All chests, double chests and ender chests are invisible

As a possible temporary workaround:
You might want to suspend the game for a couple of seconds, for chests to become visible again.

Windows 10: Minimize the game. Wait a couple of seconds (~10) and reopen the game.
Xbox One example: Go to home and open my games and apps (fullscreen), return to the active game session.

Please do mention this workaround, if you report any other issues that might be related. (and used this method)

I am glad I checked here first. I thought they were all gone. They are invisible in beta version 1.1.4.0.1 also. How long does it take to fix a bug? I see this in earlier versions a/p this thread. First, time in beta, looking to see what i can expect.

I still have this in 1.14 beta as well. as before minimising the game for 10 seconds brings them back

The last time I had the chests reappear was after I went on a long hike. when i returned they were back. Minimizing for 10 seconds is far easier.

I saw another ticket get closed referring to this one however that ticket specifically said the chests were invisible and the contents were not accessible! That's the issue we have on our realm. Even if the chest is broken the material that was inside is not there only the chest pops up.

All my chests are invisible. I cannot open them or view any of their contents. When I try to break them to get the contents, nothing comes out, even when I know one was full of loot. Same with furnaces. All my coal is gone. And my bed is invisible. When I try to break that, the game immediately crashes. Can someone please help me here?

This happened to me too. I also can't open my furnace, and had to place a new one to smelt my iron I'm running 1.14.1, playing Bedrock. This is a single player world (Not on a server) If anyone has some fixes. It would be great as all my Diamonds are in those chests. Thanks!

When I tried to brake shulker box the whole game crashed and closed the app. My affected are is around 1 chunk x and z but goes all the way from layer 12 to 60 at least. Lot Ms of good items lost?

This same issue just occurred in one chunk of my dedicated bedrock server. Made a small auto-smelter, it was there for awhile. However when I went back to it to get some glass the chests and the shulker box unloading the sand were invisible. The furnaces and the hoppers were not interactive and breaking them did not drop any items. If you placed a new chest that one would appear, but would not update the invisible chests. Restarting the server didn't fix the issue, and yes I can confirm breaking the invisible shulker box crashes the game.

Just upvoted because I've seen this behaviour myself. I created a new ticket MCPE-64299 because the original ticket described quite different behaviour, but if all invisible chest issues are being rolled into this ticket and you're now looking for the behaviour I'm experiencing, then great 🙂

I've the same issue.  Chests that I've placed on a shared Bedrock server are invisible (only outline shown) and inaccessible. Furnaces I've placed are visible but cannot be used.
Chests and furnaces placed by other users are functioning correctly.

Restarting the server had no effect.
Toggling various Video settings had no effect.

I really hope that all of my supplies are not gone.

This issue just accrued on my server, tried multiple restarts to no avail, breaking the chest drops the chest itself and no items, attempting to move the chest with a piston crashes the world.  if i attempt to run a replace item on one of the affected chest it returns the error "Block at Pos(X Y Z) is not a container".

We had this issue occur on our server. The chests and shulkers effected were completely invisible and inaccessible. Breaking the chests drops no resources, breaking shulkers crashes the server. You need to break the shulker with a piston to remove it. You dont get it back. Hours of resources vanish with this bug that can occur without much reason. Please fix this.

As mentioned above my the chest and hoppers went invisible. I had to break them and lost all my stuff. After replacing it worked fine till the new update 1.14.60.5. With a  normal reboot in the same chunk as before the same chests are gone and the same hoppers are not working again.

I have the same problem on my selfhosted Bedrock Server with invisible chests and broken hoppers.

It started a few weeks ago, the recent update 1.14.60 didn't fix anything for me too. Needless to say, that the warehouse is affected, around 110 chests can't be opened in and around the warehouse and the affected hoppers are without function. So above all that, warehouse is not working at all, cause of broken hoppers, the farms, which transport their stuff through hoppers to the warehouse, aren't working as well, cause those hoppers are broken as well and the chests in the farms are invisible too. Somewhere deep down in our world there's a lot of stuff inside hoppers and chests. I'm able to see the hoppers, just can't look inside, only the chests are invisible.

This is actually a disaster, all the hard work, creating the warehouse, hoppers, the farming, etc. Everyday it hurts my heart when I look inside the warehouse and don't see all those chests. And I won't break any of the chests or hoppers.

I really hope you can fix this issue..

I'm in the same boat as Kimon B. Selfhosted Bedrock Server 1.14.60 with invisible chests. I started playing a brand new world a month ago on 1.14.60 client and server version. It seemed to have broken all the chests in a certain area. Chests, hoppers and furnaces that are 15 blocks away didn't get messed up, but all the chests in a small area did. All that is left are wire-frame boxes where the chests should be. I tested breaking one and it just gave me a chest and none of the contents.

This bug has now happened to my server mates and I no less than 12 times. We have lost so much and the more it happens, the less we feel like it is worth continuing to play this game when all of our time in it is wasted when we lose resources to something we cannot plan or account for.

This has happened in at least 5 locations in one world in the last month. It has been much much worse in 14.6

Note, this particular issue has caused many of our community members to leave bedrock and go to java. It is discouraging. 

Interesting thing occurred today. For months we have not had issues in the nether, but recently we asked a few people to log out in the nether to see if it fixed an unrelated issue. Since then the signs around the area that we have had them log out have disappeared. This appears to be log out related in my opinion.

FYI we are loosing players on the bedrock edition for java edition daily due to this bug. Losing you main storage and all of you items weekly kinda turns you off of minecraft. It is incredibly serious. honestly this is worse than block lag. it is as bad as the world corruption bug we had. you lose all of the items to build your bases, all of your tools, all of your shulker boxes. they are just gone.

The world coruption bug was at least obvious. you now need to check your storage system every log in or risk losing all the items.

Also noticed this with a couple more chests, fortunately they didn't contain anything critical so I'll live with this, but it's incredibly frustrating. About the only thing I've been doing on this Minecraft server lately has been helping my son mine stone and wood, hundreds of stacks of them - if we lose a chest full of 54 stacks of stone or wood that is days of work gone in an instant, which would be crushing.

My suggestion is for others to do what we've been doing as much as possible - if you store as much as possible in Shulker chests, then store the Shunker chests in Ender chests, this bug can't affect you because you can always get to the contents of an Ender chest using other Ender chests (assuming this bug can even affect Ender chests - I've only seen it affect normal chests). Obviously also try to ensure a clean log off - if you get disconnected accidentally for some reason, log back in, then log out properly just to be on the safe side. If this bug relates to inelegant server shutdown after inelegant player disconnection and you're careful about how you log out and reboot the server, this may provide some measure of relief (although I'm purely speculating here - I don't know enough about the issue to draw any solid conclusions, and clearly Mojang aren't providing any feedback).

So we had it happen again yesterday, we lost something like 20 barrels of wool, but this time it seems that the person noticed it on log in. as they were actively checking the wool. 

the situation was as follows.

• 2 people were online about 12 chunks apart

• one person was running around like a mad man doing things such as organizing chests, posting signs, just kinda loading bouncing around.

• The other person was AFK at a wool farm

• the person at the wool farm logged out

• the person at the wool farm logged back in

• All of the chests were broken

  • The chests were located in the same area that the user logged out.

This is not a reliable repro case, but the fact it happened that way may be a clue. from the 50+ times that we have had this happen on 2 different servers, all locations where it happens are near places that a person frequently logs out/in, near a nether portal. 

A 3rd test server has been set up running the same software and hardware at the same hosting company, TPing around with 1 player until the world runs out of ram does not cause this issue, Logging in and out with only 1 player online does not seem to cause this issue.

The next line of testing i will be performing is to log in and log out while a different account TPs around an area. filled with tile entities. I really hope to get a reliable repro case as this has caused no less than 15 players to abandon bedrock in favor of a different java server.

MadHatter, one of the times this happened to me the game crashed on a PC while a chest was open (being interacted with). As I said, it crashed on the PC, but that's only the client, which I wouldn't have thought would have affected the copy on the server. It's running on an Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS virtual machine, so the server wasn't affected, but when I logged back in the chest (and the adjacent one) had disappeared.

That doesn't explain all of the invisible chests we've seen, but it might be relevant to expose the issue. It makes me wonder if the problem is caused by Minecraft opening a data field for editing when a chest is opened which isn't written to and closed unless the player correctly closes the chest. Leaving that handle open causes the chest data to be inaccessible to the game, so it can't be rendered. Purely speculation on my part - in many ways, that doesn't make much sense, as data fields don't need to relate to their chest 'containers' at all, it's just a number in a table somewhere. But maybe the cell data (chest contents) can't be accessed because the chest id gets lost somehow? Surely it wouldn't be hard to have an error checking code that looks for data corruption like that and replaces it with a backed up copy? It's scary as heck to think that a double-chest full of items (3,456, often painstakingly collected) can suddenly be lost in an instant, probably because something simple like an ID field got corrupted. And in my experience, this seems to happen in pairs, too - it always seems to be two adjacent chests, which of course could be nearly 7,000 items lost.

MadHatter, one of the times this happened to me the game crashed on a PC while a chest was open (being interacted with). As I said, it crashed on the PC, but that's only the client, which I wouldn't have thought would have affected the copy on the server. It's running on an Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS virtual machine, so the server wasn't affected, but when I logged back in the chest (and the adjacent one) had disappeared.

That doesn't explain all of the invisible chests we've seen, but it might be relevant to expose the issue. It makes me wonder if the problem is caused by Minecraft opening a data field for editing when a chest is opened which isn't written to and closed unless the player correctly closes the chest. Leaving that handle open causes the chest data to be inaccessible to the game, so it can't be rendered. Yesterday, having just completed a large storage system, approximately 50double chests with all their contents disappeared. The storage system is several floors high and the glitch has made about half of them disappear, the same chests on every floor. I can't access the chests or get out the thousands of blocks that were stored in them. I can't move into a block where there was a missing chest, and if I break the chest with an axe it appears as an item which I can pick up, but none of the items from inside the chest appear. I am on realms and can't reload from a backup as the other members will not allow it. Please help. I have lost days of work here.

Just downloaded BDS 1.16, copied my corrupted world, which I wasn't playing on anymore, to 1.16, renamed level.dat and started the world. I was curious to see, if the bug is fixed with 1.16.

I was very pleased to see all chests in the warehouse again! But.. unfortunately they're all empty.. all 110 chests :/ I even had problems with minecards disappearing over and over again after replacing them in the farms. They're finally there, farming stuff. Seems like the hopper are working as well, haven't checked them all yet.

Anyone having the same issue with the chests? They're visible again, but empty.

I can also confirm that the missing chests have indeed reappeared in my kids' world; sadly minus their contents, however.

I have problems with chests in my worlds. When I save but come back to the game the contents the that was in the chests are "gone" even though I closed the chest before leaving the game.
