.

Saving the 30MB game manually does not work either (stuck forever saving) even if my son exits the game and I am alone in the game when saving.

We are no longer playing since early 2022...

Im am having the same issue as all of you, after playing for many houres in multiplayer on ps4, i get stuck in saving screen and cant save! Very frustrating to do the same things over and over.

I am also experiencing this bug on ps4. I have been dealing with this bug for months now and just found this forum to post my trouble.

I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game and that didn't fix it.

I have a 62 MB game save and the autosave icon can be present forever or not at all and it will still get stuck when I save and exit.

I found that if I exit and saved frequently within just a few minutes, that with each consecutive save the time increased from a quick save of about a couple seconds to taking about 15 seconds. I closed the game and restarted and repeated this and it got it stuck within a couple saves.

My kids and I can't play together with this bug. It's literally stopped our playing Minecraft. 

This is extremely disheartening to see an issue go on without a solution for so long. My kids and I can't play the game due to it being stuck on save and then deleting all previous progress. Mojang if you care about people playing then do something to fix their issues. Haven't touched the game recently and doesn't look like I will any time soon.

I have been having the same problem for about a year now. I stopped playing my worlds, waiting for an update that will fix the problem. I went into a world that gets stuck on the save screen, to see if it's been fixed. I filled in my map, collected materials, and was able to save progress yesterday. But today, after building a pen to catch sheep, the save icon appeared at the corner of the screen and didn't disappear. When I saved and quit, it got stuck on the save screen again. I closed out the game, went back in and built a pen, and yep, it did it again. The save bug seems to be connected to building. We should have the option to turn off autosave and save it manually.

So I just realized today that when I created a ticket that got merged with this one that my comment was not automatically included. I reported this issue on 11 Feb 23 (copied in below). Like everyone else, I find it absolutely unacceptable that a fix has not been found. We never had any problems with Minecraft beyond a ridiculous load time when opening the game (20 minutes on average) until this save problem started. Last weekend my daughter played this same world by herself and it saved correctly. Several attempts prior were unsuccessful. Other worlds I have attempted to play have a 50/50 chance of saving correctly so we just haven't been playing. Everything on my PS4 is up-to-date. It seems to have started on version 1.18.??for us. 

MCPE-167008 In a new world created about 2 weeks ago, we played multiplayer last weekend for several hours (1st time in this world) and when closing the game it hung on the Saving World screen. There’s no way out of this screen other than to close the application. When reopening the game it showed the correct date and there was also a save file with a screen grab of progress made. However, upon opening the world, it had reverted to the previous save point. This has now happened three times. When playing solo, the world appears to save correctly. Last weekend was on PS update version 2.55 and yesterday we saw the 2.56 update loaded Thursday. Then today have the on screen Minecraft 1.19 update announcement. We have tried waiting over 30 minutes each time before closing the game.

@Mojang what do you need from us to help?  I realize this usually only happens when Multiplayer is engaged.  It may not seem important to you.  But when one son is on an Xbox, another is on the Switch, and I am on PS5 with the world we all want to enjoy, playing for 3 hours only to have it all not save is heartbreaking.

Is it because the bug is on Sony's platform?  I understand your boss and Sony aren't playing along nicely, but is that a reason to not work on allowing us back to the multiplayer table?

I'm willing to do what is necessary.  I can play two platforms on my own to replicate this issue.  I know all I have to do is load into the PS5 and join with Switch and after 5 minutes it'll be enough to cause my PS5 world to not save.

Or maybe you want us all to spend money on Realms so we don't have this problem?

Pretty sneaky if that's the case.  Then I could understand the silence.

I am having this issue on PS4 too, after the 1.19.71/2 update and now its got to the point were I cannot open my worlds on PS4 which makes the game unplayable. I am very annoyed I can't play the game.

I made a bug report early today that I cannot open worlds or play server because the game keeps locking up (get stuck).

I hope they fix these issues soon because my game is unplayable!

Maybe try escalating this issue through other platforms? I just tweeted them. Maybe if we all test or retweet? This comment will probably get removed but this issue is literally killing the game for PlayStation players something has to be done. 

Welp! I've got the runaround officially. I created a ticket with Mojang Support and was given the basic troubleshooting tips (reinstall, unplug device, etc) which I did for kicks and giggles. Didn't fix it. And I told them so. They told me to come back here and post a bug report. Back to square one. Just going to have to be patient at this point for myself and hope the squeaky wheel gets some grease. I would encourage everyone here to start squeaking at Mojang support and just know it's not going to get you fixed at this moment.

If you have a copy of the world available, you might like to upload a copy of it for investigation.

• On Windows 10 you can use the Export world feature.

• On Android or iOS you need to use a file explorer to navigate to Device storage > games > com.mojang > minecraftWorlds

• On Xbox or Switch the only way is to upload it to a Realm, and then download the world on Windows 10 or Android/iOS. (Please do not purchase a Realms subscription just to provide a world to us - but if you have a Realm already this may be a viable option if you wish to do so.)

Here are the steps to copy a world save on PlayStation:

1. Make sure your BLANK USB stick has been formatted to FAT32

2. On your PlayStation, go to Settings > Application Saved Data Management > Saved Data in System Storage > Copy to USB Storage Device > Select Minecraft > Select Saved World to copy > Copy

3. This should then copy the world save to the USB, which you can share to a file sharing site such as OneDrive, and then share the link.

If the world is larger than 10MB you can upload the world to OneDrive or a similar file sharing site, and then share the link.

I could create a save file if you want but it happens even on brand new worlds. If I create a new world and a second player joins via splitscreen, it no longer saves. This is on the PS5. I have not tested on the PS4.

I started to have issues on Realms as well so I uninstalled and re-installed Minecraft on my PS5.  After that I was able to save local games as well.

Problem has been fixed with the latest update.

Is anyone else still experiencing this issue?

Figured this was resolved, me and my gf started playing after not playing for about a year and a half due to this issue. We tried playing again after a couple new updates and felt like it was gone, the world was able to finish saving and we continued working hard together on our world and just today, after a 7 hour run, stuck saving for 15 minutes, stayed because we were hopeful but no, the issue is still here, NOT RESOLVED. 7 hours of work down the drain. We won't be playing again until I have concrete evidence that this issue is gone for good.

I have been thru something LIKE this, not the same. Sometimes when i save and quit, it looks like it works normally, but when i rejoin all my progress is gone (including the progress i made yesterday, the day before and so on). I play on an iPad. Would really love a solution.

I'm on Xbox Series X, am having the same issue. And when I do save and quit, it takes up to 2 minutes (I timed it) to save and sync to the cloud. I've also been having issues saying it can't sync to the cloud due to quota.
